Chapter 210: The Truth of Damien’s Magic

However, Damien was still somewhat confused about what was happening.

"Teacher, what is this light sphere?" Theo asked, clearly unfamiliar with the term.

"Well, rather than explaining, let’s just show you," Elyon replied with a chuckle.

With that, Elyon stepped further away from the crystal and placed his hand in front of it.

In an instant, the crystal began to shine with dazzling light.

The light was even more blinding than when Damien had used it, making it difficult to see, but he could still make out a light sphere about a meter in diameter forming around the crystal.

"When an elf performs a magic power assessment, a light sphere is formed without exception," Elyon explained. "That is what we call the light sphere."

Damien and Theo stared at the light sphere, both of them stunned.

Damien’s eyes hurt from staring at the blinding light for too long.

He had been so surprised that he kept staring at the light sphere until Elyon stopped raising his hand.

He was so shocked that he forgot how dazzling the light was.

"So, does this mean Damien is an elf?" Theo asked, furrowing his brow as if trying to process everything.

Damien was also curious. What about that, exactly? 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"Not necessarily," Elyon replied.

Damien and Theo were both slightly taken aback.

"It is certain, though, that Damien has a different kind of magic from the four elements possessed by lower races. It’s what elves call ’true magic,’" Elyon explained.

"’True magic’... that’s a new one for me," Theo remarked.

"Well, elves don’t typically explain such things to lower races. Since it’s magic that only elves possess, there’s no point in explaining it," Elyon added.

Indeed, even if someone were taught about it, they would need the cooperation of elves for any kind of confirmation or experimentation, so it probably wasn’t worth teaching in the first place.

But more importantly, the fact that it was magic unique to elves meant that—

"However, that doesn’t mean Damien is automatically an elf," Elyon continued. "He lacks something that should be inherent in all elves."

"What? Really?" Damien was taken aback.

Theo thought for a moment before suddenly coming to a realization.

"Is it... the magic name?" Theo asked.

"Yes, that’s right. Elves always have a magic name from birth. It’s not the same as the name given by their parents; it’s the soul’s name, possessed by elves as semi-magical beings," Elyon explained.

Damien couldn’t recall having such a name.

"At first, I thought the name Damien was using might be his magic name, but seeing Damien’s reaction, it seems that’s not the case. You’ve never felt like you were called by a name when I wasn’t around, or sensed that I was thinking about something, have you?" Elyon asked.

"Ah... no, I don’t think so," Damien replied.

Damien suddenly remembered that Elyon’s... elf magic name allowed a telepathic connection with those he shared it with. He had introduced himself to people by name, but he didn’t feel any such connection.

"That said, Damien has true magic, but it doesn’t seem like he’s an elf. However, since he doesn’t possess the four elemental types of magic that all humans should have, he probably isn’t human either," Elyon explained.

"...So, what exactly is Damien then?" Theo asked.

Not an elf, not a human.

What was Damien then?

"I don’t know," Elyon shrugged. "Well, in the end, he must be from another world."

With that, Elyon laughed and said, "Well, well, what a predicament!"

Damien and Theo exchanged wry smiles. It seemed that, in the end, Damien was still considered some kind of mysterious being from another world.

Hmm? Wait a minute.

Although he wasn’t sure if he was considered human or elf in this world, it was clear that his magic was the same as the elves’.

"Could it be that I can use your magic, Elyon?" Damien asked.

"Ah, yes, you can," Elyon replied casually.

"What!?"

Hearing this, Theo seemed even more surprised than Damien.

"I see. The accepted belief is that ’humans can’t use elf magic,’ so I never considered that possibility. But if Damien has the same magic power, then he should be able to use elf magic!" Theo said, sounding a bit excited.

Damien couldn’t help but get a little excited himself.

Could this mean he was on the verge of becoming the ultimate magic user? The dream of becoming a supreme mage was within reach again!?

"...Ah, wait, though, Elyon, Damien couldn’t even produce a magic sigil," Theo added.

Ah, right, if someone has magic power, they should be able to manifest a sigil. But Damien hadn’t been able to do that.

"That’s because it was a chant for humans, right? That wouldn’t work," Elyon explained.

With that, Elyon raised his hand in front of him.

"Our elf magic is different," he said. "We use magic power to connect to the secondary mechanism, Machina."

A luminous, intricate sigil appeared at the tip of Elyon’s raised hand.

Damien was in awe.

The sigil Elyon had shown him earlier was much more intricate than the one Theo had shown him.

...Sorry, but the only thoughts he could muster were how detailed and beautiful it was.

If someone more knowledgeable about magic were there, they would probably have more insightful thoughts—like Theo, for example.

"Teacher’s sigil is so detailed and beautiful," Theo remarked.

That wasn’t quite the case, though.

Still, since Elyon had a pleased expression on his face, Damien assumed that was the right response.

"Well, that’s how it works. Now, give it a try."

"Ah, for Damien, the incantation will be translated too, so please remove the necklace and try again."

"I see."

Right, that was it.

Damien stood up from the chair and removed the necklace.

He was feeling nervous now.

"■■■■■■■■"

Following Elyon’s example, Damien stretched out his hand and recited the incantation.

It appeared.

At the tip of his outstretched hand, a dazzling magic sigil of his own power shone brightly.

...Was it the Sun?
