I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 153: You have a long vacation
Chapter 153: You have a long vacation
"Ahhhh!" Sage screamed and the space in front of him opened, allowing him to fall through.
Lana laughed, allowing the 2-meter snake to slither into her arms.
"Shhh!" Came the harsh warning from the librarian and Lana nodded at her, carrying the long snake, she moved away to another spot where they would not be seen, towards the back of the bookshelf. She continued in a lower voice, teaching the snake.
"Good one. You got him good. Once someone bites you, you have to bite them harder, or else they will not leave you alone, alright."
"What bout Malik’s instructions that you should not teach any of your ideals to Asher?" A small, dark purple gap appeared in the window and a head of red hair popped out, a disgruntled expression on his face.
"Malik is not here, is he?"
"If..No when he makes you run mad, I am going to inherit your basement room and redecorate it into a gaming den. I would name it, ’Paradise."
"I can totally take Malik in a fight and you are not allowed into my room, If I see your grubby..."
The snake shook for a second before a young teen in a light gray crew neck t-shirt and dark-washed jeans appeared in place of the snake. He sighed like an old man, "Sage. I heard that the library got new comics today. Do you want to check them out? Lana, about the Vespa Mandarinia, is it really that dangerous?"
There was nothing that distracted Lana more than biology, "Of course. It is native to Shogun, but we still see some of them in Avalon on rare occasions. It is this big...around 2 inches and has yellow and brown stripes kinda like the hornet bee. They are so dangerous because their venom contains a powerful neurotoxin called melittin. It would cause severe pain, swelling, and redness and can lead to anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction that can cause kidney failure and even death."
"Death? So it is very powerful."
"Of course. I think you should try to shape-shift into it next, it is small, dangerous and you can fly. The perfect getaway creature, don’t you think? That damned Anouk, my lab back in the Capital. I had the most beautiful mutated Vespa Mandarinia there. I crossbred them with the Destin Bees in one of the Nests around the Capital. Powerful, powerful, much more venomous and the speed is something else. It is truly a pity, it would be perfect for you, Ash."
"Asher. Don’t call me Ash."
Lana did not think much about it, unlike Sage who would make it his next activity to call him that exact thing.
"Who is Anouk, you said Anouk, is he your boyfriend?"
"I would rather die." Lana spat out with venom. She would rather date Malik himself than date that straight-laced hero and that is saying something.
"You don’t like him?"
Lana stretched out her legs, folding the biology textbook in her hand, "Let me explain, when you open your fridge, what do you see?"
Asher was confused, "Strawberry milk, soy milk."
"You have your soy milk?"
Asher nodded, "Ravi always makes it for me. I like it."
Lana licked her lips, she just had to taste the soy milk when she reached home. She reached into her bag for her phone, placing it on the table after checking the time, still 2 hours to get home.
"You were saying something about the fridge." Asher kindly reminded her.
Lana nodded, "Yes, aside from the foods, and what you can eat. What else do you see in the fridge."
"Ice cubes."
"Exactly, Anouk is a..big ice cube. Except this ice cube is wicked and cruel and thoroughly evil."
"Didn’t Sage say he was a hero?" Asher could remember him seeing something about Malik going to stalk his hero boyfriend. He intended to pry a bit from Lana about it but all he got was completely opposite from what Sage said, he was a little confused. It was almost as if they were talking about two different people.
"What does he know? If not for him, your big sister here would have so much money. I could buy you anything you want but I can not afford a Genomic Sterilizer I had ten just a year ago and now I can’t buy one. Just think of all the good I could be doing." She sighed, "Anyway. Not that this is bad. Read up on this text, from here to here. I would quiz you in forty minutes. Besides, is it not time for us to have lunch?"
"Thirty more minutes." Sage did not look at the phone. Picking up his pencil as he pulled the history textbook closer, making some notes as he read.
Thirty minutes later, he put down the pencil and looked at Lana who was completely concentrating on the book she was reading like she had not read it at all.
Asher smiled and he nudged her, "I am done. After the quiz, we can have lunch."
Lana nodded and she dropped her book, pulling his own textbook to her, she swiftly glanced at it and began to set questions not taking even more than five minutes before she handed it to him.
"How did the Industrial Revolution change society and the economy?"
Asher bit the pencil, he wanted to work hard, and he wanted to pass all his examinations. It was not just so Ravi could smile, it was also for him, he wanted to go to school and both the teachers and the students would like him and none of them would think that he was a freak or that he was weird.
A clean slate. Malik had told him, this was his opportunity for a clean slate. He wanted to make good use of it.
When he was done, he passed his answer sheet to Lana, who sat down cross-legged and began to mark them. Despite her always forgetting things and going off track, when she was teaching him, she was calm, concentrating on his answer sheet and writing down the correct answers to the one that he failed.
Lana would make a good teacher one day. Maybe. He was not sure. It was not like he had any other teacher to compare her to.
When she gave him back his paper, someone snatched it away.
The purple gap appeared above them and Sage slipped out onto the table.
"You should be careful where you use your laity. Should I remind you that you are also wanted by Interpol?"
Sage rolled his eyes, "Me. I don’t know what you are talking about. The two of you kidnapped me and forced me to do all kinds of stuff. I just wanted to go home." He sniffled, his tone so convincing that Asher almost felt pity for him.
He rolled his eyes and snatched back his paper from Sage, there was a huge 60% on the paper. He looked at it for a few seconds and his eyes gleamed.
Sage smiled at him, "At this rate, you would write my college entrance examination for me. Good job, brat."
Asher chuckled and looked at Lana who nodded at him.
"Are we going out for lunch, I nab....I was given fifty dollars by a gentleman, we can go out to eat. My treat."
"I brought lunch."
Asher opened his bag carefully, taking about the three bottles of smoothie and giving one to each of them. He took out three boxes.
He was the one who packed their lunches, placing them carefully in their boxes as Ravi watched him. The top player of the lunch was neatly lined with a fried egg roll. The largest column had steaming rice and the round column with a cover was filled with fish sauce. Other small columns had sweet corn, steamed vegetables, crispy pork, and small-cut strawberries from the farm.
The bright white, yellow, red, and green colors are mixed together, making the box look particularly inviting.
"Wow! Did Ravi pack this?" Lana said, "I want to..."
"Don’t say it."
"He has someone he likes." Both Asher and Sage said at the same time and they looked at each other before a loud laughter came out of their lips.
Lana did not spare them any other glance when she saw the food.
Asher also began to eat, starting with the crisp pork, his favorite. He dipped it into a small sauce and ate happily. It was really so delicious.
The fresh vegetables were delicious and went well with the light egg roll and the fish sauce. The delightful taste filled his lips and cheeks.
Maybe he should study how to become a manager. When Ravi retires, Ravi can cook and he will sell the food, and manage the restaurant. The thought made him smile.
Asher was not the kind to think about the future. But nowadays, he has been thinking more and more of the future and of himself., What does he want, what does he like, what would he like to be?
The phone on the table rang and Lana ignored it. It rang again and she swore, picking it up.
"Asher, it is for you. It is Ravi."
Asher dropped his spoon, hurriedly reaching for the phone as a huge smile appeared on his face.
"Ravi."
The other line was quiet for a while and a voice that was only present in his nightmare sounded in his ears, "My little thrall, you have had a long vacation. It is high time you come back home, don’t you think?"
