Coldsnap: The Billionaire Alpha's Fated Pregnant Princess (GL)-Chapter 177 - Planning For (Shared?) Parenthood
Chapter 177: Chapter 177 - Planning For (Shared?) Parenthood
He processed my payment with the same unquestioning swipe of the white bankcard Claire had promised. It does bother me that I’m not directly paying with my own funds, but as this is a ’corporate account’ it might be better to keep things... aligned.
"Pleasure doing business with you. I’ll be over there in a bit. If you need anything else, just call - we’ve got accounts with most of the other suppliers in town too. But if you can leave that woman out of your visit next time?"
"No promises. I didn’t include her in it this time, either."
With that sort of lie, considering she did direct me here... I left the store and began walking to a mattress store to get an eye on some of their models. With a pause in my step about a hundred feet from Stroman Supply...
I realized I’d just built another connection into Kyrie’s network - an Omega who thought well of his Alpha. A man who could provide easier access to purchases I might need to make. It might not be as high up as her ’Executive Assistant’...
> But I’m clearly surrounding myself with her people. <
My wolf saw no problem with that. Insisting that they’d be my people as well. But I’m not so sure any of them would see it like that. Especially when I show up talking about the apocalypse, birthing a pup, and being in a... non-standard fated mate bond with their pack leader.

The mattress store was something like the furniture outlets I’d browsed through earlier. Softer lighting, carpeted floors, and rows upon rows of beds displayed like they were in actual bedrooms.
A large difference from the warehouse supply store I’d just left. Including the bubbly, middle-aged woman serving as the salesperson who has marked me. Unlike with Davie, I’m already getting ’intentional upsell’ energy and she hasn’t even spoken yet.
"Good afternoon! Looking for anything specific today?"
However, her smile was warm and she had a confidence about her like most merchants who’d spent years in the same field. In this case, helping people find the right bed. I realized I had no idea how to shop for this.
"I need a good bed. Something that will last and be... comfortable for extended use."
"Wonderful! Are you thinking firm or soft? Any back issues or sleep preferences?"
She gestured over to a little display that could be pressed down on to tell the difference between firmness. I walked over pressed down on the ’mattress’ chunk with my palm. Far too soft.
The next few were better, but still nothing like the bare ground. These people really like their pillowy beds, don’t they? Is that a human thing or just... a city thing?
"Firmer is better than not. And I might need to spend... a lot of time in bed in the coming months."
She nodded, probably thinking I meant recovery from surgery or something similar. Or maybe she has correctly guessed my state for all I know. Well... at least the pregnancy part.
> Yes, no one is going to be thinking werewolf or what sort of child this will be just at a glance. Except... maybe that Ellie, thinking it is my ’setting’. I need to be careful what I say around her if we meet again. <
Considering how ’good’ I have been around other females, despite my wolf knowing my past and preferences, it doesn’t have that much objection to me meeting with the other werewolf. Vrika has realized my attraction is aimed at a sure target as much as I have.
"Being able to elevate your head or feet can make all the difference for comfort during extended bed rest. You’ll definitely want to look at our adjustable options."
She led me to a display that looked like a regular bed until she picked up a small ’remote control’. With the press of a button, the head of the mattress began to rise smoothly and remind me, from Helene’s memories, of television medical dramas.
"You can adjust the head and foot independently. Some models also have massage functions, lumbar support adjustment, even USB charging ports built into the base."
I watched as she demonstrated the various positions with fascination. The engineering was impressive - and more importantly, I could immediately see the practical applications.
> For getting off my feet during late pregnancy. For recovery after the childbirth. This isn’t just a luxury. <
My wolf was less sure of that than me. Insisting that it would do its best to heal me back up so nothing like this was truly necessary so long as I had food to power it all. But I’d already made my decision.
"Show me the best model you have."
Her eyes lit up at that. I imagine she is happy indeed, that I’ve already sold myself. She rattles on about cooling gel memory foam, adjustable firmness zones, and the most advanced positioning system with programmable memory.
> They really like the word memory, too. <
She walked me through the features while I tested it myself. The mattress conformed perfectly to my body, and the motorized adjustments were smooth and nearly silent. But only nearly to a human.
"What about power? It needs electricity to work?"
"Yes, though it has a battery backup for power outages. The base plugs into any standard outlet. We also recommend connecting a surge protector for the electronics."
I made a mental note to add that to my growing list of electrical needs. The lights for the container, now this bed - I was going to need a proper power setup somewhere inside. Which means I’ll need to find someone who can explain all of that to me.
"Does it come in queen size?"
"Yes. We have models like this that are single and also split version so that your partner can create their own settings."
My face heats when she says partner. Rather, it does because I immediately pictured someone laying here beside me. Turning over to me with white hair and brown eyes flickering orange.
"...Split, please. When can you deliver?"
"I’ll have to make sure that our driver and technician slots aren’t full, but we can probably do a whole install tomorrow afternoon. Even take your old used mattress along with them."
> Well, that... might be a problem. <
