Chapter 49: Trials Of Fire Part 1: Enter Aeres’s Temple...

Darius began walking to the dungeon gate, determined he was not going to let anything stand in his way or even make him rethink it. He reached the gate and was about to walk in when someone called out for him.

"What do you think you are doing, Darius Winters?"

Darius turned to see Keith walking up to him, he knew there was going to be a problem and they would be having a misunderstanding.

"Well, you see, I intend to clear this here dungeon and be on my jolly way." Darius had a goofy smile on his face.

"Does that look like a joke to you? That dungeon is emitting high amounts of unstable mana, and you are saying that you want to clear a dungeon that strong?"

Keith walked close to Darius, just like Liu he had a skill that allowed him see through a warrior, but his own allowed him see the warrior’s mana.

He used his skill to look at Darius, and almost immediately, he was petrified. The mana he was seeing on Darius was far greater than that of any warrior he had seen or dealt with.

’What is this guy? He is overflowing with mana!’ Keith was looking at Darius, and he was trying to see what it was he was dealing with, and all he could see was a monster.

Darius let out a sigh, he was not sure if he would be able to talk to Keith the same way he talked to Liu. "I know you will think this is somewhat stupid, but I will be able to take care of it."

Keith was looking at Darius, he knew there was something about him that was different from other warriors. But he was not sure if he was going to be able to handle the dungeon; he didn’t want any casualties on his watch.

"Listen here, I am not going to let you walk past me like that. The dungeon is dangerous, and if I let you in, then there..."

"Keith."

Keith paused to see who was calling him, he turned to see Liu standing there.

"Liu? I don’t know what this guy thinks, but I know he is not going to be able to handle this dungeon. Thank goodness you are here to help me tell him to back off. I was about to..."

"Let him through," Liu calmly said. He didn’t want Keith to hold Darius back any longer.

Keith was shocked, and he wasn’t expecting Liu to tell him to let Darius in like that. "Huh? Liu, you are the same person who told me it would be dangerous to let anyone go through that dungeon, and now you are telling me to let him walk through?!"

He looked at his partner as both he and Darius shared a look, and Darius gave him a nod before dashing for the dungeon gate at top speed. He moved so fast it was hard for Keith to even see him move.

’Such speed! And from an F ranked?!"

"Wait!" Keith tried to grab him, but it was of no use. He grunted before he turned to Liu. "You know what is going to happen if that man doesn’t come back, right? You stand a chance of being stripped of your license, and you might even face serious jail time."

Liu smiled and patted Keith’s shoulder. "I know the consequences, and I know whatever lies inside that dungeon is powerful. But I place my bets on Darius Winters."

Keith could see that Liu had faith in the boy enough to let him through.

"Tell me, Liu, what did you see?" Keith had a faint smile on his face while he was looking at his partner. "You hardly change your mind when it comes to things like this. You saw something."

Liu couldn’t hide his smile anymore, he turned to Keith. "I just saw something out of this world in that boy, he might be the future of the world run by warriors. The change the chairman had been talking about might come through him." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Keith was astonished to see his friend saying things like that about one man. ’Must be someone worth betting on then.’

Both of them looked at the dungeon gate, silently praying for Darius to come back alive.

The moment Darius jumped into the dungeon, a heat wave hit his face; it was enough to burn a normal man’s skin off.

"Ow, that was hot!" Darius rubbed his face, he was lucky because hardened was activated; if not, he would have lost his face. The air was damp, and it smelt like a mixture of sulfur and burning wood.

Darius, after wiping his face, looked up. In front of him was a temple with a statue of a majestic red Dragon standing erect.

"Why do they love temples?" Darius remembered his battle with Slav; he wasn’t going to shake it off that easy.

’Take it easy, Darius. It shouldn’t be this easy for you to enter the temple, so be careful.’ Azree warned.

Darius shook his head, he didn’t like the fact that Azree was trying to say something bad about the mission when they hadn’t even started. "Don’t jinx it, Azree. We can walk in and fight the fire man and be on our wa..."

{Notice! Guardians of Aeres’s Temple- Sul and Fern have awoken!}

"Way to go Azree, not even in and you jinxed my luck!" Darius yelled on seeing the system notification.

’I did no such thing! Be careful, don’t let them make you drain your strength and mana, They should be easy to deal with,’ Azree tried to warn Darius.

"Don’t worry, they sound weak, so we shouldn’t have a problem." Darius took his stance, waiting for the guardians.

