Harem Incubus System: I Broke Supernatural Beauties With Earthly Kinks-Chapter 36: Confrontation
"I took the Spirit Caster’s entrance Exams."
Silence.
His mother stopped with her fork in mid-air, her eyes widening for a second. When he said he took the Spirit Caster’s exam, she didn’t look at him. Instead, she slowly set the fork down and wiped her mouth with a napkin, keeping her eyes fixed anywhere but on him.
"I know."
Her answer hit him like a speeding truck that was always responsible for yeeting people into another life. She knew?
His heart pounded, and for a moment he couldn’t breathe. This situation was even more scarier than his first encounter with a supernatural being that wanted nothing more but to end him.
"Y—You did?" He stuttered. What was more frightening was her reaction, if it was back then, she’d be threatening him with a disownment letter. But now? She was so calm that it sent chills down his spine.
"I found it strange that your school would send you a letter when you haven’t even gone through half the semester yet. I thought it was a suspension letter given how stubborn and careless you are, but to my surprise..." She chuckled, almost out of disbelief.
"It was a letter from the goddamn Spirit Casters academy." Finally, she looked at her son. And Mason saw it, the disappointment, the eyes of one who had been betrayed by their most cherished comrade.
"Mom..." That was all he could say, he had no explanations, no words that could explain why he betrayed his own mother.
His mother sighed, then put the napkin down on the table before turning to face her son. "Why?" That was all she could say, what was so important to him that he, her only son would go against her wishes and join the very thing that took her husband away from her?
Silence.
For a moment, Mason didn’t know what to say. Back then, he didn’t have a genuine reason to join the academy, and of course he couldn’t tell her about the Incubus System. But now? Now it was a different story.
Now that the truth about his bloodline was revealed to him, his father — The Primordial Demon King, and he the son of the Primordial Demon king. There was now a reason to.
"Dad." He said.
"Huh?" His mother didn’t understand what he was trying to say.
"I refuse to believe that’s there is to Dad’s disappearance." Originally, they thought he was killed in action, but now that he figured out that he had disappeared more than once, it wasn’t a mere coincidence. From his perspective, it looked like he was running from something to have disappeared from two races in a row, something that even the Primordial demon king feared.
"The only way I can find out the truth behind dad’s disappearance, is by becoming a spirit caster. I’m sorry mom, but this scar dad’s disappearance left behind. It will never heal as long as we are oblivious to the truth."
He stood up from the table, and cleaned his mouth with a napkin. "I know you’re angry, but in order for us to move forward, this is something I have to do."
His mother stayed quiet, and the empty look in her eyes said everything. No mother would be happy knowing her child was stepping into a dangerous world with no promise they would return alive.
Her silence was her response, and with that, Mason simply closed his eyes, and turned away from the table. He hoped she would understand, but the only way he could get stronger to uncover the truth behind his father’s disappearance and protect her was to become a spirit caster.
"Wait." Before he could take a step forward, her voice stopped him.
He turned around and saw her sigh softly.
"Damn it, even back then I had to tell him not to become a caster, you really have your father’s blood in you."
"Yeah... In more ways than you could imagine." Mason whispered.
"What was that?"
"N—Nothing."
His mother stood to her feet and approached him, then she looked up at him. It was confusing at first, because it felt as if he had grown even taller than before.
"I really can’t stop you from becoming a caster can I?"
"Sorry mom, but this is something that I have to do."
His mother stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him, letting out a long, tired sigh. "Then promise me, promise me you’ll take care of yourself out there." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Mason hesitated for a moment, because after the kind of situations he found himself in this past week, he wasn’t sure he could accurately fulfill that promise.
But he softly hugged her back, holding her the same way she held him. "I promise."
She immediately withdrew with a bit of tears dripping down her eyes, then she wiped them off. "Okay, I’ll take your word for it, after all you are my son."
She returned to her seat and picked up her fork. "Alright enough about that, let’s eat while the food is still hot."
..
The next morning arrived as quickly as the night passed, Mason had already taken his bath and brushed his teeth. Thankfully, the casters academy wasn’t like a boarding school, it was a day school so he could always return home.
His mother had already left for work, but made sure to wish him, scold him and do all the necessary things to make sure he behaves himself on the first day of a new journey.
"This wasn’t the way I envisioned getting into the academy, but at least it’ll have to do. The only bloodline ability I have that can even remotely be considered an ability that stems from spiritual energy in the human race is telekinesis. At least, I’ll have the opportunity to level up other abilities that don’t require those kind of quests."
He stepped out of the house with a pair of polished black shoes, a clean white shirt, black trousers and a black school bag hanging over his shoulder.
He took a deep breath and took in the fresh morning air, then stared at the sky and said with a smug. "The Spirit Caster’s Academy, here I come."
