Chapter 1667: Chapter 1667: The Gentleman is as Refined as Jade, Unique in the World (7)

Candies are colorful, like rainbows in the sky. Moreover, the candies come in various shapes, looking strange yet interesting.

She doesn’t eat much candy. Ever since she had a cavity as a child, she hasn’t dared to eat it anymore.

The butler laughed, "Dr. Wen said the candies are handmade by him, using brown sugar and black sugar, along with fruit juice, so they don’t cause cavities. And, he mentioned that brown sugar and black sugar are good for girls’ health, which I do agree with."

Shen Di took the glass jar and placed it in front of her eyes, shaking it as the candies clinked.

"Dr. Wen said the candies are free of additives, so they spoil easily. You should eat them soon. Once finished, he can make more."

Shen Di’s smile froze on her face, and she put down the candies, "No need, he’s leaving tomorrow."

The butler wanted to say something but hesitated, unsure of what to say.

"These candies are meant to coax little girls." Shen Di placed the glass jar on the coffee table without opening it.

"Miss, you can try some," said the butler.

"The candies look quite tempting already. What if I try one and want more? And what if I end up eating the entire jar?" Shen Di’s lips curved in a light smile.

The butler didn’t understand what Shen Di meant and didn’t try to persuade her further.

"Butler, I’ll be going to the music concert early tomorrow morning, so I won’t be home for meals. I might have dinner with friends in the evening."

"Alright, please take care of yourself."

Shen Di nodded.

Perhaps it was due to a good mood during the day, but even at ten o’clock at night, Shen Di still couldn’t fall asleep.

Lying in bed, she tossed and turned, flipping through the photos on her phone.

The photos taken during the day showcased beautiful woodland scenery, mountains, water, and people...

Looking at them gradually made her sleepy, and she seemed to fall into a long dream.

When she woke from the dream, she heard the sound of a car and the door opening.

In a daze, Shen Di turned on the lamp to check the clock; it was already 1:30 AM.

At this hour, who could be arriving?

The footsteps came closer, so she simply wrapped herself in a coat to take a look.

Just as she reached the door, she heard the voices of the butler and Wen Zhiyuan.

"Dr. Wen, why are you back so late?" the butler asked.

"Shh, lower your voice, don’t wake her," Wen Zhiyuan knew he would have to pass Shen Di’s floor to get to his own bedroom. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Shen Di was already standing at the door, watching them, leaning against the pillar.

As Wen Zhiyuan raised his head, he saw her under the streetlight, draped in an off-white knitted cardigan, serene and calm.

Her lips moved slightly, "Just finished surgery?"

With the bright light, she could see the fatigue etched on Wen Zhiyuan’s face, especially his tightly furrowed brows.

"Yeah, luckily the hard work paid off," Wen Zhiyuan replied with a faint smile.

"Is the patient alright now?"

"Yes, they’re out of danger."

"Then... have you had dinner yet?" Shen Di couldn’t help but ask.

She wasn’t one to care for others much, especially strangers she didn’t know well. But facing Wen Zhiyuan, the words came naturally, without much of a sense of unfamiliarity.

"Not yet," Wen Zhiyuan shook his head, "I’ll just have some hot water when I go back to my room."

"Dr. Wen, let me make you some noodles, it’ll do," said the butler.

"I’ll do it, I just woke up anyway." Shen Di said casually, "Butler, you can go back to sleep."

The butler looked at Shen Di in disbelief, since Miss never touches kitchen work. Though she could make noodles, he hesitated to let her.

"Miss, let me do it."

In the end, it was Shen Di who cooked the noodles.

The butler couldn’t argue with Shen Di, so he went back to sleep.

"Miss Shen actually knows how to cook noodles? I didn’t see that coming." Wen Zhiyuan said, looking at the steaming bowl of noodles in front of him with a hint of a smile.

"It’s just for the consideration of your life-saving efforts, and... happy birthday."

Saying this, Shen Di diverted her gaze elsewhere, not looking at him.

Wen Zhiyuan was caught off guard but quickly responded. He smiled, "How did you know today was my birthday?"

Today was indeed his birthday, but he had completely forgotten after performing a surgery.

He had planned to accompany Shen Di to the concert today, to mark his birthday, but unexpectedly, she also knew.

"It’s written on your ID card," Shen Di replied nonchalantly.

"You actually looked at it closely? And remembered it?" Wen Zhiyuan was a bit surprised.

"What if I was unknowingly hiring child labor? I can’t take that responsibility."

"..." Wen Zhiyuan twitched his lips, "Between the two of us, you’re the one who looks more like child labor."

"I’m older than you, you should call me sister," Shen Di glared at him playfully.

"I refuse."

There was no way Wen Zhiyuan would call her sister, especially considering she was only a few months older.

Wen Zhiyuan lowered his head to eat the noodles, they tasted really good. He almost finished even the soup.

"Is doing surgery very tiring?" Shen Di furrowed her brows, "But being able to save a life, I think that’s very admirable."

Wen Zhiyuan laughed, "Why don’t you just praise me directly?"

"I won’t praise you since it’s your duty. As a doctor, saving lives is your job. Why should I praise you? Besides, I think you’re better suited for saving lives in a hospital, so after today’s trial period, you don’t need to come to my house anymore."

Shen Di straightforwardly finished saying it all in one breath, to avoid any ambiguity tomorrow.

Wen Zhiyuan stood up, walking to her side.

He was much taller than her, giving Shen Di a strong sense of pressure.

Shen Di placed both hands against the wall, stealing a glance at him, seemingly not having said anything wrong.

"Seeing a patient here is the same as seeing a crowd of patients elsewhere, that reason won’t do. Think of another one. If you can’t come up with a legitimate reason, don’t even think about dismissing me."

Wen Zhiyuan’s tone carried a trace of determination and edge, as being close to her was not something he’d easily give up.

"I’m the employer!"

"I said it’s unacceptable, so it’s unacceptable!"

"Wen Zhiyuan, you’re being unreasonable," Shen Di, who had never quarreled before, felt on the verge of tears.

"It’s clear that you’re the one being unreasonable."

Tears welled up in Shen Di’s eyes, mixed with a sense of grievance.

Wen Zhiyuan couldn’t bear to see girls cry, his tone immediately softened, "Give me another chance. Look, I haven’t done anything wrong, have I? Moreover, I’ve been through surgery today, and it’s my birthday, can’t you just not drive me away today?"

Shen Di’s heart softened, hearing Wen Zhiyuan’s reasoning did make sense.

After all, today was his birthday.

"How long do you want to stay?" Shen Di asked.

Almost without thinking, a response jumped from his chest: a lifetime.

But he smiled, looking at her, "The company’s trial period is three months, isn’t it? So how about we do the same, three months?"

Shen Di visibly frowned, "That’s too long."

At that moment, strangely, she felt a bit scared... scared to face him...
