Chapter 54: Chapter 54

"Breaking News! Today at 3:46 PM, I’m here at the Spire of The Damned, Eldridge as tourists reported that someone or something destroyed the statue of the famous Arkus Maguire. Here is the video captured by one of the tourists that is present here."

Ever since the Rogue Mission, they’ve gotten closer to each other. Angela and the others were gathered at their clubroom and was busy doing their own things when she caught a glimpse of the video. She jumped up in shock when she saw the familiar owl flying high up in the air before disappearing.

"What the?! What’s Remillia doing there?"

The others only looked at her in confusion before continuing what they’re doing.

"Remillia’s absent today."

Cypher answered without looking at her but when Angela caught a blurry image of Remillia she shouted again.

"Guys, look!"

Angela pointed at the flat screen tv.

"-Is this an act of terrorism or is there another meaning behind it? Stay tuned for more updates. This is Mercy Antoine, your news anchor from all over the world."

However the news already ended when they saw what she’s talking about.

"What are you talking about?"

"She’s only gone for a day and now you’re missing her already?"

Whitney, and Rex answered her respectively.

"Arggh! Just wait!"

She frustratedly fished out her phone on her pocket and searched the video online. After finding the clip, she paused it and showed it to them.

"There! That’s Remillia riding her pet!"

They only looked at it for a bit and laughed at her.

"The person is blurry so how is that Remillia?"

"Remillia doesn’t have a pet like that."

"Just because Remillia’s gone doesn’t mean that that’s her."

"How can she even go there when our exams are nearing?"

"No one in the world can tame a monster."

"Listen! I saw them personally okay? Not only me but a few of my bodyguards also witnessed them. The day of the hunting competition, when the battle with the Rogue ended, her pet came out of nowhere and fetched Remillia."

All of them kept quiet but Angela suddenly realized that she just spilled a secret. She looked at them horrifyingly.

"Guys whatever you do, don’t ever say a word to Remillia about what I just said. It was supposed to be a secret!"

"And why’s that?"

"Is that even true?"

Angela didn’t listen to them anymore as she continued to mutter.

"Or better yet, forget what I said okay? Sh!t she’s gonna kill me! Or I could just apologize to her when she comes back...."

Out of frustration, Angela wanted to defend herself so she blurted out that secret between her and Remillia.

The rest of them only looked at Angela worriedly.

Rex whispered them something.

"Maybe it’s true that Remillia is a mad witc-"

Pak!

Cypher smacked his forehead.

"Don’t listen to rumors."

"But look at what she did to Angela, she became crazy just because Remillia said about a secret having an owl!"

Cypher just glared at him so he kept his mouth shut.

At the same time in a large mansion in Aeonia, an eighty year old man was also watching the news. He clenched the shot glass he was holding until it broke to pieces.

A servant quickly cleaned the broken glass and wiped his bloodied fingers then went back to her usual spot and stood like a doll.

He gestured his bodyguard standing near the door and commanded him.

"Immediately send one of your men from there to dispose the two mutts, they’re no longer of use to me. Also, burn the trash down there while they’re at it."

The bodyguard bowed down his head.

"I will send an update if the job is done in an hour."

"Do it fast, I need it to be done earlier than that."

"Yes sir."

He then gestured another servant to bring him his phone and called his private investigator.

"Find me the rat who intruded the dungeon in Eldridge. I don’t care how long it takes but I’ll pay you triple when you immediately send me the results within three hours."

He hung up and frustratingly massaged his temple.

No one must know his secret, he removed all the obstacles in his life to reach where he is now.

’No one, not even a little rat can ruin what he worked hard for.’

Yawning, Remillia stepped down on the train as she looked on her smartwatch. It was already 6 in the morning, she already booked a ticket as soon as she entered Eldridge since going to Korondal takes a 12 hour ride.

Korondal is a province of Eldridge so there are no portals available, only by train.

<They said that this was the fastest trai- mmphf!>

I stuffed his mouth with an oatmeal bar.

