CEO's Contract Obsession-Chapter 302: [Bonus - ] Unauthorized Alterations
As they leave the airport en route to Henry’s mansion in Brookegrove, Jayson embraces Amy, and Henry holds Jena close. Walking ahead, the Welsh couple exudes pure happiness, with the Bell kids and others following closely behind, observing their joyous bond.
Upon hearing Auntie Helen sniffle beside him, Uncle Troy glanced her way and remarked, "Are you still crying? Come on, dear, it’s time to move on. Jayson is better now," he said dismissively.
"I’m not crying because of that, you silly man," Helen replied, playfully tapping Troy’s arm. "I’m just overwhelmed with joy looking at them. I’m certain Madam would be happy too if she could see her daughter and grandchildren in good hands. I never thought I would live to witness this day," she added, her emotions still running high.
Helen ceased sniffing and turned to her husband, surprised to hear him sniff as well.
"Oh, you stop it, old woman," Troy whispered to Helen, playfully teasing her. "Why are you making me cry too? The Boss would be delighted as well, knowing that Amy and the kids are okay," he said with a hint of emotion in his voice. Helen chuckled affectionately at her tender-hearted husband.
"Hey, you two, pick up the pace, and no more crying. This is a joyful occasion, and Jena and Jayson will bombard you with endless questions if they catch you crying and laughing at the same time," Mary said, gently urging her parents to compose themselves as they laughed and shed tears.
Their journey to the mansion remained smooth, as the kids eventually fell asleep, fortunately evading their inquisitive interrogation about every little thing that crossed their minds.
"When did you rehearse that performance?" Amy questioned Henry abruptly as they arrived at the mansion.
"That’s a secret, love," Henry responded with a playful smirk, as he lifted the sleeping Jayson out of the car.
Amy pouted, placing her hands on her hips, and exclaimed, "What? Why wouldn’t you tell me?"
Henry didn’t give a direct answer but instead winked and smiled before entering the mansion. Jena woke up just before Uncle Robert could pick her up and immediately searched for her Aunt Amy.
"Auntie, are we going to stay here forever?" Jena inquired, tugging at Amy’s shirt.
Amy crouched down to meet Jena at eye level and asked, while gently pinching the little girl’s chubby cheek, "Why do you ask, sweetheart?"
"The food here is delicious, and I can eat anytime," Jena replied, which tugged at Amy’s heartstrings.
Before she met Henry, Amy could only provide for their basic needs, and there were many times when she couldn’t afford the food and things that the kids liked, yet they never complained or asked for more.
Amy mustered a weak smile, wanting to show Jena that she was happy, despite the pain that came with thoughts of the past. "We will go back to Monte City because you and Jayson need to go back to school," she reassured her.
"But I am a big girl now, and I don’t want to share a room with Jayson in Grandma’s house. His basketball is annoying," Jena pouted, looking down at the ground.
Amy chuckled at Jena’s innocent reasoning, "You will have your own room, baby. I’ve already decorated it. We will live in Uncle Henry’s house, and it’s much bigger than this one."
Jena’s round eyes widened with excitement, "Really? Okay, I will not get annoyed at Jayson anymore," she exclaimed before darting back to the mansion, leaving Amy with Uncle Robert in the driveway.
"You know, those two tried so hard to keep everything a secret. They really want to surprise you, we are not even allowed to talk about it in their presence," Robert chuckled while shaking his head.
"Thank you, Uncle, it was the best surprise of my life. By the way, when did Jayson start to walk?" Amy couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity. He is happy that Jayson is now back to being a normal kid but she still wants to know the details.
"His progress was remarkably fast because he’s determined to walk," Uncle Robert explained. "He said that once you see him walk, you won’t cry anymore. He also mentioned that once he starts walking, Henry will marry you, and you’ll be able to officially adopt them, becoming Jena’s mom. Jayson believes that Jena needs a mom since she’s young."
"And what about him?" Amy asked, referring to Jayson not thinking that he is young and seemingly not needing a mom. They both shared a laugh at Jayson’s unique perspective. The accident had pushed him to mature quickly, always caring for his sister and Amy like a true young man.
