Approximately twelve minutes before the SOS call...

Dr Ashley had just arrived at the hospital a few minutes ago and was busy at her office accessing a patient file, in preparation for a surgical procedure.

Slipping on her lab coat and hanging her stethoscope on her neck, she picked up the file she was reading earlier and headed for the door when it was suddenly pushed open almost hitting her in the face.

"Excuse me! How dare...Mr Anderson!" Dr Ashley, who was about to reprimand the mannerless intruder who didn't know how to knock found herself frozen and speechless at the sight of Amelia's husband.

The way his eyes blazed as he glared dangerously at her with a predatory intent made a cold shiver run down her spine.

"I'm sorry, doctor. I tried to stop him." A young-looking nurse appeared behind Blaze, fidgeting.

"It's okay, Nurse Ariel. Go back to your station. I'll handle this."

"Yes, doctor." The nurse scurried off, happy to be as far away as possible from the angry-looking man, while wondering what the good doctor had done to attract such a dangerous man to her office.

"We need to talk right now," Blaze said between clenched jaws as he walked past the doctor, taking a long stride to her desk as if he owned the hospital.

"This is not good." Dr Ashley muttered under her breath as she slowly closed the door, a million and one thoughts running through her mind all at the same time. She watched as the calm but angry-looking young man pulled out a seat opposite her desk and sat down, crossing his legs, one over the other, while resting his interlocked hands on his lap.

'Probably Amelia has told him about her pregnancy and he has come here to vent his frustrations.' Dr Ashley pondered as she made her way slowly to her seat, dropping the file and her stethoscope on her desk. She took in a deep breath and sat down, plastering a placid smile on her face.

"You're welcome Mr Anderson, even though I wasn't expecting you. I would like to plead with you that whatever we need to discuss should be done quickly because I have to be in the theatre in the next..." Dr Ashley took a quick glance at the time on her leather wristwatch. "... ten to fifteen minutes."

"I have no intention of spending more than five minutes here," Blaze said, his face a mask of fury and his eyes narrowed to slits.

"All I need are answers and depending on your response, you might never be able to work in this hospital or any other medical establishment in this country. And as a bonus, you might end up in a wheelchair for the rest of your life. So it will be in your best interest to tell me the truth and nothing less. Have I made myself clear?"

Dr Ashley broke out in cold sweat, her eyes widened like a saucer, and her jaws dropped as she processed Blaze's threat while looking into the devil's eyes. She could tell he meant business and she wasn't willing to test the troubled waters.

"Crystal."

"Good. First question, is my wife pregnant?"

Dr Ashley nodded, her body trembling as she finally understood why Amelia had been so scared of her husband. The man is indeed a nightmare.

"I need to hear your words, doctor. Do not test my patience." Blaze growled in a repressed voice.

"Yes, she is."

"How many weeks or months?"

"Seven...no eight weeks and two days according to my calculation."

Blaze's heart kept slamming against his ribcage as he did a mental calculation to determine where and when this pregnancy might have taken place.

"Did she know about it before you discovered she was pregnant?"

"I can't say for sure but it seemed she didn't realize she was pregnant until I told her." Dr Ashley explained truthfully.

"Is the pregnancy responsible for all her vomiting episodes amongst other symptoms?"

"Partly. She does have a food allergy and intolerance, which was instigated by her pregnancy."

Blaze gritted his teeth in rage.

"Why did you keep it from me even after I asked you severally if there was any other underlying issue?"

At this point, Dr Ashley could feel her walls crumbling as her heart began to ache with regret and the guilt of betrayal.

"I'm sorry, Mr Anderson. I know I haven't been completely honest with you. I know I may have overstepped my boundaries but I had reasons to. As a doctor, when a patient is distressed by an information, I'm obliged to advise and provide psychosocial care through counselling and patient confidentiality."

Blaze's deadpan expression remained unchanged as the doctor explained further.

"When your wife first found out that she was pregnant, she was greatly traumatized by it. From her reaction and her explanation, it was obvious she didn't plan for it. She was even considering terminating the pregnancy but I advised her against that, knowing the negative impact it could have on her reproductive system. She pleaded with me not to say anything to you until she was ready with a decision and I gave her my words."

"Hmm..." Blaze chuckled bitterly. "You gave how your words. How thoughtful."

"I'm sincerely sorry sir." Dr Ashley pleaded, clasping both hands. "Please pardon me."

Looking sideways, his heart aching worse than before, Blaze asked.

"Did she say anything about who might be responsible for the pregnancy?"

"Yes, sir," Dr Ashley said confidently, causing Blaze to snap his head back at her.

"Who?" Blaze boomed in a low suppressed voice.

"You, sir. She said you were responsible for her pregnancy."

Blaze let out a bitter mockery laughter that shook Dr Ashley to the bone.

"I'm telling the truth, sir."

At that moment, Blaze's phone started ringing again. Thinking it was Amelia just like the previous missed calls, he ignored it as he asked.

"Who was around when you and my wife were discussing this issue?"

Dr Ashley shook her head. "No one." But when a vein bulged out from the side of Blaze's stiffened neck, she explained further.

"When I first told her that she was pregnant, one of my nurses was around in the room but I discharged her knowing that this was a private talk."

"Did you or your nurse by any chance reveal this information to anyone?"

"No, sir. We will never do such a thing. I can vouch for myself and the nurse in question. We always prioritize patient's confidentially."

"Don't tell me ..."

Blaze's phone started ringing again, interrupting him.

Holding back his fury, he picked up the phone only to see that it was his mom calling. Taking a deep breath to stifle his rage, he swiped the receive button, and brought the phone to his ear, expecting his mom to lash out angrily at him for not returning her previous missed call.

But surprisingly, his mom didn't say a word.

"Mom... Are you there? Speak to me." Blaze waited for his mom to talk while Dr Ashley took this few seconds of freedom to gulp in enough air into her lungs while hoping for the best.

When Blaze heard the distant cry of someone from the background screaming madam, he instantly knew something bad had happened to his mother.

Without saying a single word to the doctor he stood up and dashed out of the office while speaking into the phone.

"Somebody talk to me. Mom!" Blaze got to his car just in time when he heard the lousy voice of a maid saying the madam had passed out.
