Chapter 149: I’m rich... hahaha...rich

The door hanging in midair caught Julian’s eye; his lips parted to ask when he felt Eva grip his wrist as they vanished into the dungeon.

Julian blinked and found himself in the familiar dungeon surroundings. He nodded to himself, amazed that the door was actually the entrance to the dungeon.

"Don’t take on any monster yet, you just woke—" Eva was interrupted when Julian pinched her cheeks.

"Eva dear, there’s no need to worry, I’m perfectly healthy and ready to face any dungeon monster." Though speaking with a playful smile tugging at his lips, his voice carried a serious undertone.

He wanted real food, not porridge, for dinner and needed to prove his strength to Eva and improve his power level.

Ethan folded his arms and watched Julian with eyes full of unhidden mirth, sensing what was going through Julian’s mind, and he planned to watch him suffer without helping.

Eva, on the other hand, hesitated, eyeing Julian’s body with a scrutinizing gaze, as if trying to see if his health was really okay like he said.

She was silent for a moment, then replied in a firm tone, accepting no for an answer.

"Alright, you can fight monsters, but we’re going together." She looked into his eyes, warning him to accept without resistance.

Julian frowned slightly. He wanted to let loose in the dungeon, and he knew it was impossible if he stayed with her.

He shot Ethan a pleading look for help, only to be met with a "see-you-later" wave. Frustrated, he watched Ethan leave, shoulders shaking as if he were barely holding back laughter.

A resigned sigh escaped his lips as he turned to Eva and nodded in acceptance.

"Let’s go!" Eva cheered, pulling him further into the dungeon.

They cautiously traveled through the dungeon’s hallway network, emerging into a large clearing occupied by some dungeon monsters.

"Roar!!"

They let out a threatening growl at the intruder before springing to their feet and trending toward Eva and Julian with greedy, hungry gazes when they saw prey.

Eva eyed the monsters, which were covered in thick brown fur and shaped like birds with three legs and a tail sticking out oddly.

"Hideous." She muttered in a flat tone, her expression twisting with disgust. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Julian, standing beside her, nodded in agreement. This wasn’t his first encounter with this monster—they were firepower users, difficult to defeat because of their thick furs that absorb much of their opponents’ attack force, leaving them unscathed.

"It’s an A-ranked monster, be careful. They shoot fireballs and don’t attack their body; aim for their necks." Julian pointed to the pink side of its neck before dashing into the monster’s midst, his sword unsheathed and raised to strike the monster closest to him.

Eva glanced at Julian as she dodged an attack, noting that he could fight without struggle. She averted her gaze, no longer worried about his ability to handle the monsters.

They fought with precision and focus, sometimes defending against the monster’s fire attacks, other times striking back.

Loud fighting sounds echoed through the clearing, with the smell of burnt fur in the air.

Eva drove her sword through a monster’s neck, black blood spurting as balls of flame flew toward her.

With no time to dodge, Eva gripped her knife and yanked the dead monster forward to block the attack, sweat sliding down her face and her hand straining under its massive weight.

She quickly pulled out her weapon and rushed toward the monster that attacked her, taking it down before it could unleash its fire attacks.

Julian felt his body heat up and break into a slight sweat—this monster was just a warm-up for him.

He teleported into the crowd of monsters, his sword cutting through them as if he were dicing an onion—fast and with perfect aim.

Eva would have been blinded with envy if she had even glanced at Julian—his actions made her struggle with the monster look effortless.

Time passed with monsters’ corpses piling on the ground, and a wave of white energy particles left the monsters and drilled into them.

Julian felt a minimal surge of life energy and wished he could go to the lower level of the dungeon, where he could encounter S+ monsters and above.

He couldn’t improve with such little energy. "Should we go deeper or head back?!" he asked from the other end of the room.

He turned, his gaze falling on Eva, who was panting heavily while leaning against the wall, her body soaked with sweat.

"Let’s go back!" He added without hesitation, suppressing the idea of searching for stronger monsters.

He moved toward her as the monsters vanished in a flash of light. In its place, a bronze chest appeared in the middle of the room.

"Are you alright?" Eva asked in a concerned tone, her gaze searching his face and body for signs of injury or weakness, totally misunderstanding him and thinking he was too weak to continue.

Before Julian could respond, he watched helplessly as she transferred some energy into him.

"I’m fine. I’m asking if you still have the energy to hunt." Julian pulled her stray curls behind her ears and retied her loose hair up.

"Oh. We can still go in; I just need to regain my energy, and then we can leave." Eva started absorbing the energy around her as soon as she finished speaking.

And within moments, her body pulsed with endless energy, her aching muscles completely easing, and she stretched with a contented sigh, leaving her lips before her gaze fell on the chest in the middle.

"Ooh~ a dungeon drop. Quick, let’s see what we’ve earned!" Eva exclaimed, her eyes lighting up at the thought of opening a chest, feeling like she was opening a blind box.

Julian shook his head at her excitement, a smile tugging at his lips as he followed behind her.

’Lady luck bless me with moolah, cough, and useful weapons, not some scary stuff.’ Eva shivered as memories of the blackout flashed through her mind, and her excitement waned slightly.

"Erm, you should open it." Eva motioned for Julian to open the chest, then stepped back, her actions so obvious that Julian shot her a glance.

Eva gave him a sheepish smile, a guilty flush creeping up her face. Nothing bad will happen... right? she thought, staring at Julian’s hands, feeling nervous.

Julian had nothing else on his mind and calmly opened the chest without wasting a second.

A bright, golden flash lit up briefly; Eva squinted to see the contents, her hand already moving to Julian’s wrist to pull him back if something emerged from the chest.

Once she got a clearer look, her eyes widened in surprise (☉。☉)! Then she burst into giggles and nudged Julian aside with her hip.

Julian almost lost his balance when Eva suddenly pushed him. Turning around, he saw her giggling, with her face pressed against the chest full of gold coins, gems, and herbs, a dreamy expression spreading across her face.

’Sigh... the chest matters more than me? I’ve officially lost favor.’ Julian glared at it, jealousy plain on his face. He’d been soaking up his wife’s affection, and now a pile of gold had to ruin it.

"I’m rich... hahaha...rich." Eva kept muttering to herself, enjoying the cold feel of coins on her chest as she rubbed her face against them.

Time passed, but Eva showed no intention of moving from her spot.

Umm... Eva, we need to go," Julian called out, but there was no response from Eva; she was lost in her dreamy state, and the urge to fight more monsters had faded from her mind.

"We can get more chest if we hunt more," Julian tempted her after seeing that his words were no use.
