Chapter 35: Aftermath

Darius stood over Slav’s decaying body. he was looking at the beast, and he could see the despair in his eyes. It was still not clear how it was possible for him to defeat a monster like that.

’Now it’s dead.’ Azree spoke up.

Darius had a smile on his face; he was looking at Slav, and he could tell that the beast was not one any warrior would have walked out on easily.

"He was not an easy one; this ugly bastard put me through a lot." Darius was looking at Slav, when he turned it he could see that the basilisk sage was not dead yet even though he was slowly decaying.

"You bested me, child. You truly have an indomitable spirit." Slav had an odd smile on his face, he was looking at Darius, not trying to push past the fact that their fight destroyed the temple from the sheer force alone.

Dariys was a bit creeped out when he saw the monster smiling at him. "You seem rather happy for someone who is dying. You are an odd creature, aren’t you?"

Slav, with a smile on his face, kept looking at Darius. he was both overjoyed and shocked that a mortal like Darius was able to put him in that position.

"I have lived for eons, child. This is the very first time I have met a mortal with this amount of power. You are the second mortal to push me into my Revered State, but you are the only one to break free from the chamber of despair! You gave me a fight that I have been itching for since the age of the dragons!" Slav sounded ecstatic, his mood confused Darius.

Usually, enemies are meant to hate him for killing them, but then he was looking at Slav, and all he could see was someone different.

"Tell me, child, what is the name of the warrior who bested me?" Slav was looking at Darius, it was like he was trying to find out something about him.

Darius didn’t care if he was going to do anything; he knew that he had won the fight, and there was no way for him to come back and haunt him.

"My name is Darius Winters." He said, boldly looking at the decaying sage.

"Darius Winters, I, Slav the Greed, 12th scholar of the Ouroboros, beseech you to get stronger!" Slav said loudly, surprising Darius. "If you think that this was a brutal fight, just wait and see the horrors that are coming your way."

"Wait, what do you mean horror? What is coming?!" Darius was trying to find out what Slav meant when he said horrors were coming his way. "Explain what you mean by horrors!"

"Heed my warnings, Darius Winters, Inheritor of Ashran’s Power!" Slav said, looking at Darius, he was about fading away. "Become stronger!"

Slav said that before fading into dust, Darius was looking at the dust pile and was shocked by all the monster had to say.

’What in the world was all that?’ Darius couldn’t think of anything to call what had happened in front of him. he was not sure if he was going to call it something normal, but then he was happy that he wouldn’t be worrying about the basilisk turning into something more sinister.

Darius sat down, trying to catch his breath; the fight with Slav had messed with his skills and abilities, making it hard for him to kick off healing.

’I better be on my wa..." Darius paused when he noticed a strange blackish orb covered in an eerie aura. It was the same thing that Slav was emitting when attacking him.

{Notice! Absorb Slav’s Core!}

The screen popped up with a notification. he was looking at it, and he was a bit skeptical about it, knowing that there was something different about the core.

’I don’t know what it is, but I know there has to be something stronger about this one, and it’s glowing rather oddly.’ Darius paid attention to the core; he was not sure if he was even meant to touch it, but he was going to give it a try.

Darius stood up and went close to the core, he was looking at it, still not sure if he was going to be doing the right thing to try and absorb it.

"Here goes nothing!" Darius picked up Slav’s core immediately. He touched it, he was engulfed in darkness. Darius could hear the wails of souls all around him and how they were trying to break free.

Darius felt their pain and agony, he was barely holding the core.

"So much despair!"

"This is too much, I don’t think I can do this." Darius was abput

’Concentrate, Darius, you’re almost there.’ Azree tried to encourage him.

Darius held the core, not letting go, unsure what was going to be coming from the core he was still holding it and he could feel the odd energy coming from it.

{Notice! Absorption Complete!}

Darius opened his eyes with a smile on his face. He had done something that seemed hard to him, but when he opened his eyes, he saw that the core had turned into something strange.

"Now what in the world is this?" Darius was looking at what the core turned into, and he was a bit confused. He didn’t know what he was meant to be seeing there.

’Place it in your inventory. You need to leave this place.’ Azree warned Darius.

Darius nodded his head, he placed the core into the inventory. He picked up his shattered sword and gauntlets and began walking out of the dungeon, trying to walk straight without falling.

As Darius walked to the entrance of the dungeon, he paused and looked back. The ruined temple was the only evidence he had that he had faced something so diabolical.

"I will get even stronger. I will have to look for a way to make sure that I don’t die when facing things like this." With that, Dairus stepped out of the dungeon.

The moment he stepped out, he was faced with Liu and his men, who were waiting for him there.

Liu was dumbfounded to see Darius walking out of the dungeon in that state; his entire body was battered, and he was managing to stand on his feet.

"Mr. Winters?" Liu called out, looking at Darius. he walked to him slowly, trying to make sure that nothing was wrong.

Darius turned to Liu, giving him a thumbs up. he fell face flat.

"Oh, Lord! Someone help me get an ambulance!" Liu was panicking. he was looking at Darius’s body, and he couldn’t tell what happened inside the dungeon. "What on earth did you face in there?"

Back at the ruins of Slav’s temple, a figure could be seen hovering over Slav’s ashes. Its face covered, it looked like something straight out of a horror comic.

"To think that Slav would be defeated, that warrior did have an unorthodox way of fighting." The figure teleported to the places where Darius had landed on. The figure cackled; it was filled with joy. "Finally, it is about time! Let the real games begin!"