After the exhausting long hours of flight and feeling the effects of jet lag, Amy went straight to their room to rest. However, upon arriving, she couldn’t find Henry anywhere. Rather than dealing with her jetlag, she opted to search for Henry throughout the mansion.
As she entered the study, Amy noticed the four men looking serious, deeply engrossed in their discussion. Concerned, she approached Henry’s side and asked, "You all look serious. Is everything okay?"
Her presence brought a momentary pause in the discussion, and the men exchanged glances before Theo spoke up.
"I ordered a surprise inspection yesterday to ensure everything is up to code," Theo responded to Amy’s question. "Since it was a weekend, everyone at the site was taken aback to see an inspector there."
Curious, Amy asked, "So, what did you find during the inspection?"
"There was a mistake in the measurement of one of the pipes," Theo admitted, attempting to reassure his boss and Henry’s, not wanting to incur their wrath for any oversight. "But don’t worry, the contractor is already on it, and they’ll fix it right away."
However, Amy wasn’t fully satisfied with his answer. She probed further, saying, "Mistake? The people assigned there are highly skilled engineers and experts. How did they manage to go wrong?"
Theo felt cold sweat forming on his forehead and the back of his neck as Amy’s voice, though not angry, was firm and stern. He couldn’t believe how much Amy had grown since their earlier days when she was a naive and innocent girl. Now, she exuded authority and confidence as a lady boss.
"I’m certain it was an honest mistake because I know the people who work there, and I can vouch for them," Theo quickly explained, trying to ease Amy’s concern. "As soon as I return to Monte City tomorrow, it will be my top priority. I’ll report everything back to you once I assess the situation there."
Amy nodded in acknowledgment, though she wasn’t thrilled with the news as it could mean additional costs. However, she understood that there wasn’t much she could do about it at the moment. She felt worried, knowing she would be away for a month, and Henry would be with her for only a few days. It would be up to Theo and Anton to handle and fix the problem.
"There’s more, love," Henry said, causing Amy to frown. He continued, "Ava told Rei that Vanessa asked Ash to meet her in a restaurant for something important. And whenever Vanessa is involved, it usually means trouble. Ava mentioned it could be about news regarding the real mastermind behind the accident or that Vanessa might ask Ash for help in causing some trouble."
Amy let out a sigh of exasperation. "I understand, but what other bad news awaits us in this room? We’re supposed to be enjoying this day, but all I hear is nothing but stressful news that we can’t do anything about."
The mounting stress was evident in Amy’s demeanor, and everyone noticed the sudden shift in her emotions. Henry, not wanting to add to her distress, quickly pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her shoulders in a comforting gesture.
"That’s all, love. Let’s head to our room. You must be tired," Henry said, recognizing that Amy needed some rest after the stressful news they had just received.
Amy nodded, as that was precisely what she wanted in the first place. The weight of the bad news from the men had taken its toll on her nerves.
With a knowing look shared among the three men, Henry guided Amy out of the study and towards their room. Meanwhile, one of the engineers had already double-checked the blueprint of the ongoing construction and discovered unauthorized alterations that shouldn’t have been there.
Theo had taken the initiative to launch an investigation, and Rei had ordered his men to tighten security in the area. It was evident that someone was attempting to sabotage the wellsite, and they strongly suspected it was the same individual who had orchestrated everything from the beginning.
Theo’s stress about the situation was evident, but Rei’s stress level was through the roof. He and his team were putting in a relentless effort to track down the mastermind, yet the person always seemed to be one step ahead of them. Rei firmly believed that this individual must be exceptionally powerful and intelligent to have successfully infiltrated the wellsite and orchestrated the sabotage from such an early stage.
Despite the mounting challenges, Rei remained unwavering in his determination to apprehend this mastermind. He knew they couldn’t afford to let the sabotage continue, as it posed not only a threat to the wellsite but also to the safety and well-being of everyone involved in the project.
As the pressure intensified, Rei keenly felt the weight of responsibility resting on his shoulders. He understood the gravity of finding the mastermind, and he and his team would leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice and protecting the project from further harm.
