Chapter 75: Chapter 75

The next group that will perform are Christian George, Meredith Cortez, Gray Lane, Flynn Rivers and Silas Stone.

Christian George is a spear user and the monster they’ll be fighting is a Thornspike.

’This should be easy. I’ve already hunted two of them in Luama Island.’ frёewebηovel.cѳm

Thornspike

Difficulty: Standard Grade 1

Form: A monstrous, heavily armored creature that resembles a cross between an armadillo and a porcupine. It stands about 12 feet tall on four sturdy, clawed legs and is covered in a dense, metallic exoskeleton adorned with razor-sharp spikes. Its elongated, serpentine neck supports a menacing head with glowing red eyes and a gaping maw filled with rows of jagged teeth. Its tail, long and whip-like, is also covered in spikes and ends in a deadly, spiked club.

Attack Method: Charges at its opponent with tremendous speed, can launch its spikes in all direction causing a deadly rain of projectiles, tail whip, and claws that can kill easily kill its opponent in a single swipe.

Weak Spot: A small, unarmored area located just above the chest. This spot is difficult to reach due to the creature’s constant movement and its protective spikes.

What Remillia didn’t know was that, it was already a difficult fight for other students to begin with. Even though it’s just a standard rank, they are still students, not Heroes yet.

Christian advanced cautiously, his eyes fixed on the Thornspike, perched safely on a nearby outcrop. He took a deep breath and lunged, aiming his spear at the creature’s armored side. The spear struck with a resounding clang, bouncing off harmlessly.

’Why would he do that? Everybody knows that they have thick armors.’

I shook my head as I began to evaluate his fight, he must be nervous in facing a monster like that.

~Too direct, failed to assess the armor. Needs better strategy.

The Thornspike lowered its head and charged, its spikes gleaming. Christian barely managed to sidestep, his heart pounding as he felt the rush of air from the near-miss.

~Good reflexes, but reactionary. Needs proactive measures.

Christian aimed for the creature’s joints, targeting a gap near the knee. His spear struck true, but the Thornspike reared back, pulling the weapon out of his hands.

~Promising idea, poor execution. Lost weapon—critical error.

The Thornspike launched a volley of spikes. Christian rolled to the side, barely evading the deadly projectiles. He grabbed his spear from the ground and took a defensive stance.

~Evasion skills solid, but relies too much on luck.

Remembering the creature’s weak spot at the base of its neck, Christian devised a plan. He feinted a low thrust to draw the Thornspike’s attention downward.

~Better strategy, good feint.

Christian used the momentum from his feint to leap onto a low branch. From there, he launched himself at the Thornspike’s neck, aiming his spear for the unarmored spot. The spear pierced the flesh, but the angle was shallow, and the Thornspike roared in pain, shaking him off.

~Clever use of environment, needs more precision and power.

The Thornspike’s tail lashed out, striking Christian and sending him sprawling. He got back to his feet, his ribs aching, and repositioned himself.

~Vulnerable to tail attacks, must anticipate better.

The Thornspike unleashed all its spike in every direction as Christian rolled under it, coming up on the creature’s blind side. With a final, desperate effort, he thrust his spear into the weak spot at the just above its chest, this time driving it deeper.

~Effective use of distraction, improved targeting. Still, lacks consistency and follow-through.

The Thornspike staggered, its movements slowing until it dropped down finally not moving. Christian stepped back, panting, his body bruised and his grip on the spear tight.

He was finally teleported back.

Remillia’s final notes to Christian are; there’s much to improve. You rely too heavily on reactive movements and need to anticipate your opponent’s attacks better. Your strategy improved over time, but your execution needs consistency.

"Group 3? Get ready, you’re up next."

The ones who stood are Rex Harrison, Whitney Owen, Gregg Oneal, Astrid Jensen, and Piper Patel.

Then groups soon continued to follow while I waited for my turn next.

Meanwhile, while the groups simultaneously change to battle with the monsters, something stirred underground to where they are having their exam. It was only a slight vibration that causes small rocks to move but the students fighting didn’t notice anything strange.

"Group 12 Remillia Lockhart, Ezekiel Craine, Edge Killian, Lily Wynter, and Max Madison. Come in front."

