Blaze didn't wait for the maid to complete her explanation as he hung up and sprinted towards the elevator, almost bumping into a male nurse and a patient in a wheelchair who came out into the hallway unexpectedly.

"Hey watch it, sir." The male nurse quickly rolled his patient out of harm's way.

"Sorry," Blaze said without turning back to look at the mature woman in the wheelchair scowling at him.

A sense of helplessness and dread suddenly overwhelmed Blaze as he reached the elevator in time while dialling the hospital emergency number with trembling hands.

Pressing the elevator call button repeatedly, with his phone pressed to his ear, Blaze started praying silently for his mother, his reddened eyes filled with horror.

It felt as though history was about to repeat itself as memories of his father collapsing from a cardiac arrest, shortly before his death, shrouded his mind, causing goosebumps to appear all over his body.

He couldn't believe he had allowed his anger to cloud his thoughts, thus preventing him from learning about his mother's poor health before things got out of hand.

He felt like punching himself in the face for being so reckless with his only surviving parent, who meant the entire world to him.

"Why the f*ck is it taking so long to come up?" Blaze hissed angrily, almost punching the elevator call button.

Unable to wait for the elevator to arrive, Blaze decided to take the emergency stairs, while waiting for the call to connect.

"Hospital emergency line, please how may..."

"Please, send help. My mom is a type one diabetic and she just passed out at our home. I have no idea of her current state because I'm far away from her. Send the ambulance immediately." Blaze said in a slightly raised and trembling voice, giving the feminine voice on the other end of the phone full details of his home address.

"I will dispatch an ambulance right away, sir. But please can I get the number of someone close to her? We need to know her current state."

"Okay." Blaze thought briefly before giving up the mansion Butler's number, knowing that Eugene might have stepped out of the mansion for the gym.

Scaling down sixteen fleets of stairs without breaking a sweat, Blaze arrived at the hospital reception in less than two minutes. He hurried out of the busy hospital reception, barely acknowledging some familiar faces of hospital staff who were greeting him.

Outside the hospital building, Blaze could hear the departing blaring sound of the hospital ambulance siren as he sprinted across the driveway towards the hospital parking lot, while dialling Eugene's mobile number.

Blaze was too preoccupied, trying to get to his car that he did not notice a tinted BMW,: neatly packed on the right wing at the first row opposite his car. Neither did he notice the disguised driver behind the wheel, staring delightedly at him.

Luckily for Blaze, Eugene picked up on the first ring.

"Hey bro, we've been trying to reach you all morning. What happened to..."

"Where the hell are you, Eugene?" Blaze demanded in a slightly raised voice as he got into the car signaling the driver to move.

"Where to sir?" The chauffeur asked, pulling out onto the driveway while wondering why the boss was looking so agitated as opposed to his cold but calm self.

Blaze peeled the phone from his ear and said.

"Home. Drive like your life depends on it."

"Yes, sir."

"Hello...big bro, are you there?" Eugene's voice echoed from the phone speaker.

Blaze brought the phone back to his ear. "You haven't answered my question. Where are you? Are you still at the mansion or have you gone to the gym?"

"No. I... I'm with Amelia. Why are you..."

"I said where not who?" Blaze thundered impatiently between clenched jaw.

"Bro, please don't get angry for what I'm about to say. I know it might piss you off but just hear me out first." Eugene pleaded.

"I'm listening." Blaze's anger flared, replacing his initial anxiety knowing that whatever Eugene was about to say wouldn't be pleasant.

"Earlier, after you left the mansion, sister-in-law was trying to catch up with you. She was greatly distraught when she couldn't get to you. She was even crying and bruised her knee in the process of chasing after your car."

"She did!" Blaze's forehead furrowed, unaware of this.

"Yes. It seemed she had something important to say to you. We even tried calling you but you never took your calls. So Mom suggested that sister-in-law and I should go to your office to see you in person. We were on our way to your company when sister-in-law got a call from her father asking her to come urgently. So we are currently at the Shawls mansion. She's inside discussing with her father while I'm outside waiting by the car."

Blaze's rigid countenance turned explosive upon hearing that Amelia was currently with her father while his mother was lying unconscious back at home. Something told him that the senator might be aware of his daughter's condition and had kept it a secret just like her. He resisted the urge to lash out angrily at his cousin for going with Amelia to her father's, seeing that she had tried reaching out to him first.

At least, if he had returned, his mother's earlier calls, he would have known that she wasn't feeling okay. Also, if he had returned his wife's call, he would have known what she wanted to discuss and probably things wouldn't have turned out this way.

"Big bro, are you still there?" Eugene asked when Blaze fell silent.

"Yes. Did Amelia say anything to you or mom?"

"No, she said she wanted to talk to you first before she spoke to Mom."

A sigh of relief escaped Blaze's lips as he said,

"I received a call not quite long ago that mom passed out."

"What!" Eugene half screamed over the phone. "When did this happen? She was perfectly fine when we left her. Is she alright? Is it serious?"

"I don't know, Eugene." Blaze gritted his teeth in deep agony. "I wasn't there when it happened. However, I have alerted the Hospital emergency department and I believe the ambulance should be at the mansion as we speak. Please go into that mansion and inform my wife about Mom's current state. I need you both back at the mansion."

"Okay, big bro. You can count on us. We'll be with you shortly."