"Stop talking this early, I haven’t had enough sleep because of you chattering the whole ride."

<Mmphf! Mmp!>

"Oh? Still talking? Want me to stuff you with an oatmeal bar again?"

Macaron only glared at her while shaking his head.

"Good. Now go and scout the area if there are any suspicious activities going around here. Don’t forget what were looking for."

<Yesh.>

After watching him fly, I started to walk the busy streets.

Even at this hour, many people are awake now. Some are opening their shops, the kids readying to go to school and especially the elders who went to tend their fields.

I stood in front of the rice field, closed my eyes and breathed the fresh air that filled my lungs. It was too peaceful.

’Ahh. I miss this kind of life... back when my grandma was still alive.’

I snapped my eyes open when I sensed that someone is approaching me.

It was a woman probably in her 50’s or 60’s.

"You’re new here, aren’t you?"

"Ah yes."

"I see, there are only a few visitors that go here especially since this is only a small village. Perhaps, do you have any relatives here living here?"

"None. I just wanted to visit here for a short while before I go take my exams."

I turned my back on her and before I took a step, the woman talked again.

"Why don’t you eat at my place then? It seems that you haven’t eaten yet."

"N-"

"Grandma it’s time for breakfast!"

A tanned man probably in his early 20’s came running towards us. Upon seeing me, he questioned the old lady.

"Grandma, who’s this?"

"She just came to visit our village."

"I suppose she’s visiting her relatives here then?"

"No, she just wanted to visit here and tour around our village."

"Ah, I see then..."

The man looked at her and introduced himself.

"My name’s Chris and this one is Grandma Kara. Welcome to our humble village."

"My name’s Remillia and I should be going now."

"Wait! Care to join breakfast with us? I think you haven’t eaten yet considering how early you’re here."

"That’s okay, I don’t want to disturb you any-"

"Nonsense! Besides you’ll be eating at our restaurant."

She had no choice but to go with them since the grandma and grandson duo pleaded her.

I just sighed helplessly as I joined them from walking.

After 10 minutes of walking, they finally stopped in front of a building.

"What do you think? It’s nice right? My father built this all by himself!"

The restaurant, named "The Cozy Hearth," was situated in the heart of the village. It was a cozy and inviting establishment that seemed to welcome you with open arms as soon as you stepped through its wooden doors. The exterior of the building was adorned with a cheerful sign featuring a golden image of a roasting turkey.

"It’s warm."

"Let’s go inside then! I promise you, you won’t regret it! We have the best food in the village!"

When I went inside, I was immediately struck by the warm and intimate atmosphere. The walls were adorned with rustic wooden paneling, and the floor was made of worn stone, giving the place a cozy and inviting feel. The aroma of freshly baked bread wafted through the air, mingling with the savory scent of roasting meats, making your stomach growl with anticipation. However, it felt like something was missing.

"Why are there no customers?"

"That’s because we’re closed yet we open exactly at 10 AM since we gotta ready the food before customers come swarming at us."

"I see."

"Sit here with grandma, I’ll just serve the food."

"Let me help you."

"You don’t need to since you’re a visitor in our village."

"But still-"

Chris didn’t listen anymore as he went to the kitchen.

I was left behind with Granny Kara and it felt awkward. I don’t know how to start a conversation so I pretended to look around the place.

"Which school do you attend dear?"

Granny Kara was the first one who broke the silence.

"I study at Glacial Sphere Academy. It’s a school for Heroes, ma’am."

"Yes, yes I know that place. My son, Adriel, also attended that Academy so he must be your senior."

My interest got piqued about her answer.

’Can it be? Is he the same person I’m looking for?’

"By chance, is he also an Awakened, ma’am?"

"Unfortunately, no but did you know that he was one of the Heroes who was also awarded for the certificate of recognition in subjugating the Spire of the Damned?"

’Bingo! I’m in luck today.’

"Why did he retire then?"

"It’s just sad that after that first and last mission of his, he suddenly wants to retire and decided to live in this peaceful village along with his son and me."
