Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Return home

"Am I lost?" Leo wondered as he walked alone in the long passage.

There were no rows of bodies littered around, not even ones belonging to monsters that would have been killed by the Goblin King.

There were also no signs of any traps being activated. It was as if this path wasn’t touched in the least.

It made him become more cautious since he was more likely the first person who had taken this route, which was quite surprising when he considered that over a hundred thousand people had entered this dungeon.

Although he was extremely careful in his steps, worried about triggering the traps, after an hour or so, he became somewhat relaxed.

He wasn’t an expert at detecting traps. But still, to not come across a single trap made him wonder if there were any traps in here in the first place.

"Did I accidentally select the cheat route?" He thought out loud, as he kept pushing forward.

As more time passed, he became even more certain about his assumption.

Unfortunately, there was only one problem with selecting the cheat route. It was that he wouldn’t come across the goblin king.

"Did I lose the opportunity to get a new add on?"

Leo shook his head lightly. "Whatever, if I can return home safely, it might not be half bad. If I come across him, then it’s good. But if I don’t, I won’t go out of my way to take risks."

After a few more hours passed, Leo stopped before a door. The door looked similar to the door that was faced by the Goblin King.

The only difference was that there were no statues placed outside the door.

Leo simply placed his hand on the door, and pushed it.

The door looked heavy, but even without much force, Leo was able to push it open.

To his surprise, it was as if the door was helping him, moving on its own as soon as his fingers touched it.

The door opened, revealing a grand hall. And the first thing that Leo saw inside the hall was a portal.

It was much smaller than the portal beyond the cliff where he had fallen, but it had the same color.

"Is it really the way back? Or will it toss me to another world?" Leo stepped inside the hall, scratching the back of his head.

He had only taken a few steps when he heard a thud sound. The door from where he had entered, had closed abruptly.

Leo didn’t rush to open the door, as the portal was before him. Instead, he looked around the hall, which was quite peculiar.

It was as if all the strange circuits that were spread through the various dungeon passages were merged at this place, connected to the pattern beneath the portal.

On the left side of the door, there was another door which was similar to the one he had entered from, leading to another room.

He didn’t even have to guess what was beyond the door, since there was no proper wall around the door.

There was only glass that had formed something like a wall. He could see through the glass wall, and knew what was beyond the door.

He felt a chill run down his spine as soon as he saw through the glass.

There was a creature that looked like a dog straight from hell. The creature had three tails, and a black fur around its body that appeared like black flames were burning through his body.

The beast was sitting on the ground, his head resting near his claws.

Even if Leo hadn’t lost his weapons and his storage ring, he wouldn’t have tried to face this beast. Just the size of this beast alone was horrifying.

Even though it was sitting, it was still over five times taller than Leo.

Fortunately, it didn’t look like the beast could sense his presence through the glass.

Just like this hall had two doors, the room of the beast also had two doors. One which led to this portal hall. Leo wasn’t certain about the destination of the other.

So far, he had barely explored anything within the dungeon. And he was not in the mood to explore anything.

If the dog wasn’t in the other room, he might have still given up to his curiosity. But now... He didn’t have the courage.

"How bad I want to see what’s beyond that door... But for now..."

Leo slowly stepped back.

Even though he had an opportunity to upgrade his system, the chances of death were just as high. If he didn’t have the allure of the portal right next to him, he might have still given in to his greed for an upgrade.

But now... He had a better plan.

"I should leave and prepare a welcome gift for the Goblin King."

He was certain that it was only a matter of time before the Goblin King reached this place. The beast couldn’t stop him when he was accompanied by a literal dragon.

Instead of trying to use a sneak attack on him, he would rather leave this place and return to his ship and wait outside in preparation.

"I just hope he won’t be too late..."

Leo kept stepping back, and his figure slowly touched the portal behind him. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

He disappeared within the portal, his body surrounded by a mysterious force that felt as fierce as before.

Leo expected to appear within the valley again, but to his pleasant surprise, he materialized above the cliff from where he was pushed.

And beneath him, the giant portal was still flickering consistently.

"So if he steps through the portal, he would also appear on the cliff. Good. That makes things easier..."

Leo took a deep breath, and looked at the sky. In the distance, he could still see a massive space ship hovering high above a mansion.

"Before I wait for that goblin, should I see a few old friends... I do need to repay them after all."

Leo wrapped his arms around his chest, and walked towards the direction of the mansion which was still a few kilometres away.
