Chapter 150: Ow! Dear~ have mercy

Eva paused briefly, but the gleaming glow and cold sensation of the coins were too tempting to let go of even for a second.

Julian noticed she wouldn’t budge him and pulled her hair back with a helpless smile, tugging at his lips. He moved, trying to drag her away from the chest.

"No! my moolah!" Eva cried with such anguish as if she were mourning a loved one. She flailed around, struggling in his embrace.

"It’s not like you’ll be using it anytime soon. Remember, there’s nothing to buy here — no trading system. It’s just a pile of shining stone," Julian explained, quickly placing the chest into his space ring with his free hand.

"But I would be able to enjoy the feeling of having a chest full of money, woo hoo༼;´༎ຶ ۝ ༎ຶ༽. Why did you have to crush my dreams by showing me reality?" Eva was saddened and angry at being reminded of reality. She watched her chest vanish into Julian’s ring, and her struggle stopped.

"Hmph. Don’t talk to me,’’ Eva snapped, pouting as she turned her face away, unwilling to look at him. Julian itched to pinch her puffed cheeks; he dared not, knowing that if he tried, Eva might really get furious.

"Eva dear... don’t ignore your weak, cough... husband. I promise I’ll get more chest for you, as much as you want." Julian nuzzled her neck, pleading in a weak voice, like he was suffering from the aftereffects of being bedridden.

Eva remembered he had just woken up and was about to turn to him when flashes of him facing those monsters, like it was a piece of cake, flashed through her mind, and a sarcastic laugh burst from her lips.

"Really, you’re suddenly weak, when you were cutting down those monsters like spring onions, why didn’t you feel weak then? Hmph, trying to deceive me. Tch." Eva clicked her tongue, pinching his side in annoyance.

"Ow! Dear~ have mercy," Julain pleaded exaggeratedly, his shoulders trembling from the suppressed laughter threatening to break free.

No matter how hard she tried to look angry, she appeared cute instead, with her short legs bouncing as he held her up and her hair falling loose to frame her puffed cheeks—Zero threats.

"Keep deceiving yourself... like my pinch even hurt your tough skin. Put me down... let’s continue the hunt, but remember to give me my chest back. I might give this piece as your share."

Eva demonstrated by pinching her thumb and index finger together.

"Stingy," Julian muttered with a soft chuckle when he saw the tiny gap between her fingers—if he hadn’t fought alongside her, he wouldn’t have even seen the shadow of the chest.

Eva felt her feet touch the ground, and she mockingly kicked his legs to vent her frustration.

"Remember your promise to give me more chest. Let’s go!" Eva exclaimed as she charged forward, Julian trailing behind her.

Time passed quickly as they faced the dungeon monsters, their weapons and clothes covered in blood, but they weren’t fortunate enough to get a chest item drop; instead, they only received furs and bones from the monsters, which were useful for forging weapons and the like.

They only left when they were forced out of the dungeon. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Eva lay down on the sand, which cooled as the sky darkened.

"Ethan, how was your hunt?! Got any chest you could give your lovely wife?" Eva asked as soon as she saw him.

Her eyes sparkled with hope, feeling her luck had been drained after getting that chest.

"It wasn’t my fault we didn’t get any more chest... It’s those monsters’ fault. Eva dear, stop ignoring me~" Julian poked her cheeks as he lay beside her, his tone sickly sweet that Eva broke out in goosebumps.

"Ahh! Stop talking, or I’ll punch you... see, my skin’s breaking out in goosebumps!"

Eva rolled away quickly, her body covered in dust and sand particles as she raised her arm to show him proof.

Ethan chuckled softly at her action and sat down behind her. "How is he going to see your arm from here? Oh—he teleported."

His tone remained light, not surprised at all as he continued.

"I didn’t bring back any chest, but I brought some herbs and soft, thick furs. We don’t know when the temperature might drop; we’ll need them to stay warm. Let’s leave here in two days," Ethan added, changing his mind—feeling a week was too long, and that two days would give Julian time to recover to his peak health.

And Eva could control her new powers, though not proficiently; it was good enough. They needed to tour the area and find a safe place to begin construction in preparation for the Oasis City people.

"Yay(~‾▿‾)~" Eva wiggled happily on the sand. Even though she was covered in dust and sand, her face stayed clean—she made sure it didn’t touch the ground. ’I need to maintain this beauty at all times.’

"Let’s head back. Hmm, I forgot to ask. How many days are left before your space sends everyone out?" Ethan asked, checking if the day conflicted with the day they would leave.

Eva paused, counting her fingers with a serious expression. "Umm, I think it’s in three days, they just went in yesterday." A frown crept across her face when she thought of those people.

"We might not leave this desert in a day’s journey... anyway, they will walk and suffer the dust and heat," Julian added from the side, rising to his feet as he dusted his clothes.

A wicked grin spread across Eva’s lips when she envisioned his words coming true—she reached out her hand for someone to help her up.

"Hmm, then the day stays the same," Ethan muttered and moved to help her up, but Julian was quicker.

He pulled his hand back and gave the supposed weak Julian a look.

Julian exaggerated, holding his chest and frowning as if he were about to faint, making sure Eva didn’t see his action—or flavorless food awaited him, not that it mattered anyway.

Because at dinner time, Julian looked at the soup in front of him and the mashed potatoes on the other plate, and doubted his life.

"Um, I... didn’t you see how I handled those monsters at the dungeon? Why am I still eating this?" Julian asked, with a lost look, confused as he glanced at Eva for answers.

"Pffftt...hahaha." Ethan and Aaron burst out laughing, thankful they hadn’t started eating, or they might choke on how funny Julian’s expression looked.

Eva shot them a look, wondering what was so funny, before turning to the crestfallen Julian.

"Your strength and your stomach digestion are two different matters. You just woke up today after weeks of lying in bed, and you expect to eat solid food... really?"

Eva stared at him like he was a child who didn’t know what was good for him.

Though she didn’t remember anything, those books she read, no matter how brain-dead and full of plot holes, still made a bit of sense.

His body would rebel, causing nausea, stomach pain, or worse. He was going to eat like this for at least a week or more, and by then, his digestion would be back to normal.

"Please, just—" Julian’s plea was cut off before he could finish.

"Absolutely not. Eat your food," Eva refused firmly, picking up her spoon to signal the end of the discussion.

Ethan patted Julian on the shoulder to console him; if his eyes weren’t shining with laughter, Julian would have been touched.

Aaron’s mood brightened, feeling refreshed when he saw one of his sister’s husbands suffer.

They settled into a peaceful silence as they ate. Julian poked at his food but ate obediently when Eva frowned.

Two days passed in a flash. Ethan and the others were dressed tightly, their faces covered with makeshift masks to keep dust and sand from getting into their eyes.

"Let’s move out!" Ethan said, and they mounted their beasts, breaking into a run across the sands.
