[BL] Mr. Romano Contracted Husband-Chapter 65: There Is No Other Option
Two hours had passed since they arrived at the police station to bring Luciana in. The little girl was now fast asleep in Julian’s lap, exhausted and cold.
The police had already moved to arrest her parents, but unfortunately, they had already fled. Their house was empty, proving that they truly intended to abandon their own daughter.
Arcane took off the jacket he was wearing and used it as a blanket for Luciana. He gently stroked the girl’s head, unable to understand why any parent could do such a thing.
But at that moment, it wasn’t just Luciana who looked sad, Julian felt the same way. He pulled the man closer and stroked his head.
"I know you’re very worried about her. But you also have to learn that we can’t always get everything we want. There are times when we have to let go of something, like we’re letting go of Luciana." He whispered in his ear, trying to make Julian understand that they couldn’t just take Luciana home, no matter how sad her life was right now.
However, he would try to talk to the police. Maybe they could apply for the right to become her new guardians.
"You promise? But what makes you so sure we can become her new guardians?" Julian asked worriedly.
Arcane explained that there was no guarantee that they would win or become Luciana’s guardians. But there was no harm in trying if the police thought they were capable and suitable to be her foster parents.
"For now, we should go home. Let’s just hope for good news for her and for both of us. How about it?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
After being persuaded like that, Julian finally relented and let go of Luciana. He wiped his own tears, feeling so heavy handing over the little body to the police.
"Please take good care of her. If anything happens, contact us immediately. I will definitely come to accompany her," he said with a trembling voice, holding back his tears as he slowly handed Juliana to one of the police officers so she wouldn’t wake up.
"Don’t worry, she will be safe with us. We will take good care of her, make sure she is okay. And indeed, if anything happens, we will contact you immediately," said the police officer, then took Luciana to another room to lay her down.
Finally, the two of them left the police station at 00:30 a.m. During the walk home, Arcane kept holding Julian’s hand because his husband was still feeling so sad. Occasionally, he kissed his temples.
Slowly, Julian began to feel better until they finally arrived home. He still couldn’t get Luciana out of his mind, but he could only wait and hope for a miracle to happen.
"Come here," called Arcane, who was already lying on the bed with his arms open.
Julian climbed onto the bed and crawled toward him, hugging his husband with mixed feelings, but slowly he became calmer. Arcane’s warm embrace and the beating of his heart in his ear were like a sedative for him.
"I know you’re still very worried about him. Let’s just hope that a Christmas miracle really happens and maybe something will change his life and ours too," Arcane whispered in his ear as he gently stroked his head.
"What if we don’t get custody? What if we’re deemed unfit because..."
The red haired man understood what Julian meant. Even though it was common for male couples to be together, some people still considered same sex couples to be incompetent to raise a child.
They worried that the child would not receive love from both a father and a mother. But many were also convinced that it would not make any difference, because a person’s love was not that different. Whether male or female, the love for a child would surely be immense.
That night, they wanted to try to rest, to relax after feeling the cold air outside. While feeling each other’s warmth, they fell asleep soundly.
A few days later, they still hadn’t heard anything about Luciana. Even so, Arcane assured them that he would be fine in the right hands.
"I’m going to buy some cakes for New Year’s Eve. Do you want to come with me?" he asked.
"Yes, I want to come." Julian nodded his head, wanting to get some fresh air outside rather than continue thinking about this problem.
Arcane took his hand and they went to a bakery not far from their house. At the bakery, there were many cakes for sale. Wanting to cheer him up, Arcane let Julian choose the cake he wanted.
Feeling happy about this, he looked at the cakes displayed in the window.
"All the cakes here look delicious. I’m confused about which one to choose," he said while looking at the cakes.
While choosing the cake he wanted, Arcane’s cell phone rang because someone was calling him.
"I have to answer the phone first. You choose the cake you want first," he said and walked out of the bakery.
While walking around looking at the cakes on display, Julian accidentally bumped into a man who was also choosing a cake.
BUMP!
"I-I’m sorry, are you okay?" the man asked, immediately apologizing to him.
"It’s okay, I’m fine—Wait... Kyle?" Julian recognized the man, who turned out to be Kyle, the language teacher who taught at the same school as Arcane.
Kyle was also surprised to find that it was Julian who had bumped into him. He hadn’t expected to meet the man here.
"Mr. Julian, I didn’t expect to see you here. Are you also choosing a cake for New Year’s Eve?" he asked politely with his usual friendly smile.
"Yes. I’m choosing a cake for tonight." He nodded his head in confirmation.
At the same time, Kyle’s eyes seemed to be searching around them, looking for someone. Julian, who noticed this, immediately thought, could he be looking for Arcane?
"Arcane is in front of the store because someone called him," he said.
That reflexively made the language teacher’s face flush red, revealing that he was indeed looking for that man. Kyle’s reaction was enough to make Julian feel surprised and suspicious that the man liked his husband.
’Why did he react like someone caught red handed looking for their crush?’
