Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 61: Time Is Tight
Fifteen hours ago...
00.10 AM. Yuyang Municipal Bureau, Violent Crime Investigation Division.
After they found Zhao Xinya’s body, the progress of the investigation had increased substantially. Overnight, the forensic officers performed an autopsy and took all the DNA they could find on Miss Zhao’s body.
The culprit had been proven to be very meticulous and alert. They must have used gloves and covered their body parts securely when they confronted the victim. After hours of work, the exhausted officers finally found a small piece of broken skin under Miss Zhao’s bloody nails which did not belong to her.
The Goddess of Luck must have finally bestowed mercy to these tired dogs who had worked nonstop for more than 24 hours. They actually found a perfect match of the piece of broken skin with a criminal in their database!
Almost immediately, everyone was rejuvenated. "Who?! Who is this bastard?!"
Finally, they had a lead! Even though they still needed a long way to go to catch the culprit, at least they had a clear direction on where to proceed! This was no doubt the greatest news they had received after they took on the case!
The technician showed a page of information to the large screen. "Long Guozhi, 46 years old. Beta." A formal photo of a sinister looking middle-aged man appeared in their line of sight. He had sideburns and a vicious scar running across his right cheek. "He was arrested for theft and sexual assault toward minors. His final verdict was ten years of imprisonment. Two months ago, on 17th March, he finished his sentence and was released from prison."
Everyone showed a look of astonishment when they heard it. This criminal had just been released for two months and here he was, committing another crime again. And this time, it was a homicide?!
"Sick bastard!"
"Motherfucker! Don’t let laozi[1] catch you!"
"Fuck, he’s the same type of animal as Deng Shi and the others!"
A sharp light flashed through Captain Li Zhi’s eyes. He immediately asked the technician. "Ten years ago, before Long Guozhi was arrested and imprisoned, where did he live?"
The technician’s eyes were wide in shock as he scanned through the file. "Oh my God, the address recorded in the database is in District 15 as well!"
Everyone could not help but burst out in foul curses. Exactly what was up with District 15? Was it a cursed place where many criminals gathered?! A hot-blooded officer proposed a plan passionately, "Captain, should we go and raid District 15 right now? Who knows how many fugitives we will be able to find there?!"
His words garnered much approval from the others. However, Li Zhi was unmoved. Now, he could conclude for certain that Deng Shi and Long Guozhi must be connected in one way or another. The former had sexually assaulted Zhao Xinya twenty two years ago, while the latter came to kill her twenty two years later after he had just been released from prison. Li Zhi furrowed his brow. He had a nagging feeling that they had missed a crucial link and everything could not be so simple...
At that moment, Chen Lian’s cold and compelling voice pierced through the crowd of hot-blooded officers. "Captain, I think there’s something off with this case."
Li Zhi raised a brow and gestured for her to continue.
Chen Lian paused for a moment to sort out her thoughts, then relayed her opinion in a concise and logical manner. "In hindsight, criminals who have just been released from prison will keep a low profile for a period of time. Even if they can’t resist their inner urge, they will still commit a crime that is familiar to them. However, in Long Gongzhi’s case, not only did he commit a crime after a short two months of being released, it is also a homicide which he is not convicted for. It doesn’t conform to the norm. It’s more like..." Chen Lian poked the tip of her tongue on her cheek. "...he has nothing to be afraid of or he has received some kind of command."
"Isn’t that basically the same thing?!" Kang Guanyu cried out in shock. "It’s because he has received an order from his backing that he dared to kill people! And this person was especially powerful, enough to convince Long Gongzhi to take the fall for him in case the deed is discovered!"
Hearing this, everyone fell into a momentary silence. What Chen Lian and Kang Guanyu said made sense, but... they had no evidence to back this claim at all. But if their speculation was correct, then this homicide might end up becoming a cold case[2] in the end!
Sensing that everyone’s thoughts had wandered, Li Zhi clapped his hands to draw their attention.
"Right now, the most important thing is to catch Long Guozhi. I don’t want to know whether someone is backing him or whatnot, this son of a bitch has to be thrown back into jail simply because he has killed someone! Understand?"
The officers straightened up and answered loudly. "Understood, Sir!"
Li Zhi immediately started to give out commands. "Chen Lian, investigate whether there is a link between Miss Zhao and Long Guozhi, no matter how negligible it is, even if they used to frequent the same noodle shop!
"Mu Yuze, go and find out whether Long Guozhi is in cahoot with Deng Shi, use any possible means to extort the truth from him!
"Kang Guanyu, retrieve the surveillance record within five kilometers radius of the apartment with it being the center point. I don’t believe that we can’t find out where Long Guozhi has gone after he killed Miss Zhao!
"As for the others, block every train station, airport and highway checkpoint in Yuyang to prevent Long Guozhi from escaping the city! Pay attention to the illegal car rental service too! Go, go, go!" He urged in a booming voice. "Time is tight and we have to move fast before this bastard can escape from our radar!"
"Yes, Captain!!!"
Mu Yuze nodded and rose from his seat. His fists were clenched tight and his dark eyes were brighter than usual. There was a new suspect! The suspicion on Juan-gege had finally been lifted! Even though it was past midnight, he could not resist sending He Juan another voice note to inform him of the good news.
During those few short seconds, the frost in his eyes softened considerably. It was a pity that nobody was around to witness it, otherwise they would definitely be shocked out of their wits.
Only after making sure that the voice note was sent successfully did he push open the door to the interrogation room and came face-to-face with the person whom He Juan had beaten up less than twelve hours ago, and then got beaten up again by Mu Yuze a little more than an hour thereafter. The bruises on Deng Shi’s face were swollen, making him look more like a pig than a person, and his whole person was akin to wilted radish as he slumped over the table.
Mu Yuze dragged the chair back, issuing a shrill screech from the friction on the floor.
Deng Shi was startled awake from his fuzzy sleep and snapped his head up, only to meet with this person who had given him great psychological trauma. His eyes widened in fear and he subconsciously tried to put as much distance as possible from this little devil. It was unfortunate that he was cuffed and was unable to move at will. Damn it! One was a big devil while the other was a little devil. His luck was really shitty to have encountered both of them on the same day!
"W–What do you want?" He snarled fiercely. "I have already confessed everything!"
"Not everything." Mu Yuze’s dark eyes bore down on him, and there seemed to be a terrifying penetrating power to it that made Deng Shi cower. "Now, you’re going to tell me what you know about Long Guozhi."
