Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 246: The Person With The Most Control
Chapter 246: The Person With The Most Control
"Check mate." Zachiel grinned, knocking down his friend’s pawn.
His friend, Harrison chuckled, "It seems that no matter how much I try, I just cannot beat you. We’ve been playing for four decades and I’ve lost every time."
Zachiel signaled his caretaker to rearrange the pawns.
"Most people think chess is a game centered around wits and strategy. But in reality, it’s all about how much control you can have over your pawns, and your enemy’s pawns. The person with the most control wins, it’s just that simple." Zachiel explained over the soft music playing from his vintage record player.
Harrison raised a brow. "Are we still talking about chess, or about the situation with your grandson?"
"Why can’t it be both? As it stands, Thane must be regretting not siding with me. Naturally, because I’m older I’ll forgive him for his foolishness, young people tend to make rash decisions-" Harrison cut him off.
"But Thane doesn’t act his age, I still think attacking his weak spot will only make the boy resent you even more." Harrison pointed out, reaching for the bottle of wine next to him.
"He can’t afford to resent me." Picking up a pawn he started a new game, "I’ve blocked every single one of his connections in that country. My foolish grandson has no more pawns to control-" he was saying, only to be interrupted by a phone ringing.
His caretaker, swiftly rushed to the telephone and tried to disconnect the call, but Zachiel stopped them immediately.
He got up, surprising Harrison, "It must be an important call if he had to personally get it." He thought, watching his pompous old friend walk over to the telephone.
Zachiel, who knew who was on the other line frowned, to himself he wondered, ’Why is the police commissioner calling? I instructed him to only call once he’s released Brooke.’ he reached for the phone and brought it to his ear.
He did not need to waste a single second before the voice on the other end filled him in, "Master Grayson, please forgive my incompetence, but the young master’s wife has been released from prison." He announced.
Zachiel’s eyes went round, "What?!"
Brooke imagined that since she was in Thane’s arms, everything would be okay, however her thoughts were far from reality. The driver from the other car was swiftly cleared by the traffic wardens, and approached Thane’s car.
Brooke expected Thane’s driver to drive off, but Thane instructed him otherwise. "Wait, I want to speak with the bastard myself." He said, getting out of the car.
Tugging onto his arm, she shook her head, "I’m out of prison, and we’re both safe, let’s just leave them alone." She pleaded. free𝑤ebnovel.com
But Thane refused, gently peeling her fingers off he explained, "I’m sorry, but I need to know who this person is, and just how they were involved in everything that’s happened."
"Mr Grayson, all that isn’t important right now..." she couldn’t understand why Thane was so fixated on speaking to this person. "I’m here with you-"
He sharply interjected, "But I have no idea how you’re here with me." He revealed, in plainer words he told her, "I wasn’t the one who got you out of prison."
Back at the filming location, the cast members were faced with a difficult announcement.
Sadie immediately reacted, "You can’t do that! Brooke was meant to be the female lead in the first place, dropping her out of this film is too much!"
But Damien felt differently, "The woman got arrested, even if you don’t have a reputation to take care of, I can’t have my image tarnished any further."
The casting director seconded, "Keeping that woman would be self sabotage. We have to drop her."
Sadie balled her fists, "We don’t even know her side of the story yet, it could all be a misunderstanding. Won’t we appear heartless to the public if we suddenly take her out of the cast?"
In response, Damien said, "If anything, we’d be letting go of a liability. From what I’ve heard, a man was taken out in an ambulance, no matter what we think she’s already been implicated in an assault case."
The casting director inserted, "We have no real reason to keep her in this movie. She’s dragging production and keeps creating scandals." He raised his hand, "I vote we take her off the film, before we incur more loses."
Damien swiftly raised his hand, "I second that decision. That woman is far too problematic." He said, but in his mind he recalled, ’Not to mention that she might be a spy planted by the Grayson heir. If that bastard thinks forcing our company to endorse Cassie was wise, I’ll just have to get back at him.’
Sadie rubbed her stomach and pressed her lips firmly, she turned to Lucas, her gaze helpless, "Please-" but he cut her off by raising his hand.
"Someone who creates scandals is no good for production, she should’ve been more considerate of this movie before acting so rashly." He announced firmly, taking his stand on the decision.
His words caused a tear to trickle from Sadie’s eye. She lowered her head, and slowly raised her hand, too overwhelmed to say a word in refutal.
The lead script writer looked across the room, her expectant eyes seemed to be waiting for something, some sort of convincing reason to keep her hand down. But when she saw none, she slowly raised her hand, only to be cut off by Dylan, who had but said a word the entire meeting.
"And what about our sponsors?" He asked calmly, slicing through the tension.
The director who had equally been silent replied, "Our newest sponsor was clear in his intentions, he invested that much just for Brooke. If we drop her, we may incur loses much heavier than we can cushion."
Lucas frowned, "Flynn, you think we’re not aware of that?" He dropped his hand, "But money isn’t everything-"
Dylan chimed, "But it is. If it wasn’t, you wouldn’t have cast her in this movie in the first place."
