Chapter 211: The Ticklish Sigil

However, it was just a simple, perfect circle.

It wasn’t anything like the intricate and detailed sigils Theo or Elyon had; it was just a circle.

But it was a beautiful circle.

Even though this was the first time he’d ever "used" magic.

It wasn’t quite what he’d imagined.

Within a few seconds, the sigil vanished as quickly as it had appeared, so Damien put the necklace back on.

"It... It was such a beautiful circle!"

Theo rushed over to comfort him, and behind her, Elyon was laughing uncontrollably.

"Could it be used as a light source?" Damien asked, trying to stay positive.

"Pfft!"

Theo burst into laughter, and Damien was left feeling embarrassed.

It was tough.

...

After Damien fell into a proper slump, the two of them worked together to console him.

Elyon’s comment that "I’ve never seen such a simple sigil before" may not have been much of a comfort, but Damien decided to take it as a kind gesture.

"Well, this confirms that you can use elf magic," Elyon said.

That was something to be happy about, but... When Damien used magic, meaning when he recited an incantation, a magic sigil would appear for both Theo and Elyon, as well as for Leonide and the others.

Normally, it would disappear so quickly that there wouldn’t be enough time to observe it, but it always appeared once at the start of the incantation.

It was incredibly cool, but...

A circle.

Damien’s sigil was a circle.

Ah, he was starting to feel down again.

No matter how much magic he could use, it seemed like the path to becoming a cool wizard wasn’t meant for him.

"Don’t be so down," Elyon said. "I like you just the way you are."

"Exactly, exactly," Theo added. "You’re so honest and cute, it’s very much like you, Damien."

The two of them continued to comfort him.

He shouldn’t let something like this get him down.

After all, he had proven that he could use magic. He should be moving forward.

"Yeah, I’ll try not to worry about it. Anyway, teach me some magic, even something simple!"

After all, Damien could now use the magic of the elves, a race said to be incredibly powerful in this world.

Finally, the time for his magic cheat-mode was began.

"Very well, then. I’ll teach you a spell that even children among elves can use. It’s a simple one that automatically constructs the magic circuit, so as long as you recite the incantation correctly, you’ll be able to use it," Elyon said.

"Wow! Thanks! Please teach me, teacher!" Damien said, excitement bubbling up inside him. He didn’t even notice that Theo was looking at him with a slightly puzzled expression.

"Alright, then. I’ll teach you the incantation, so take off your necklace again."

Damien nodded and removed the necklace as instructed.

"■■■■■■"

Elyon gave a short incantation, and in an instant, a magic sigil appeared, with two lights floating inside it.

I see, it’s a light spell, Damien thought. It might be simple, but it was a useful spell for many situations.

Alright, time to try it.

Taking a deep breath, Damien prepared himself. He then recited the incantation exactly as Elyon had done.

"■■■■"

A perfectly round magic sigil appeared briefly in front of Damien before vanishing immediately.

Then, before he could finish the incantation, he felt something running through his body, sending a strange tingling sensation throughout him.

"Ahh! Ah-hahaha!"

Damien suddenly burst out laughing uncontrollably, unable to stop himself from laughing at the sensation of something he’d never felt before—like his entire body was being tickled from the inside. He laughed so much, he couldn’t even recognize the sound of his own voice.

It was hard to tell how long it took for the ticklish sensation to subside.

Had it lasted for several minutes, or was it over in just a few seconds?

The overwhelming ticklishness had distorted Damien’s sense of time.

Even after the laughter stopped, he was utterly drained, unable to get back on his feet.

Now he truly understood the concept of laughter as a form of torture.

If this kept up, he thought, it could genuinely be deadly.

"Are you alright, Damien?"

Theo, who had been supporting Damien, leaned in close to check his face with a worried expression.

There was a red mark on her cheek, likely from Damien’s flailing while he was laughing uncontrollably.

"S-sorry about that. Are you okay? Does it hurt?" Damien asked, gently brushing his fingers over the red spot.

He hoped it wouldn’t leave a mark.

"I’m fine," Theo said with a soft smile. "It just grazed me a little. But really, are you alright?"

"Yeah, I’m fine now. I don’t feel anything weird anymore. I’m just a little bit weak from flailing around, but I should be able to stand up in a bit," Damien assured her, though his body still felt like jelly.

Theo let out a sigh of relief, visibly relaxing as she saw Damien recovering.

Then, his expression sharpened, and he turned toward Elyon, his usual calm voice now filled with intensity. "Teacher, what exactly was that?"

It was rare for Theo to speak to Elyon in such a demanding tone.

Elyon, for his part, looked equally serious, deep in thought.

"...This is just a theory," Elyon began, prefacing his explanation carefully.

"We elves have bodies that are composed partially of physical matter and partially of magical energy, forming what you could call a semi-magical body."

Damien vaguely remembered Elyon mentioning something like this before.

It explained why Elyon was unusually light and had traits that differed from humans in significant ways.

"Because of this," Elyon continued, "our spellcasting incorporates our semi-magical bodies into the construction of our magical circuits. This allows us to handle vast amounts of magical energy and to build complex circuits with ease.

"However," he added, narrowing his eyes as he considered the implications, "when a human without a magical body attempts to construct circuits designed for elves, the result might be what we just witnessed—an intense ticklish sensation throughout the body."
