I Refused To Be Reincarnated-Chapter 653: A Prank Gone Wrong
Chapter 653: A Prank Gone Wrong
At first light the next morning, Adam and Misha exchanged a grin before they bolted to Xie Lian’s room. freewebnøvel_com
Like a ghost and a feline surrounding their unsuspecting prey, they slid the wooden door open without a sound. Tiptoeing toward her bed, they sneered at her hair strewn on the bed like a blanket. Sunlight sparked bright violet in her hair, rising and falling with her peaceful breath.
Unfortunately for the sleeping beauty, that peace wouldn’t last when Adam and Misha’s eyes glowed with mischief.
Fog spread out of their hand, obscuring the sunlight and twirling ominously. It took the shape of an ethereal man, his muscular arms crossed over his broad chest. An earring dangled down his left ear, a turban covered his hair, and two eyes blazed like torches.
Adam waved his hand, creating a backdrop noise of dripping water as he altered his voice and thundered.
"Wake up, little one, for I came to grant you a wish."
Watching Xie Lian leap to her feet and take a battle stance in alarm, Misha covered her mouth to muffle a chuckle.
"Who are you, demon?" Xie Lian yelled, her eyes wide and her arms trembling.
"Have I not told you? I’m the wish granter. Anything you want is at arm’s reach." The fog man extended his palm, his lips curling. "You just have to speak it."
Xie Lian raised her arms, a suspicious frown creasing her brows. "And what will you ask in return? My life or my soul? Get lost while I’m still asking nicely."
However, the fog man raised his palms, shook his head and exhaled. "I want nothing. You only have a single chance. I suggest you make it count. Wealth, fame, power; speak what your heart truly desires."
Xie Lian covered her chest and took a hesitant step back. Was the creature speaking the truth? She didn’t know, but could she give up this opportunity because of fear?
Adam watched her facial features tense and her eyes narrow in determination. He sighed, realising she would fall for it instead of attacking as he had expected. ’Come on, Xie Lian. You can’t trust a random fog guy after you called him a demon...’
As predicted, she lowered her arms the next second and stuttered. "I-I don’t want those things. I don’t even believe you entirely. Perhaps I’m even still dreaming. After all, how could you break into our palace?"
Adam rolled his eyes. Why was she so sharp right after waking up? But his mischief and light-heartedness shattered when he heard her wish.
"But I can risk it for this wish." she raised her hands before her, a bright smile curving her lips. "I want my friendship with Adam, Misha, and Lulu to be eternal."
A tense silence engulfed the room. Even the dripping water paused as Adam’s lips contorted.
Misha gazed at him, her eyes dim as she shook her head.
But Xie Lian continued, her sincerity pounding at their guilty hearts.
"Is it not possible? They’re the first and best friends I ever had. Please, help me maintain our friendships."
After a second, the fog man offered her a solemn nod. "Granted."
Fog swirled around her in a mystic dance, the sleeping gas permeating it causing her eyelids to sag. She fought against sleep, a single mutter escaping her lips. "Thank you."
Adam caught and placed her on the soft mattress with gentle care before she fell.
Misha approached, scratching her golden hair. "You said it would be fun to watch her attack the fog before we appeared in a shower of sparks... It wasn’t fun, right?"
Adam massaged his temples. "It wasn’t. Her reaction was...unexpected."
He stepped to the door, conflicted about her wish. They had faced a demonic puppet no later than two months ago, yet she failed to learn not to trust entities offering riches for free. Nothing was free in this world... except what he gave out. But still... he somehow didn’t feel like berating her for this mistake.
A warmed hand grabbed his, the sensation breaking his thought process. He turned, gazing at Misha’s puppy eyes. Words weren’t needed. He understood how she felt but still tried to comfort him. "Let’s act as if it never happened and pamper her a little."
Misha nodded, her voice cracking slightly. "I feel terrible, but after hearing she’d toss power and wealth aside for friendship, I can accept her as my second friend."
The corner of her lips rose into a soft smile. Of course, she wouldn’t say how relieved she was about not hearing anything romantic from her. After all, she would have defended what was hers even if blood had to be spilt. "Let’s not prank her again, Adam."
With a nod, he strolled down the corridor with her.
A moment later, the noise of the kitchen fire, plates clanging against a wooden table, and the scent of fresh fish awaken Xie Lian.
She raised her hand, yawning between her slender fingers with a smile. "So it was a dream... I enjoyed it, though."
She splashed fresh water onto her face, the cold chasing sleep away. Then, her light steps against the polished wooden floor echoed as she walked toward the kitchen to share breakfast with her lovely friends.
However, her eyes widened the moment she entered. Why were Misha’s sleeves rolled up, her face stained by flour and wet from the heat as she focused on three flat pieces of dough baking amidst crackling coal in the oven?
The unfamiliar dish aside, it was the first time she had seen Misha cook something. And Adam wasn’t watching by the side. He stirred a white sauce coating fish pieces as he focused on strange straight noodles.
Her mouth watered, and her stomach grumbled at the flavourous creamy scent. She also picked another one that reminded her of tomato, basil, garlic, and pepper.
Curious, she approached them with a smile. "Morning. What are those strange dishes? Why did you make two?"
"Ask the head chef where he gets his ideas." A radiant smile blossomed on Misha’s face. "How was your sleep, sister?"
She shuddered, her heart hastening. It was the first time Misha called her sister. Why the change? Or was that dream true?
Meanwhile, Adam shrugged and spoke without turning from his pans. "I’ve seen your dedication in the past two months. Take this breakfast as a reward and motivation to improve further."
Her shudder intensified, her heart drumming in her ears. The fog man was genuine! Even if he tried to hide it, she felt a different kind of care in his voice, one more pronounced.
Her purple eyes ignited in delight as she passed her hands over their shoulders and brought them to her plump chest. "Misha, Adam, meeting you was a blessing I’ll always cherish. I know I’m sometimes annoying and lack self-confidence, but with you two, I know I can change."
The soft warmth on his face almost made Adam scoff and call her a temptress, but he swallowed the words. He raised his face and winked at her instead, then pulled back and refocused on his pans. "What are you saying all of a sudden? Sit at the table and don’t distract me if you don’t want to eat burned pizzas and spaghetti del mare."