I submitted my evaluation papers to the supervisor and calmly went in front while waiting for the rest of the group.

Edge was the second to come up and when we coincidentally looked at each other, we only nodded as a form of greeting. We aren’t that particularly close so I didn’t bother saying hello to him.

"Remillia! I’m glad I got to join in your group!"

I turned my gaze at Ezekiel who was running towards me.

’Why does he look so happy?’

"Why is your face like that?"

"Huh?"

Ezekiel touched his face, "Is there a dirt on my face?"

"What I mean is, why are you smiling?"

"Well, I was just happy because this is my only time to approach you without your dog- I mean friends guarding you."

"Pfft. Why are you even scared of them? You can just approach me casually. Besides, our friends are actually nice. Right, Edge?"

I nudged Edge who was beside me but he only looked at me for a moment before looking away again. I gritted my teeth then whispered into his ear, "Be nice and I’ll tell you what dessert Angela really loves."

Edge quickly looked at Ezekiel and said, "yes, we’re very nice."

Then he quickly whispered to her again, "now tell me, what is it?"

"It’s Florabloom Meringue Mousse. You can only buy this at Whimsy & Wonder Shop."

Edge nodded and ignored us.

’Wow, he’s really a lovesick fool for Angela but I wonder if Angela feels the same way towards him.’

Ezekiel was looking at them the whole time.

’I’m really amazed how Remillia managed to befriend the top delinquents; Edge, Whitney, and Rex and role models; Cypher, Angela, and Christian of the academy.’

"Do you have anything to say to me, Ezekiel?"

Ezekiel shyly scratched the back of his head, "well, I was hoping that if ever you have free time, can you please tutor me?"

He already has his head bowed down. It’s so shameful that he, the former top student, begged to be tutored by Remillia, the Mad Witch.

Remillia, seeing his reaction suddenly chuckled. "Why are you bowing your head? Are you embarrassed?"

Blushing, Ezekiel rose his head and shook his head, "Me? No! When have I ever been embarrassed?"

"The tip of your ear is red."

He immediately covered his ears, "well, that’s because it’s hot!"

Edge turned towards him, "don’t shout."

Two words but it already send shivers down his spine.

Remillia glared at Edge but he only shrugged his shoulders.

"Sorry about that, you can just come to me anytime if you want help in any subject."

He unconsciously grabbed her hands, "Really? Thanks!"

That’s when Cypher seemed to snap. The pen he was also holding snapped into two. Oblivious to Remillia, Cypher was watching her all the time. He grabbed another pen in his shirt pocket and aimed it at Ezekiel’s head.

’Another annoying little mosquito snuck beside Remi.’

Pop!

It was a faint sound as the pen came flying fast aiming at Ezekiel’s forehead.

Missed.

The pen hit the wall just inches away from his head.

He looked at them again, it seems that Ezekiel was apologizing to her while bowing. Explains how he dodged my shot.

’How annoyingly lucky.’

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Archmage Orion looked at them especially me, "Good luck students. Make sure you don’t die in there, it will be hard to find your bodies in that forest."
I was dumbfounded by what he said, ’wow... what kind of motivation is that?
One by one we finally entered the portal and it transported us in the forest. As expected, we were separated from each other and as soon as I turned around a monster appeared.
’Oooh, this is a new one.’
————————————
Skarvok
Difficulty: Advanced Grade 5
Form: It is a massive, imposing feline creature that roams the darkest corners of the forest. It stands approximately 10 feet tall at the shoulder, with a body covered in tattered, black fur and glowing emerald green eyes that seem to pierce through the darkness. Its ears are pointed and sharp, and its tail is long and whip-like, used for balance and intimidation. Its claws are razor-sharp and curved like scimitars, capable of tearing through steel.
Attack Method: The Skarvok’s preferred method of killing is to use its razor-sharp claws to rip open its opponent’s chest cavity, then deliver a fatal bite to the heart. It can also use its powerful jaws to crush an opponent’s skull or neck, ending their life with a swift and brutal efficiency.
Weak Spot: It is located in its left ear, which is slightly smaller and more delicate than its right ear. If an opponent can target this ear with a precise attack, they may be able to deal significant damage to the Skarvok’s auditory nerve and temporarily deafen or disorient it.
