Blood Nemesis-Chapter 170: Making new enemies
Chapter 170: Making new enemies
"Mutiny?" The Thunder Emperor scoffed. "You think you can say and do anything you want because you have the support of the centre." He leaned back on his chair.
"When did you stoop so low?" He gave a cursory glance at Park Sanghyun and took the contract.
"This contract here represents hope of securing our future. And you want to stop that."
"Park Sanghyun, do you even know what this is?"
A hint of anger appeared in his voice.
"On a whim, you decided to oppose an innovative technology that can save many lives. I don’t think you are fit to be a general anymore."
Thunder Emperor slammed the thick stack of paper onto the table.
It slid forward and stopped near Park Sanghyun.
The last few words from the Thunder Emperor made him furious. Without even glancing at the contract, he too slammed his fist against the table.
*Thump*
The wooden table rattled under his fist.
"You have gone too far, Burkhard. Just because everyone calls you Thunder Emperor, do you really think you are an emperor? Do you really think we’re fools? The centre aims to prevent you from misusing government funds. I came here to investigate that. Do you even care about the centre anymore?" Park Sanghyun was unwilling to change.
He accused the Thunder Emperor of crimes and rolled his eyes.
"And, why did you bring these youngsters over here? Do you want to scare me with these fledglings?"
Park Sanghyun tried his best to hide his panic and said.
His words ignited a flame in the hearts of those who appeared. With unhidden hostility, they gazed at him together.
For a second, even Park Sanghyun felt like he was about to die.
Still, he recovered by channelling a flow of mana through his skin. It took him some effort to block the aura.
Thunder Emperor frowned in disappointment, seeing him struggle.
Meanwhile, Oliver was holding in his laugh. He could feel the changes in future as the conflict intensified.
’Let me pour some oil into the fire.’
He decided to make the best use of the situation. So, he raised his head and spoke.
"Wait a fucking minute. How did doing business become illegal in this country?"
His voice caught the attention of everyone in the room.
For the past few minutes, only the voice of Thunder Emperor and Park Sanghyun was heard. But that changed with Oliver’s outburst.
"Mr. Potbelly here should clarify the illegality in our business and the reason for blocking our contract." His voice reverberated around the room.
Potbelly!
Potbelly?
POTBELLY!!!
Many of those inside widened their eyes.
Was he really calling a general that...
None could fathom his bravery...or should they call it stupidity?
A couple of dozen eyes gathered on Oliver.
Most of them had no idea who he was. Just because of him sitting with Sathyamoorthi, they had ignored him.
But now, they couldn’t.
Meanwhile, Mr Potbelly widened his eyes, exasperated. It has been half a century since someone has humiliated him like that.
The furious Park Sanghyun stood up and glared at Oliver.
"HOW DARE YOU?" He shouted his lungs out.
A torrent of mana leaked out of his body, flowing towards Oliver as if to pressure him.
Meanwhile, Oliver also stood up.
"Oh! I fucking dare. There is nothing I don’t dare, you potbellied fool of a person. Should I fill up my dare quota for the month with you?"
Oliver spewed fluent nonsense. His voice was loud and crystal clear. If anyone thought they misheard his previous comment, they were sure they didn’t, now.
"YOU!"
"YOU!"
Park Sanghyun and the people who came with him were speechless. They didn’t know how to react. So, they repeated the word ’You’ like a broken tape recorder.
It took a few seconds for Park Sanghyun to regain his sanity. He slammed his fist against the table again, this time harder.
The table edge he slammed shattered, and threw wooden splinters into the air.
"Whose child is this? Why is he here?" He screamed and looked around. Then he ordered his subordinates with a wave of his hand, "Kick him out."
Oliver was happy.
Conflict with people who are supposedly of a higher status than he always thrilled him.
As he saw the officers move towards him, he felt a jolt of excitement.
’Kicking me out will not be that easy.’ He muttered under his breath.
His voice was barely audible. Other than Root, Sathyamoorthi and Achara, no one else could hear him.
And three of them reacted differently to it.
Sathyamoorthi was shocked, terrified, and a little bit star-struck.
Achara rubbed her forehead harder, thinking about the future headache it would cause.
