Chapter 290: Family of five

"Your dad is right—you’re already full. Drinking too much might upset your little tummy," Elena said gently, holding his tiny hands.

"You’ll listen to Mommy, right, baby?"

The baby whimpered softly, but the moment he heard his mother’s soothing voice, he slowly calmed down and looked at her with wide, curious eyes.

That innocent gaze melted Elena’s heart instantly.

Unable to resist, she showered his chubby face with gentle kisses, smooching him again and again until the baby let out happy, contented little sounds.

"Mommy hasn’t been with you since you were born," Elena whispered tenderly, "but now that I’m here, I’ll make sure you’re well fed and grow up healthy and strong."

Watching the scene, Ethan couldn’t help but feel a slight twinge of jealousy.

His wife’s attention had been completely stolen by their son.

Just one baby was already enough to make her forget he was even there—what would happen once the other two joined in?

It would be disastrous... yet deep down, Ethan felt nothing but happiness that his small family was finally complete.

He wanted to interrupt them as there was so much he wanted to say to Elena, so many questions about how she was feeling.

But in the end, he held them back, choosing instead to let her savor these precious moments with their babies first.

There would be time to talk later.

"Finn and Max are still sleeping. They’ll probably wake up anytime now," Ethan said softly. "And this little one—Leo—was supposed to be asleep by now, but I think he’s far too excited to see you."

He then told Elena about their peculiar habits. The two younger babies always slept longer, while Leo was usually the first to wake up.

Because of that, Ethan would care for the eldest first before tending to the other two.

He couldn’t help but feel that his eldest was more understanding, which made things easier for him and kept him from feeling overwhelmed.

After that, he explained their daily routine: changing diapers, taking them on small strolls, letting them bask under the space’s improvised sunlight, then leaving the space to bring them to see her while feeding them their milk.

Elena couldn’t help but chuckle as she listened.

A trace of regret flickered in her heart for missing all those moments, but she quickly brushed it aside.

Now that she was awake, they could finally experience everything together.

"You named the babies?" she asked.

Ethan shook his head. "No, those are just nicknames. Grandpa came up with them. As for their real names, I think it’d be better if we chose them together."

She smiled softly. "So the eldest is Leo, the second is Finn, and the youngest is Max?"

"Mm," Ethan nodded thoughtfully. "We should give them proper names that match their nicknames."

"Alright," Elena said with a gentle smile. "We can think about that later. For now, I want to see the second and the youngest."

"They will be thrilled to see you, should I fetch them?" Ethan asked.

"No, I can summon them here," Elena replied eagerly. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Before doing so, she carefully placed Leo on the bed, making sure he was lying comfortably.

Moments later, the two younger brothers appeared beside him, still sleeping peacefully—completely unaware that their mother had finally awakened.

"They look so identical. Should we do something to tell them apart?" Elena asked softly as she caressed Finn and Max’s little faces.

The two babies stirred instinctively, their lips curling into faint smiles in their sleep as they sensed a familiar presence.

"There’s no need," Ethan replied calmly. "They may look the same, but you’ll soon notice their differences."

"Oh?" Elena looked at him, unconvinced. "Do they have habits that set them apart?"

Ethan laughed, sat down behind her, and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her gently into his embrace.

"Once they wake up, you’ll find out soon enough."

"Come on, just tell me," she pressed coyly.

"Find out for yourself, wife," he said teasingly. "Look—Finn’s starting to wake up."

Distracted by Finn’s tiny stretches and sleepy movements, Elena’s attention shifted completely to the baby, making her forget about Ethan, who was quietly showering kisses along her back.

Her eyes then glowed with anticipation as she watched their second son’s adorable antics, finally waking up.

And the moment his eyes opened, Elena finally understood how the babies were set apart.

It was their eyes.

The eldest had inherited Ethan’s eyes, while Finn shared the same eye color as hers.

The difference was subtle, yet unmistakable—truly fascinating.

"Hello, son. Good morning," Elena said softly, cradling him with care. "Do you remember Mommy?"

Just like his older brother, Finn reacted the moment he heard her voice. His eyes lit up with joy, and he let out a happy little sound in eager response.

Elena’s heart melted. She leaned in and planted a big smooch on his smooth cheek, completely enchanted by his adorable expression.

"He has my eyes," she said in wonder. "And the eldest has yours. What about our sleeping prince, Max?"

"Hmmm. Well, it’ll amaze you even more," Ethan replied with a mysterious smile as he stood up and picked up the eldest, who had been watching everything with a slight frown.

"Wife, let’s feed Finn first," Ethan said. "Use the bottle for now, not breastmilk. Trust me— Leo won’t agree otherwise."

Elena nodded. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to breastfeed—she just didn’t feel fully clean yet.

More importantly, she wanted to treat all three of their sons equally.

"Finn, are you hungry?" she asked gently. "Let Mommy feed you, okay?"

Finn soon latched onto the bottle eagerly, drinking with enthusiasm while staring at her as if afraid she might disappear again.

The sight tugged at Elena’s heart.

As Finn drank, Ethan told her about the first time the babies cried from hunger, how panicked he had been, and how they eventually figured out a suitable formula.

He also mentioned their unusual abilities, and suggested discussing it later—since the babies sometimes seemed to use them unconsciously.

"Luckily, Mimi gave us a hint," Ethan said. "Otherwise, it would’ve taken us much longer to figure out what they needed."

Elena felt a stab of regret. She should have been the one breastfeeding them. But what was done was done—they could only move forward.

When the third bottle was emptied, Elena froze in disbelief. She had thought Ethan was exaggerating about their appetite.

’They really drink this much...’ she murmured.

"Take it slow," she said gently, wiping the milk from Finn’s cheeks. "Mommy will make sure you have enough milk, okay?"

She couldn’t resist and kissed his cheeks again, completely unable to stop herself.

"Ethan," Elena called softly, glancing at the eldest. "Give him to me—I want to lull Leo to sleep."

Finn was still wide awake and clearly not ready to sleep, while Leo had already been awake for over an hour.

It’s time for her eldest to rest.

Hearing his wife, Ethan nodded, and they exchanged babies smoothly. Finn didn’t cry—in fact, he smiled, clearly fond of his father as well.

With Leo in her arms, Elena hummed a soft, soothing tune, gently rocking him.

"Sleep well, Leo," she whispered.

After a few minutes, his breathing evened out, and he finally fell asleep in his mother’s embrace.

Elena then kissed his forehead tenderly before laying him beside the youngest, Max.

"Why isn’t Max awake yet? It’s almost six."

Ethan sighed helplessly. "That one’s just lazy. If he’s really hungry, he’ll wake up at the same time as Finn—but most of the time, Grandpa and I have to wake him up to feed him. He loves sleeping so much that we have to keep a close eye on him."