Immediately, two 17-ft volcanic salamandrian monsters crawled out. Their bodies were covered in molten lava, their eyes fixed on Darius. Each step they took seemed to burn the earth beneath them, the very droll from their mouths seemed to be lava.

"Azree, it seems we were both wrong. Those things don’t look weak!" Darius stepped back, he was looking at the monsters as they paused, looking at him like he was prey.

’I pray you find peace in the afterlife.’ Azree said in the form of a prayer.

"This is no time for jokes!" Darius yelled as he turned to look at the monsters.

"Hey look, these fools are guarding fire with fire. Classic idiot moves." Darius chirped in, looking at the monsters move closer to him.

’Does this look like the best time for jokes?’ Azree sounded furious.

"What? But there was no problem with you doing it? Someone had to say it, and it is pretty obvious that..." Darius paused when he noticed that one of the monsters had closed in on him with intense speed.

Darius managed to dodge the beast, but the heat scorched his sleeve. Darius put himself together and looked at the monster; he was sure that the monster moved as fast as him.

"Such speed. This is not going to be easy, is it?" Darius looked at his burnt sleeve, he opened the inventory; he was about to pull out the red cobra blade when he turned to the Ve’xa.

"Let’s use this!" Darius pulled the sword out. It was a long sword at 150 cm, and the hilt was designed with the head of a great serpent, but the odd thing about the blade was that it seemed to be separated at seven different segments with the debole of the blade forged like a cleaver.

"What in the world?" Darius exclaimed as he admired the blade.

{Notice! Ve’xa the basilisk slayer is the sword forged by Slav the greed, a blade that can extend to 5 times its length in battle- the blade has been endowed with two magic abilities!}

"Magic sword? Then it means..."

’Darius, focus!’ Azree called back Darius’s attention, and immediately, Darius turned to see one of the monsters almost on his head. He blocked the beast with the sword, and suddenly, the sword began to glow red.

Darius was surprised; he was not sure what he was looking at, but he was about to use it to his advantage. He punched the monster back, sending it crashing into the other one.

{Ve’xa’s unique skill- ability steal activated- The sword can absorb the opponent’s ability waiting for the wielder to use it in one swing.}

{Ve’xa command words- Release and Scatter!}

Darius had a devious smile on his face as he looked at the beasts. He was going to make sure that he would take them down and not let anything slip up.

"Well, ugly and uglier, you have become test subjects today." Darius dashed towards the beasts before launching into the air, he kept his eyes on them.

"Release and Scatter!"

Immediately, the sword growled as it broke into seven segments acting as a whip. Darius was surprised to see that the sword was not just for show. He used all his strength to control it, he twirled in the air before launching the head of the blade for one of the beasts.

The beast couldn’t dodge the sword’s impact; it went right through its skull, killing it.

The other monster saw what Darius had done; it let out a roar before spitting fire on Darius. Darius struggled to dodge the flames.

He landed on the ground, finding it hard to pull out his blade from the creature’s corpse. He decided to use it as a mace, using the dead salamandrian as a weapon on the other one. He managed to hit it into a wall on the temple, but he had not killed it.

"C’mon on out uglier, I know you ain’t dead." Darius had a grin on his face.

The Salamandrian pushed the corpse of its fallen brother off its body, it was wounded. It crawled down, looking at its fallen comrade. It let out a roar before beginning to consume it whole.

"What the actual hell is happening?!" Darius was looking at the beast eat its dead comrade.

’I don’t think you should let it eat that!’ Azree yelled.

Darius immediately released Ve’xa, but the sword was pushed back by some force. The monster seemed to roll into some kind of glowing cocoon.

"Now what?" Darius stepped back, uncertain about what would emerge from the cocoon. He watched as it glowed, almost like something was breathing in it. "That doesn’t look friendly."

’Darius, whatever is going to come through, be careful how you face it!’ Azree warned.

The cocoon opened, and a flaming warrior stepped out holding a spear that stood at 240 cm. The warrior seemed to be in a feral state, standing 7 feet tall. He began walking towards Darius.

Darius smiled on seeing the transformation, "Hey ugiler! I didn’t know you could get more hideous!"

The feral warrior charged toward Darius at a terrifying speed. Landing a blow on him from behind, but Darius blocked it with Ve’xa.

A smile on his face, he looked at the monster. "Okay, I see someone wants to play. Let’s play!"