Meanwhile, Root giggled, his eyes glossing over. He was having fun. Not a day passed by when he didn’t have fun when he was with his boss.
As the duo approached Oliver, he stood with his body relaxed. In fact, he wanted them to injure him.
Currently, he was perfecting the art of playing victim. He thought he should play it again and scam some money out of these brutes.
But before the officers could place their hands on him, Thunder Emperor slowly stood up.
An electric spark flew in the air, creating a humming sound.
Instantly, he appeared just beside Oliver.
No one in the room could see how he moved.
He was too fast.
With tiny bluish arcs leaping off his body, Thunder Emperor intercepted the officers and stood in front of Oliver.
"Step back." He simply said.
But those who heard it felt a chill crawl up their spine.
The officers immediately stopped.
They didn’t take a step forward.
Thunder Emperor was a world-renowned superhuman with exceptional combat abilities.
A-rankers like them were nothing but worms in front of him.
So, they hesitated and stopped.
"Burkhard, did you tell that brat to humiliate me? Is that one of your illegitimate children..."
Before Park Sanghyun could complete the sentence, Thunder Emperor flashed and disappeared again.
This time, he appeared next to Park Sanghyun.
Park Sanghyun gulped nervously.
He didn’t know when, but a knife-like hand with shining plasma was placed next to his neck.
"Sanghyun, you should sit down."
A terrible, ominous voice spoke.
Immediately, Park Sanghyun felt his legs turn into jelly as he fell back into his chair.
"Oliver, you too." Thunder Emperor added.
"Ah...Why should I?" Showing a hint of disappointment that it didn’t end in a full on battle, Oliver sat down.
His eyes glared at the officer who was about to catch him by the collar.
Simultaneously, he winked at them, obviously mocking their inability to do anything against him.
Despite being furious, they had to turn away and walk back.
"We are civilised people. Let’s proceed with our discussion in a civilised manner. Does everyone agree?" Thunder Emperor asked.
His words carried the intent for peace, but his tone was that of provocation. He didn’t like the way the situation was turning.
"Yes, we need to be civilised. Unlike certain potbellied bastards." Oliver added.
This made Park Sanghyun squirm in his seat. But he didn’t dare stand up.
Just a moment ago, Thunder Emperor released him and allowed him to sit. Although he didn’t fear being injured, he didn’t want to lose face again.
He suppressed his anger and said, "There is nothing to talk about anymore. I am using my power to veto your decision. The contract with WorldNet will not be signed today."
Park Sanghyun wanted to say that and leave.
However, a flash of electricity momentarily shocked his legs as he tried to stand.
He had to sit down again.
"Hey, did you not hear my question? When did business become a crime in this country?" Oliver asked again, this time, his tone was sharp.
"Sanghyun, you should answer that." Even Thunder Emperor pressed on for an answer.
There was no way out but to answer it.
Park Sanghyun hid his emotions and began to speak,
"The moment Burkhard bought the share of WorldNet, it became illegal. How could he deny allegations of embezzlement when he was involved in a business deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars? That too with an unknown startup that appeared from nowhere." As if he had the upper hand, he said.
Oliver became curious.
Before anyone else could speak, he asked, "Hey, who told you he bought the share?"
"Hmph. No one needs to tell me anything."
"The transfer of shares was done privately. So, how can you know about that? We didn’t notarise it yet..." Oliver’s voice trailed off, suspicion evident in it.
"Did you spy on us?"
"So, you agree that you transferred shares. Ha ha ha." Park Sanghyun laughed as if it were some ’gotcha moment’.
Oliver, on the other hand, looked at him with pity. He could finally see how stupid this old potbellied bald gentleman was.
’Being born with the intelligence of a toad while looking like one is not a crime.’ He silently said in his mind.
Oliver wondered how such a person became a general.
Was the military going through some internal problem?
’Maybe I should check it.’
"Hey, old man. It was a gift. We didn’t receive any payment. So, you can’t technically say he bought it." Oliver corrected.
"Does that matter? He accepted with the intent to swindle money from the government. He should be punished." Park Sanghyun said while glancing at both Oliver and Thunder Emperor.
