I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]-Chapter 145: It’s Not About Trust
Chapter 145: It’s Not About Trust
"Do you not trust me?"
Felix let out a quiet sigh.
No, he didn’t. The truth was that he still didn’t trust Eden. At least not that much. Not enough to entrust him with any information that might put his and Vivi’s safety in question.
He didn’t want to say it out loud, though. He was worried that Eden might feel hurt because of it, and it wasn’t his intention. So, instead, he explained, "It’s not about trust. It would be better for you as well. This way, you won’t get involved in anything dangerous... After all, even if you want to keep a secret, your expression, or your body language, might betray you. Let the person interrogating you know that you are lying. But if you’re under a spell, then it will be as if you truly have no idea... You will look like a perfectly innocent, clueless, completely uninvolved person living in this town."
"I know how to keep secrets," Eden insisted. "I have also run away from my pack, and managed to stay hidden for a few years now..."
"That’s even more a reason for you not to risk getting involved. What if someone recognizes you, and uses it to threaten you?"
Felix’s arguments seemed to finally get through, because Eden flinched. He adjusted in his seat, visibly uncomfortable... Well, no wonder. His life was potentially at stake. After all, he had fled his pack because his former chosen mate’s fated mate wanted him dead... A few years might have passed, but there was no saying they wouldn’t kill him if they found him now. Thus, it would be in his best interest not to get involved in any werewolf affairs...
"We can add an enchantment that will conceal your identity," Felix suggested to make the offer even more appealing. "This way, even if you come across any werewolves related to your pack, they will see you as just a regular human, and won’t suspect your identity."
"...Can’t you just use this enchantment on me without any spells?"
Felix pressed his lips, hesitating. It wasn’t that he couldn’t... But he just wouldn’t feel at ease, trusting anyone aside from Remi and Brielle (and, of course, Kade, but he didn’t count, since he was from the Bloodmoon Pack, didn’t live in Silverfall, and the Misty Claw Pack was HIS enemy, which was the reason behind this whole ordeal) with this secret. Perhaps it was a bit unfair... But in the end, that was Felix’s life. He had the right to choose whom he wanted to trust, no?
Besides, something about Eden’s reaction... just rubbed him the wrong way. Felix didn’t quite know where this feeling came from, but the way the Omega insisted on avoiding the spell was just a bit unsettling. While it was natural that a person might be uncomfortable with the idea of having their memories altered in any way, or being put under a spell... Eden had no problem drinking the potions he got from the witch for his heat, and was willing to accept the spell that would conceal his identity, so it wasn’t that he didn’t trust the witch’s abilities, even if he was scared of him. Maybe he was overthinking it, but Felix had an inkling there was something more to it...
So, he asked, "Why are you so against it? It’s just that you wouldn’t remember about my connection with Kade. We would still be friends, and the rest of your memories wouldn’t be affected."
"But... If I didn’t remember about it, then you wouldn’t be able to talk about Young Master Kade to me!" Eden tried explaining, but he was immediately shot down.
"I don’t want to talk about it anyway," Felix said bluntly. "There’s not much to begin with, as it’s all in the past. There’s nothing between us, and he won’t be coming to Silverfall anytime soon..."
They were still keeping in touch, of course, but that was none of Eden’s business. Even before, Felix preferred to keep this whole thing to himself, and had never discussed it with anyone, be it Eden, Brielle, or even Remi. Well, the fox knew everything, since he had witnessed many of their interactions... But that was not the point. Felix wasn’t used to sharing his personal thoughts and feelings with anyone, especially with a third person. And he had no intention of confiding in Eden, not now, and not in the future. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
And Eden should know it by now. Felix had always dismissed the topic, without revealing too much, whenever the Omega brought up Kade...
Yet, he insisted, "What if you change your mind?"
"I won’t," Felix answered without hesitation. "And if I ever do, then the spell can always be removed."
Eden shifted in his seat, avoiding Felix’s eyes. "Still, I would prefer not to be put under the spell..."
...If he wanted to make Felix even more suspicious of his intentions, then he most definitely had succeeded. Using the fact that if he were to be placed under the spell, Felix wouldn’t be able to talk to him about Kade as his main argument? That simply didn’t made sense! If he tried to convince Felix by explaining how uncomfortable it felt to have his memories altered, that it was too invasive, messing with his mind like that, then Felix would have at least been able to understand his point of view... But this? It was almost as if he wanted to gather more information on him and Kade, and use them for his benefit!
Of course, it could very well be that Felix was just overly sensitive, and Eden was simply hoping to become his close confidant, since they were both young Omegas who had run away from their packs. But Felix still couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was wrong...
He observed Eden carefully with his eyes slightly narrowed. There was no way he could leave it like that... For now, though, he let it go.
"...Alright," he said with a sigh, easing his expression. "Since you’re so uncomfortable with it, then I won’t press any further... Just remember, it’s important to keep it all a secret. Don’t mention it to anyone, not even a word."
"Of course!" Taken off the hook, Eden finally relaxed a bit. "I will keep my mouth shut!"
"Mn," Felix nodded his head. That’s all he could do right now... For the next steps, he had to discuss it with Remi beforehand...
