Chapter 166: Twisting Truth 2

"What does the Lin Clan have to do with the demons?"

"I think they were the target."

"Hm???" Confusion shrouded Achara.

"And there is this stuff about Dragon Core."

Achara’s frown deepened.

"You are making no sense," she said.

"The Lin Clan was hunting a flood dragon. One night, when we were about to rest, the dragon chased by the Lin Clan intruded on our camp. We fought fiercely and slayed it..."

Oliver went in-depth about the situation and explained how the dragon was hunted...and most importantly, why.

He also spoke about the spying feeling he felt during the time.

He also vaguely mentioned there was a mind controller among the people spying on them. And how he used his ability to make them eat the dragon’s core.

Their intent was most likely to destroy the dragon core. Which means stopping Lin Yue’s sister from being healed.

"That proves nothing. It could have been enemies of the Lin Clan, keeping an eye on them." Achara said.

"Initially, I thought that, too. I didn’t want to be involved with them, so I didn’t mention their presence to the Lin Clan members I met." Oliver lied through his teeth.

He was clearly using this opportunity to portray himself as a kind gentleman who helped the Lin Clan when they were at their wits.

He also made sure to mention that he was unwillingly dragged into the mess.

"I would have ignored the feeling of being spied on if not for what happened later."

"What happened?"

"The feeling of being spied on returned. I am pretty sure it was the demons because, just after I sensed it, monsters flooded the crab island. They came to kill me."

"Fortunately, I was strong enough to survive against the onslaught of A and B-ranked monsters. In the process, I killed a few too. That’s when the S-ranked demon appeared."

"Luckily, I sent Ajay away with my car, sensing the oddness of the situation. That’s why he could survive."

Oliver explained.

"Their goal was eliminating me because I sensed them..." The confidence in Oliver’s voice waned.

It was deliberate.

He wanted Achara to think he was not sure about this part.

"Anyway, I am pretty sure they want me dead."

"They want the young miss of the Lin Clan to die too."

"But I still don’t know for sure why."

"I could understand why I was targeted. After all, I am a promising talent from a human side. I will most likely grow up to be someone who threatens the demons." Oliver chewed on the meat and drank some water.

His dishevelled hair and untidy clothes made him look like a caveman rather than a promising talent.

"But why did they target somebody like Lin Hua?" He asked, frustrated.

He was acting frustrated.

"That’s when this thought crossed my mind."

Oliver took a long pause.

Achara looked at him closely.

’What?’

She wanted Oliver to continue with the explanation.

Oliver saw this and parted his lips.

"What if the demons want to kill us for not what we are but what we could be?"

"A seer?"

Achara widened her eyes.

Seers are individuals who can see the future. They were not considered strong superhumans because their combat abilities were limited.

Still, the power to see the future in itself was a valuable asset.

Seers were one of the rarest kinds of superhumans. Achara instantly grasped the idea Oliver was proposing.

"You think they have a seer or someone with similar ability among the demons?"

"Most likely." Oliver nodded.

He had no clue if that was true or not. But he had every reason to doubt.

Demons...

Their actions were too precise.

Without future knowledge, they couldn’t have done that.

It was the conclusion Oliver came to after many nights of thinking.

"That’s why I said people are being targeted. Not just the ones that stand in the way of demons, it includes the ones that might stand in their way in the future too."

"The plans of the demons run deeper than we can imagine."

Oliver muttered and looked at Achara.

Achara wore a frown as she looked at Oliver.

"This is bad..." Achara muttered and looked at Oliver.

"If what you are saying is true, the feeling of being spied on is someone trying to perform divination or similar abilities on you." She added.

"I thought so." Oliver nodded. "That’s why I couldn’t grasp their exact position. That would also explain why they disappear instantly from my view."

The ability to see the future was a nonsensical ability.

It worked in mysterious ways that cannot be explained.

Oliver had some understanding of it.

’Oracles, seers, soothsayers, diviners, prophets... There are many kinds of troublesome people. Did any of them see my future?’ Oliver wondered.

’If they had, they wouldn’t make the mistake of trying to kill me, right?’

’And did they see the current future in which I made the changes or the future in which I didn’t?’

Oliver had no way to know for sure.

There was nothing he could do about them.

"Anyways, I understand why you are telling me this. You want me to tighten the security protecting your family, right?"

’Did I?’ Oliver didn’t think that part, still nodded.

"You also want me to look into this, right?"

"Of course." He nodded again. "I would have to trouble you this time."

"The only way to find a seer is with another seer. I hope you can deal with this." Oliver added.

Achara finished the meal and wiped her face as the conversation came to an end.

Oliver was satisfied with what he achieved. He too wiped his face and stood up.

It was time to leave.

"By the way, what happened to Ajay and my Phantom Nemesis?"

"I sent them to Dragon City," Achara said.

Together, they walked to the Skylance.

Suddenly, she turned to Oliver and asked, "Did you really kill an A rank monster?"

"Yes, I ripped many a new one," Oliver answered smugly.

Without any explanation, he climbed onto the Skylance.
