Enemies Are All Nourishment for My Fungi-Chapter 297 - : Scavenging the Otherworld Military Fortress
Chapter 297: Chapter 297: Scavenging the Otherworld Military Fortress
After five hours of weariness, she had to taste what the little white mushrooms were like.
Water boiled on the stove, she cleaned a basin of little white mushrooms, plunged them into the boiling water to soften, scooped them out, passed them under cold water to drain, took out a plateful, mixed them simply with cold sauce, and took a bite.
The first bite was astonishing.
“It contains energy, slightly more than what the edamame had.”
“In places abundant with energy, the quality of crops is also higher.”
She took another bite.
“Better than enoki mushrooms, they can be chewed through.”
Then the third bite.
“They’re quite tasty when mixed cold.”
“When there’s nothing else to do, I can gather more to eat as a dish.”
Ye Nai ate half a plate of little white mushrooms in one go before putting down her chopsticks, took out a packet of soup noodles from her food reserves, added the mushrooms, mixed them, and continued eating.
After eating her fill and taking a bath, Ye Nai took a frontal photo in the mirror above the washbasin to see if she had aged at all in comparison to herself.
Then she returned to the Otherworld, right there in the little meadow, and took out a two-story house to rest.
A thick mat of fungus in the soil built an invisible protective wall, killing off many nocturnal predators that came to hunt that night, airborne, land-based, or burrowers; anything that dared approach became food for the Fungal Mycelium.
Ye Nai slept undisturbed for a night.
Awakened by the sunlight, she noted down the current time, waiting to see what time it would be when it got dark, to check how much the hand-watch’s timing differed from the rotation of this Otherworld.
She had forgotten to do this yesterday, but remembering today wasn’t too late.
She took out a portable toilet to brush teeth, wash face, have breakfast, and after packing up, she was ready to set off.
As she subconsciously looked around, she suddenly noticed a massive amount of light spots indicating the presence of altars in one direction.
Ye Nai thought her eyes were playing tricks on her, rubbed them, looked up again, and the light spots were still there, not a single one missing, neatly arranged.
“There’s an altar base here?!”
“How wonderful!”
“I was wondering why the first portal I opened was in the primeval forest; I thought it was miles away. It turns out I misunderstood. It’s actually nearby.”
Ye Nai immediately got excited, wanting to accomplish everything in one step.
But after thinking it over, she decided not to get too worked up and to stick to the original plan. Let the spores go for the altar while she ensured her own safety and waited to reap the benefits.
Once the decision was made, the light spots of those altars began to disappear one after another.
In Ye Nai’s Space, altars started emerging one after another.
Each altar that just came in was immediately enveloped tightly by an abundance of fungus, concealing its original form.
However, Ye Nai could clearly sense the energy of the altars rapidly depleting, being devoured by the fungus, seizing the power of the Magic Patterns, and replacing the Magic Patterns.
After about fifteen minutes, no more altars were incoming; simultaneously, the first few altars that came in started to disintegrate one after another, turning into a pile of residues, collected together with the remains of their predecessors in a fungal compartment.
The Space Fungus’s speed of absorbing energy had also increased.
Without moving an inch, Ye Nai collected a bunch of altars, smiling so broadly her mouth could hardly close.
She was prepared to return to the East Ridge Secret Realm at any moment if she started to feel unwell, but after sitting for quite a while, until the altar in the Space began to crumble, nothing happened to her.
Thus, feeling emboldened, she used Space Teleportation and went to check out that altar site.
She cautiously landed on the edge of the forest, and through the trees, she saw a massive Military Fortress not far away, with its gates wide open and unguarded. The walls were in chaos, with Enemy Soldiers running to and fro, some peering out from the battlements into the distance.
Through a telescope, Ye Nai observed the Enemy Soldiers on the walls; they were all in a panic, like headless flies, which was quite amusing to watch.
She still didn’t move but commanded the spores to attack and kill everyone inside the Military Fortress.
At her command, she saw through the telescope the panicked Enemy Soldiers collapsing limply on the walls, as if they were drunk.
Only then did Ye Nai use Space Teleportation and in one step, arrived on the walls.
Ignoring the corpses of the Enemy Soldiers strewn on the ground, she walked to the opposite wall and looked out from a higher vantage point.
The familiar square plaza was still there, but the ground was now pockmarked with neatly arranged large pits.
Obviously, there had been something in those pits. Ye Nai counted the number of pits, six by five, making a total of thirty, which matched the number of altars she had acquired in the Space.
It was only then that she used the spores to collect the bodies from various places into the Space and then dumped them all into the plaza below, a casualty number easily in the hundreds.
She didn’t count exactly how many, but amongst the soldiers, Ye Nai found several men and women wearing different garments.
Of course, at this point, they were also corpses.
Ye Nai separated the bodies again, moving these men and women to one corner of the plaza and went down for a closer examination.
These men and women all had calloused hands and wore poor-quality and crude clothing. The fabric felt thin and flimsy, not as durable and well-made as the underclothes of the Enemy Soldiers.
“You’re kidding, right? With a time difference of 3000 years, this is still the living standard of the common people?”

Ye Nai released the body, finding it hard to believe and thinking that she needed to observe more to understand the lives of the general populace better.
The bodies of the Enemy Soldiers were collected into the Space to be exchanged for points later; civilian corpses were left on the main road outside the Military Fortress to see if anyone would come to claim them.
The spores scavenged all over for her and not only found the storeroom but also discovered a box of thirty vibrantly colored Mutant Beast Heart Cores in a large office.
Thinking about it, getting thirty altars all at once, with one Heart Core corresponding to one altar as the energy key for the channels, made sense.
However, if that was the case, the double-sided altar she had robbed at Blue Star yielded two Heart Cores, so what’s the correlation? Was the extra one a spare, or merely a collector’s item?
This thought spun in Ye Nai’s head for a moment before dissipating. The people were dead by her hand, so why bother with such thoughts? She just needed to know that these high-quality Mutant Beast Heart Cores were also valuable to her.
But, well, she was here now, and Heart Cores alone were not enough to satisfy her anymore. To move within the Otherworld, she needed money as well.
After spending some time on further searches, she opened a safe in the bedroom of the Supreme Commander of the Military Fortress and obtained several hefty bags of money, containing gold, silver, and copper coins.
With this physical cash as a sample, the spores found a larger sum of public funds in other rooms of the Military Fortress.
All of it was now Ye Nai’s money.
Back in the plaza, taking advantage of the quiet moment, she decided to sort out the looted materials.
The materials she had gathered from the Military Fortress were mainly food, daily necessities, and weapons, and within that, there were a variety of items, both big and small.
Ye Nai categorized them and threw them into the large pits scattered across the ground.
Indeed, these thirty large pits were surprisingly handy for organizing stuff.
While she was busy, the spores on guard outside the city gate sent back feedback that someone was approaching.
Not long after, Ye Nai heard sharp and pitiful screams.
