Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 101: Meeting His Other Half
Chapter 101: Meeting His Other Half
Some Hours Earlier
"I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I am so sorry!" Brooke kept chanting from outside the changing room of the clothing store close to the airport.
"I didn’t mean to-" her words were cut off when Thane stepped out of the dressing room in a checkered grey and white shirt and a pair of jeans underneath.
"It is not your fault Brooke."
"Yes it is. I got jet lagged and threw up all over your clothes, it is a hundred percent my fault." She groaned.
Thane crouched down and held her hand, "It was your first flight."
"It was your first flight too. Or well, your first time not in a jet, but still. I feel awful. Did you see the way the driver looked at me?" She huffed, recalling the morbid look on their cab driver’s face when he arrived at the airport to pick them up.
Thane gave her hand a tight squeeze, "I really don’t mind it. And I’m glad to be out of those clothes, I’ve never tried this style before, but I got to because of you." He said, rubbing his thumb over her wedding ring.
She parted her lips to say something, but was cut short by her phone ringing. Thane got off his knees to call the driver to come back, giving Brooke her privacy.
She quickly answered the phone, "Thank goodness you answered Miss Brooke! We were both worried sick about you!" ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Brooke sighed in relief to hear Hannah’s voice again, she truly wished she was here with her, but didn’t dare to say that out loud.
"Where is Master Grayson? Is he there?" She heard Gilbert ask over Hannah’s voice.
Brooke nodded, "Yeah, he’s calling our cab driver, it’s pretty late but I think we can make it to his dad’s birthday dinner." She just wished, that they had the time to shop at a store that sold clothes they could actually wear.
Or pick up a gift for his dad.
"Please Miss Brooke, there’s something we have to tell you, and forgive me for not alerting you any sooner. It’s about master Grayson’s health-" Gilbert was saying, only for Thane to return with a cup of coffee and some pastries.
He leaned in and plastered a quick kiss on her forehead, "The taxi is right outside. Let’s head out? If we leave now, we might make it to father’s speech."
Hearing Thane’s voice, the call was suddenly disconnected on the other end.
Brooke noticed and thought it odd. ’They are all hiding something from me, about his health, now I’m very sure that’s the case.’ she thought, while accepting the cup of coffee.
Throughout the ride, Brooke didn’t know whether or not if it was the right time to ask Thane about his health.
’Should I just tell them I already know he’s hiding something? But will he think I don’t trust him? I want him to trust me, enough to tell me himself. But what do I do?’ she sighed and looked out the window.
It still felt surreal to her, going to Thane’s family house, and meeting the Grayson family.
What were they like?
Would they accept her?
"You’re overthinking something again, aren’t you?" Thane asked, drawing her attention.
"How can I not? I’m meeting your family for the first time right after our wedding. I think I’m allowed to overreact." She said, spilling out her thoughts.
Thane reached for her hand, "Do not have your expectations high, they’ll only get crushed."
"Why do you say that about them? What’s the real deal with your family?" She asked, trying to get as much information as possible.
For a half minute he kept quiet and she believed he wouldn’t say anything, until he cleared his throat to explain the circumstance.
"The family is ruled by my grandfather, and he has high standards for being a Grayson. Anyone who doesn’t meet his expectations automatically becomes fodder, he’s the sort of man who will abandon his family if they disappoint him." He started off.
"Wait? What? But he’s your grandfather isn’t he? Why would he-" she stopped herself from talking, she recalled her own situation and realized just how similar she was to Thane.
Thane let out an exasperated sigh, "I know, because he’s done it before."
His announcement sent shivers down Brooke’s spine. "What?" She gasped.
"One of the family members strayed too far from his ideal conception of what a Grayson should be. And, as a result, that person was completely removed from the family by grandfather, and forced to disassociate from the rest of the family." He revealed, heightening the level of Brooke’s nervousness.
She had no idea that Thane’s grandfather was so ruthless, and now that she knew, she was getting cold feet about meeting him.
-Present-
Brooke held her breath when the soft music stopped playing and all the guests seized their chatter the moment they laid eyes on her.
She discreetly took off her ring and hid it in her clenched palm.
"Son! I am so happy you made it!" A woman, with the same shade of eyes as Thane and Matthew greeted, walking calculatedly over to them.
Behind her was an older man, who looked like he could be the father of Thane and Matthew. Brooke immediately knew they were his parents and felt nauseous.
"Son! Why didn’t you call for a driver to come pick you up from the hangar?" Rosalind asked, picking up a glass of white wine from the nearest waiter.
Brooke spotted Matthew, next to a ginger haired lady, who had her intense gaze pointed at her husband.
Reflexively, she reached to hold Thane’s hand, but a maid from behind grabbed onto her wrist.
"Miss, come with me." The maid said, her tone a mix of confusion and forced politeness.
She, alongside the rest of the guests wondered who the plainly dressed woman next to the Grayson heir was.
Brooke spoke lowly, "Um, I’m alright here-"
Rosalind cut her off, "It’s good you made it, because there is an important thing your father and I have to tell you. Come this way..." She stopped herself from speaking when her eyes landed on Brooke.
"And, who are you?" She asked, unimpressed by the underdressed woman. "Are you one of the maids?" She deduced from the maid holding onto her wrist.
Brooke shook her head, "Um, no, I’m-" she tried to speak, but the maid kept tugging on her wrist.
Malcolm turned to his son, "Come and greet your grandfather, then meet with these important guests..."
Rosalind kept asking, "I believe I asked you a question..."
Whilst Matthew quickly trudged to the scene, "Mother wait, she’s just a nobody-"
Everyone’s curiosity and rowdiness came to an end, when Thane crouched down, lifted Brooke off the wheelchair into his arms and kissed her forehead gently.
With the entire hall silenced, he announced, "Meet my wife, Brooke."
