Enemies Are All Nourishment for My Fungi-Chapter 296 - : Astounding Time Difference Between Inside and Outside the Otherworld
Chapter 296 -296: Astounding Time Difference Between Inside and Outside the Otherworld
Spores were flying outwards while others fell into the soil right where they landed, beginning to grow.
Ye Nai discovered that with her breathing, continuously replenishing energy from the air, releasing spores was more effortless than ever before.
And in such an environment, the growth speed of the Fungal Mycelium was astounding; she could even feel a fungal mat rapidly taking shape and expanding beneath her feet.
This was an unprecedented growth rate for the Fungal Mycelium, even faster than it had been in the Secret Realm.
After standing in place for a while, the exploratory spores sent back their locations. Ye Nai clenched her fist, ready to take her first step in the Otherworld, when suddenly, as if by some psychic sense, she looked downwards.
Underneath a pile of dead leaves, a mushroom was breaking through the soil, and under Ye Nai’s gaze, it spread its cap—a cute, plump little white mushroom.
Ye Nai squatted down, gently tugged at it, and then plucked the little white mushroom out, root and all.
As this little white mushroom was uprooted, more and more little white mushrooms began popping up from beneath the surrounding dead leaves.
Ye Nai was both amazed and delighted; her spores had only ever grown into Fungal Mycelium on Blue Star and in those Secret Realms, yet just stepping into the Otherworld, the Fungal Mycelium had already grown into fruiting bodies.
She quickly realized that, Blue Star aside, those Secret Realms must also be scarce in energy.
Ye Nai picked a bunch of little white mushrooms, and as more emerged from the soil, their abundance suggested a path to her.
So, Ye Nai took out a stainless steel vegetable basin from her Space, and while walking, she continued to pick them, not stopping even as her back grew sore, filling one basin and then another.
Following this trail, the little white mushrooms led Ye Nai from the dimly lit primeval forest to a sunny little grassland.

Having grown tired, she took out a personal outdoor chair and plopped down to take a rest.
Then the fun began—the entire grassland started to sprout little white mushrooms left and right. She plucked one, and another appeared; she couldn’t pick them fast enough.
For the Fungal Mycelium to grow into fruiting bodies, or mushrooms, normally, the mycelium within the soil would need to undergo a regrowth process before new fruiting bodies could emerge.
Now, this growth process was extremely compressed; Ye Nai picked quickly, and new mushrooms grew even faster with the supporting fungal mat thickening layer by layer.
Eventually, Ye Nai added a new compartment to her Space specifically for the little white mushrooms, pouring them in basin by basin.
She also tried using spores to collect them, but that didn’t work; the spores simply sank into the soil and became part of the Fungal Mycelium.
All these endlessly sprouting little white mushrooms had to be handpicked by her.
She wished for the Fungal Mycelium to stop turning into mushrooms, but it didn’t listen, just kept growing non-stop.
Ye Nai could only keep picking.
When she was too tired to continue, she sat down for a break, took a sip of a drink, and once rested, she continued her work.
She wanted to see just how many little white mushrooms she had to collect before it would end.
These were mushrooms formed from her superpower spores; she was determined to pick them all, leaving none for others or for mutant beasts.
She picked mushrooms with unwavering focus, while the spores around her took care of her protection.
As mushrooms emerged from the ground, the vast quantities of spores they released, partly sinking into the soil to form new Fungal Mycelium and mushrooms, and partly forming a protective wall.
Predators of all sizes coming after fresh prey were all taken down by the spores in a single hit, and their bodies sprouted swathes of Fungal Mycelium, which decomposed their fur, flesh, and blood cleanly to bare bones in minutes. The bones took a little longer to break down but were still dissolving.
In this energy-rich area, the spores’ offensive power had also significantly increased.
So she kept busy on and off for half the day until the sky gradually darkened, and finally, the grassland stopped sprouting little white mushrooms. Her watch showed she had been there for five hours.
“Geez, finally done with the busywork.”
Ye Nai wiped off her sweat and didn’t hesitate to return to the East Ridge Secret Realm.
No sooner had she set foot on the land of the Secret Realm than she felt something was amiss.
It was still daylight within the Secret Realm.
She took another look at her watch, confirming that five hours had passed.
Then, she picked up her mobile phone and was surprised to find that only five minutes had gone by.
“Is my phone broken or is it my watch? Why is there such a huge time difference?”
Two seconds later, she hesitated again.
“But what if they aren’t broken?”
“Five hours to five minutes? A 60:1 time difference ratio?”
Ye Nai switched her phone to the calculator app because she was afraid she wouldn’t get it clear by mental math alone.
“If both the phone and the watch are fine, 60:1… a year in the Otherworld only amounts to a little over six days in the Secret Realm? The Secret Realm is 12 hours apart from Blue Star, which means, the time difference between the Otherworld and Blue Star is also 60:1?!”
“Holy moly, that’s awesome!”
“Farming in the Otherworld for a year, and when I bring back the harvest to Blue Star, only a week will have passed?”
Ye Nai’s eyebrows lifted in excitement, but then she quickly sobered up.
“Hey? That’s not right! With a 60:1 time difference, if the enemy has been invading for 50 years, doesn’t it mean that 3,000 years have passed here in the Otherworld? They’ve had 3,000 years of continuously burgeoning populations to feed their war machine, while Blue Star has had only 50 years’ worth of people. No wonder they never run out of troops. Heh, they certainly don’t.”
“But how come they still seem so primitive? With 3,000 years of development, haven’t they applied their unique power systems to technological advancement? They’ve taken over the land from those old developed countries, haven’t they learned to utilize their technology?”
“Oh, I forgot, those developed countries only had a little cutting-edge technology left before the war. Without the complete path to climb the tech tree, no wonder sometimes their guns look like they lack maintenance. They could be leftovers from some warehouse, and the fact that an old gun can still be used now speaks to the product quality.”
“Their chainsaws for cutting trees belch out black smoke, which probably means their technology is crudely improvised. Not to mention the poor quality of the fuel, where are they getting crude oil from? Are there oil fields nearby?”
“There’s an abundance of energy in the Otherworld, I wonder if Blue Star’s seeds can be cultivated here. I need to get some land and give it a try.”
Ye Nai smacked her lips and jotted down these two ideas in her notebook.
No sooner had she stopped writing than another troubling thought occurred to her.
“Aw crap, with such a huge time disparity, if I spend too much time here and only a few months pass on Blue Star, wouldn’t I age and die in just days?”
Considering this possibility made Ye Nai feel a numbness in her heart, but it wasn’t as numbing as one might expect.
“No, that’s not right. It’s hard to say what would happen to others who come here and then go back, but I should be an exception. I still need to observe more.”
“Or maybe, I could take over a landlord and have him farm the land, then I could just go back to Blue Star, wait for a week, and come back for the yield?”
“That wouldn’t really work either. The language barrier is a problem.”
After much thought, Ye Nai couldn’t find a solution to the massive time difference and had to note it down in her notebook to revisit later.
Then, her gaze fell on the stainless steel bowl.
