I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 193: Escape Attempt
"Everything," the Patriarch whispered, his voice cracking with a desperate hope. "The Alpha Corp assets, the banks, all of it."
"A man of your strength shouldn’t be a bodyguard; you should be a god among men," he continued, "Just release these restraints, and I will give you all the help you need to legally take everything from that man!"
Ulen stared at the old man for a long moment.
The silence in the room grew heavy, while the Lionel fleet continued to implode on the viewscreen.
Slowly, Ulen’s lips curled into a dry, humorless smile.
"You really don’t get it, do you?" Ulen said, his voice dropping a little. "You think everyone has a price because you have a price. You think power is something stolen, because that’s how the Lionels built their throne."
He stood up, walking toward the large window overlooking the void of space.
"Leo didn’t just save me from a cell," Ulen continued, not looking back. "He gave me a front-row seat to this interesting spectacle. Money is the last thing I crave at this point, especially after living for so long."
"As for your legacy, wasn’t it a house of cards built on the suffering of people who couldn’t fight back. You call him a monster for tearing it down? I call him a landscaper clearing out the rot."
The Patriarch’s face contorted, the mask of the ’helpless old man’ slipping to reveal a panicked animal. "You’re a fool! He’ll discard you the moment you aren’t useful! You’re trading a seat at the table for a leash!"
Ulen turned back, his eyes glowing with a faint light that made the Patriarch swallow his saliva in fear.
"I’d rather be a dog to a man who keeps his word than a partner to a snake who breathes lies," Ulen stated.
He tapped a command on the wall console. The screen displaying the destruction of the Lionel fleet blinked out, replaced by a comedy series that he had become addicted to.
In any case, the battle was more or less over. There was nothing to see there.
Down on Earth, the Hero Tower’s fleet, which were reserved to fight if the first barrier was broken, finally took flight.
However, they didn’t rise to join the battle. It would’ve been too shameful to join the battle after everything was over, after all.
Instead, left earth to help the Alpha Corp’s fleet clean up, to ensure that no one escaped.
"This can’t be happening... This isn’t real. I’m dreaming, right?" Fiona was sitting on the seat like a lifeless doll.
She couldn’t even control the ship, to have it turn around. There was no changing this fate. She was truly like a sitting duck as the ship’s controls had been snatched from her.
As if further mocking her, even the display had started malfunctioning. Instead of showing the scenes outside, the display was only showing text.
"Enjoy the gift..."The three words felt like a clear mockery.
Although it wasn’t clear who sent these words, Fiona had a rough guess. After all, it wasn’t a coincidence that her ship had been hacked the moment Alpha Corp’s fleet arrived.
"First, he tried to ruin my business. Then he started blowing up our branches. Even then, he wasn’t satisfied. He kidnapped my grandfather, and robbed us, bringing our family’s downfall."
Fiona looked blankly at the text on the screen. "Why did he have to go so far to ruin me? Does he have no empathy?"
"Even the greatest of villains leave a way out for their enemies, yet he wants to take everything from me, bringing my back against a wall. Why?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
She truly was at a loss, unable to process what had just happened.
A human who was almost begging her for a loan, was now looking down on her from a high seat. While she... she had become a joke in this space sector with everyone watching her downfall.
"My Lady, it isn’t the time to be thinking about that. You should escape from this ship," the commander of the ship held Fiona’s hand, helping her rise. "We don’t know what might be done to you, if you’re caught!"
"Hah, where can I even run to? All we have are escape pods, and they can’t outrun the enemy fleet. It’s all over..."
"Who says you have to outrun the enemies in a Galactic Chase? You just have to reach the observers and surrender before them! You still carry the name of the Lionel Family, and they wouldn’t want you to die. They still need to recover their money after all!"
"If you’re caught by the enemies, you will definitely die. But if you surrender to the observer, they will protect you, and you can find another chance to convince them to give him more time! Even if Leo has an entire fleet, can he attack the observers who are mostly warlords?"
"Also, even if they are after you to take their money back, they still were close to the Lionel Family in the past. I’m sure they will hold some sympathy towards your family!"
At the moment when almost everyone had betrayed her, the woman was still with Fiona, trying to convince her to escape while they still had time.
Her words also didn’t fall on deaf ears. Fiona did understand her words. After all, anything was better than falling in Leo’s hands.
If it was only her, she would have still thought twice, but she had to return to her daughter. She couldn’t die here!
"You are right! We just find a way to get to the observers, asking for their help!" Fiona came to her senses, and clenched her fist.
She immediately rushed out of the control room, accompanied by the commander and a few other guards, each carrying a powerful weapon that cost a fortune.
The group rushed through the metallic corridors of the flagship. The internal lights flickered as the ship’s power core struggled to maintain stability.
