Chapter 166: Engagement Gift
"Abby, are you waiting for something?" Sawyer asked.
When his warm hands touched her cheek, Abigail felt perplexed. Looking into his eyes, she shook her head in response.
"No!" she said softly.
"Alright, let me show you what my people have done in this building. I hope you’re pleased with their renovation," Sawyer said as he gently took her hand and led her inside.
Without saying a word, she followed him, with Brody and Vincent trailing behind.
As she entered the main entrance and saw the high ceiling adorned with a beautiful chandelier, she was impressed by the renovations. The team had perfectly executed her design, and surprisingly, they had completed it in just two months.
Later, they arrived at the fourth floor. The whole floor was designed as a lounge area. Like the other floors, the furniture on this floor was nearly identical to what she had drawn.
Unable to contain her disbelief, Abigail stopped and turned to face Sawyer, causing him to halt. He looked at her with concern.
"Sawyer, are you really giving this entire building to me?" she asked, her tone reflecting incredulity.
Sawyer chuckled at her surprised tone and nodded. "Yes, of course. This building is for you."
Still noticing her frown, something crossed Sawyer’s mind.
"Abby, is this office building too small for you? I have another one you can choose from..." His tone became panicked when he realized she didn’t like the gift.
Hurriedly, Abigail shook her head. "No, Sawyer. This is perfect for my start-up company. But I think this gift is too expensive for me to accept. I feel like I don’t deserve it; you gave it to me..."
She felt scared to accept such an extravagant gift from someone, mainly since this building was located on costly Oracle Street; she could only imagine how much it was worth.
"Why would you think you don’t deserve it?" Sawyer immediately responded, noting her worried expression and fearing she would refuse the gift.
"Abby, you will be my wife in a few days. You deserve this gift from me, your soon-to-be husband..." he said, smiling warmly to ease her worries.
Abigail clenched her hands tightly. She smiled at him and opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out.
Sawyer reached for her hand and held it gently, offering her the strength to stop worrying.
"You know we’re going to register our marriage the day after tomorrow, right?" he asked, his soft voice melting Abigail’s heart. She nodded. "Prepare yourself, my love Abigail Lewis, because from now on, you’ll receive many gifts from me."
She smiled back at him, though her smile was not bright and warm like a spring breeze; it was forced. She felt a mix of emotions—a thrill mixed with worry.
Abigail felt fear in her heart. She was scared she would fail to marry again, just as she had with Ryland, who had cheated on her.
"Abby, I deliberately did not ask my team to decorate all the floors because I want you to do it yourself, according to your preferences. I only asked them to focus on the 4th floor for your office and the 5th floor as your resting area..."
Sawyer’s voice seemed to pull her back from her thoughts. When he saw her looking at him again, he continued, "I hope you’re okay with that..."
"Thank you for considering that. However, you don’t need to worry because I always create designs based on client references. I was confused when you asked me to create a design inspired by my favorite style at that time, which you mentioned was for a five-story office building."
"Yes, I wanted it to reflect your vision for your office. I hoped you would draw something you liked," he admitted, feeling guilty for not being completely honest with her. He had no other choice because this building was a gift for her.
"Yes, of course, I love it. I designed this building according to my taste, and your team followed my vision perfectly. They brought to life exactly what I imagined. I really like it." She sincerely expressed her feelings, smiling at him. "Thank you so much, Sawyer..."
Abigail could no longer avoid the reality of what Sawyer was offering her. He was right; they would be registering their marriage in two days. The thought of becoming husband and wife sent butterflies dancing in her stomach.
"Alright, let’s see your office," Sawyer said, still holding her hand as he led her to one of the doors. "Remember, I asked you to design it according to your taste, right?"
"Hmm, at that time, I even suspected you wanted to create an office for me..." Abigail laughed as she recalled that moment.
"Hahaha, you were right. I almost confessed because, you guessed it!" He halted in front of the oak door and glanced over at her. "Are you ready to see it?"
She nodded, feeling her heart tighten with anticipation as she wondered about the finished design of her office.
When the door finally opened, Abigail gasped in surprise. Before her was a spacious room with a large window overlooking the city and Oracle Street. In the center of the room stood a sizable wooden desk. Several wooden shelves lined the walls behind the desk, filled with books, folders, and other decorative items.
Abigail was shocked to see the gold frame holding a picture of Sawyer and her on the day he proposed.
"Y-You asked them to take our picture?" Abigail couldn’t believe it. He had secretly arranged for someone to capture that moment. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"Hmm, of course, I asked them. That time was our special moment," Sawyer explained, a happy smile appearing on his face as he noticed her touched and joyful expression. "You can see the rest of the pictures in the album over there." He pointed to a folder near their picture.
"Thank you, Sawyer! That day, I felt sad because we had no memories of when you proposed."
Sawyer said nothing in response but gestured for her to continue exploring the room.
Abigail refocused and took in her office. The walls were painted light gray and decorated with artistic paintings. A soft, light brown carpet covered the floor, giving the space a luxurious feel.
A sofa set was placed against one wall, facing a television screen on the opposite side. There was also a coffee table where architecture magazines were neatly arranged, alongside a fresh Camellia flower in various colors.
Abigail stopped by the glass wall, gazing at the street below before glancing at Sawyer.
"Your team made my design exactly as I pictured it. And they have successfully brought my designs to life. Excellent production of my design... I love it!" She couldn’t stop praising him and his team.
Sawyer stood beside her, following her line of sight before he replied.
"I’m glad you like it. I’m here almost daily to ensure my construction team builds this room according to your design to create a comfortable and stylish workspace for you."
"Well, I can tell you, it looks great and comfortable," Abigail responded.
Later, she walked to the wooden desk in the center of the room and ran her fingers along its smooth, polished surface. "I can’t wait to start working here..."
Her mind began planning to contact Milan as her first employee.
"I’m looking forward to you starting work here, Abby. However, you need to register your company first, and I have already asked my lawyer to handle that. Once the paperwork is ready, you just need to sign it, and this office will be all set to run."
Abigail paused and turned to look at him. Her eyes felt warm, and she was grateful for what he did for her.
"I don’t know how to express my gratitude to you, Sawyer. You do so many wonderful things for me," she said with a smile, gazing into his eyes. Her heartfelt warmth. She took a deep breath several times and added, "It makes me feel like you might be pampering me a bit too much."
Sawyer placed his hand on her waist and pulled her closer. Their bodies touched, causing her to flinch slightly, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she looked up to meet his gentle gaze and rested her head against his sturdy chest.
"You don’t have to worry about anything. All you need to do is love me and stay by my side forever..." Sawyer’s soft voice floated above her, making her smile in gratitude for meeting someone like him who would be in her life and future.
"I promise I will stay by your side forever. Even if you get bored with me, I will stick to you like glue. Don’t ever regret it later, Mr. Jones!"
"I will never regret it, Mrs. Jones!" Sawyer firmly answered her, which made her blush.
They embraced each other for a moment before Sawyer gently loosened his hold.
"Come with me. Let me show you the fifth floor," he said, walking toward the door near the bookshelf.
"The fifth floor?" Abigail suddenly remembered the design she had created. Her face flushed at the thought of what was up there.
"Mhmm, yes, it is, dear. That floor will be our love nest..." he said playfully as he opened the door.
