Chapter 211: Chapter 211: I will try to persuade him

Florence Fuller arrived in Ireland the day before Siya’s wedding. Her schedule was tight; after attending the wedding, she had to fly to the United States for a business trip.

The wedding was not large, nor were there many people. Florence Fuller met Oliver, an investor she worked with at SN Capital in France. They chatted briefly, and then the wedding began.

They stood together to witness the ceremony, and after the wedding, it was time for the party.

Unfortunately, Florence didn’t have much time to stay. She handed her wedding gift to Siya, returned to the hotel to change clothes, and then left with Lily Hart to catch the flight.

Coming out from the hotel corridor, Florence took a few steps, her heart suddenly pounding rapidly.

The man walking towards her was all too familiar; his deep-set eyes, handsome face, and gentle yet aloof aura were unmistakable. A man and a woman were following him, talking about something as they walked.

Then he looked up and saw Florence Fuller.

Florence glanced at him and quickly looked away, kept walking without stopping, and as they gradually approached each other, they passed by, drifting farther apart.

Ethan Harper paused, turned to look at that slender back, bitterness in his heart.

It has been a long time since they met; she seemed thinner as if she wasn’t in great health, and her face appeared smaller.

Ethan stood there in a daze, and the people beside him, seeing him suddenly stop and become absent-minded, called out, "Sir? Sir?"

That figure gradually disappeared from view. Ethan could no longer restrain himself and strode after her.

As he approached the steps, he caught a glimpse of Florence getting into a car, the door closing, and the vehicle driving away.

"Sir, is something wrong?" the person next to him asked.

Watching the car disappear, Ethan said nothing and turned to walk back.

His flight delay caused him to arrive late, and while the wedding ceremony was over, the party had just begun at the wedding venue. His appearance drew attention.

Nevertheless, everyone knew the groom was also from the Harper Family, so his arrival was not surprising, and some quickly took this opportunity to approach him for a toast.

"I only recently heard that Mr. Harper got married some time ago. Congratulations, congratulations!"

Ethan didn’t take the wine. He politely thanked the well-wishers for their blessings.

"Is Mr. Harper not planning to hold a wedding?"

Ethan smiled, "There will be an opportunity to have one in the future."

"I heard someone say that Mrs. Harper is extraordinarily beautiful, a perfect match for you. If there’s a chance, we must attend the wedding to see such a fine couple." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"Thank you," Ethan replied. After a pause, he added, "It’s just that due to work commitments, we’re not together now. There won’t be a wedding for a few years, but if the opportunity arises, you will be invited."

Someone asked in confusion, "Isn’t Mrs. Harper in France?"

"Yes, her work focus is not in France, but I don’t want to interfere; as long as she’s happy, that’s all that matters."

Those present envied Mrs. Harper greatly.

Young, wealthy, influential, and still so caring and indulgent to her husband—how could the disappointed noble ladies not be even more disheartened?

Nathaniel Harper approached, and upon seeing the groom arrive, those in conversation made way, leaving space for the two of them.

"Sorry for being late due to the flight delay," Ethan said.

"It’s fine," Nathaniel thought for a moment, "Missing my wedding isn’t what’s regrettable; it’s mainly that... you didn’t see her."

"I ran into her at the hotel entrance just now," Ethan replied.

Nathaniel considered, "I didn’t know Siya would invite her. Had I known, I would have told you earlier, but it seemed she was in a hurry and didn’t have extra time to stay."

Ethan said nothing, his mind filled only with that slender figure.

"You go greet the guests; I’ll stay here alone for a while," Ethan said.

Nathaniel nodded.

——

It was a week after Florence Fuller returned to SJ City from the United States. Upon returning to the office, she learned that Luke Gardiner had come around frequently lately, bringing many gifts, which she instructed others to handle and not to allow Luke up again.

To Luke Gardiner’s assistant’s calls, she gave a clear answer: "Either we’ll meet for the divorce or see each other in divorce court."

But Luke Gardiner’s attitude was firm from start to finish, unwilling to divorce.

A couple of days later, Florence received a call from Old Mr. Gardiner.

Old Mr. Gardiner had returned from the farm and asked if she’d like to have dinner at the old house that night.

Florence declined.

Old Mr. Gardiner sighed over the phone, "I know you’re already in a divorce lawsuit with Luke these past months. I didn’t expect Luke to be so stubborn, unwilling to divorce. Florence, I’ll try talking to him again."

Florence gripped her phone tightly and, after a while, replied, "Thank you."

The news of Florence and Luke Gardiner’s marital discord gradually spread, but within two hours of spreading, it vanished completely online.

After having dinner with a business partner that evening, Florence returned home. She had a bit to drink, and Lily Hart accompanied her upstairs. Just as they entered the lobby, that familiar voice confronted them.

"Mr., Mr. Gardiner!"

Florence almost felt her scalp tighten. Now that she’d been drinking, recalling their encounter that happened post-drinking, she was already somewhat angered, not looking at the person approaching: "Get lost!"

This fierce "get lost" startled Lily Hart; she hadn’t expected her boss to be so blunt with Mr. Gardiner now.

"Florence," Luke Gardiner tried to reach out but pulled back, "Are you really so unscrupulous just to get a divorce?"

"That’s right," Florence sneered. "It’s just the truth."

"Stop doing this," he said in a low voice. "I don’t want a divorce; I want to win you back. No matter how much I explain to you, you won’t agree; just try—"

"Get lost!" Florence frowned at him, "Luke Gardiner, I can’t even maintain this paper-thin marriage with you anymore. Is agreeing to a divorce so hard, or do you just enjoy playing these games?"

"What games?" Luke shook his head, afraid Florence might have suspicions of him without cause, and quickly said, "I’m sincere with you; you just don’t believe me, not giving me a chance."

"Why should I give you a chance? On what basis?" Florence sneered, "Fine, continue like this. If you won’t divorce, it won’t stop me from being with other men."

Florence gave Luke a chilly glance, bypassing him as she left.

Lily Hart hurried to keep up.

Luke stood frozen in place.

A couple of days later, the news of Florence Fuller allegedly being with a male star reached Luke Gardiner.

That male star was a newly signed artist under the Gardiner Group’s film company. Florence being with him meant he directly received all sorts of top-notch resources.

Luke Gardiner was exasperated, and it was clear Florence’s actions were deliberate.

The rumor, hidden by him, about marital discord, was now confirmed too.
