Legendary Oops System-Chapter 54: Instructor Iritis’ Help
"To be honest, I expected you’d be in a bit of a pinch before asking for a favor. I didn’t think it’d be this soon."
The instructor’s words echoed through the now-deserted hall, where only he and White remained.
"So, what’s it going to be? Points? Access cards?"
"Actually,"
White said, rising from his seat.
"It’s a challenge."
He said, and the instructor paused.
"A challenge? As in... you want to cancel your challenge with someone?"
He asked, but White shook his head, answering.
"I want to challenge someone, a second year on the Top 10 Cyber Rankings."
The instructor’s words froze in his mouth, and he paused, eyebrows quivering.
"Can you come again?"
"I want to fight a second year that is in the Top 10 on the Cyber Ranking. Not any ordinary second year, but one in the Top 10 Cyber Ranking."
He repeated, but then,
"HAHAHAHA!"
Loud laughter exploded through the entire hall, and White stood awkwardly, watching the man laugh his lungs out.
"You... hahaha. You want to take on a 2nd year!? And not just any 2nd year, a Top 10 on their own ranking!?"
"Do you have any idea how brutal the 2nd year Cyberpoint Ranking is!? How monstrous a power you will need to have to be even near the top of it?"
"And you think you’re ready to take on that?"
"What happened to Gustav and the rest? Too little a challenge for your almighty Limitless Power?"
He said with a shrug, swiping through the opened holographs he had in the air.
"Actually, yes. They’re not a challenge at all."
Whie replied after a pause.
"Hey, I saw that fight you had with Inumaki."
"Huh?"
"We instructors see broadcasts of all your fights, you know? And even though you acted tough and refused medical attention, anyone with eyes can tell you took quite a beating."
He said, and it was White’s turn to pause.
He could see it; the instructor wasn’t going to take this seriously, and in the end, he could only grow more aggressive.
"I do have to agree with your points. Inumaki was indeed a challenge yesterday and did me some pretty bad damage."
"But since you watched the fight, what stage was I yesterday fighting Inumaki?"
He asked.
"First Star Realm?"
The man replied, still tapping on the interface.
"And what level am I now?"
White followed
"Obviously first Star Realm?"
He replied, but then he paused, as the question occurred to him.
Why would White be asking what stage he was now, when he obviously knew it himself?
His eyes behind the spectacles focused on White, most especially at his chest.
A few seconds of silence, and then he took his glasses off.
Rubbing his eyes, he blinked twice before turning to stare at White’s chest once more.
"What the? Late Star Realm!? You’ve reached Late Star!?"
He asked in disbelief.
"So... you still think Gustav and the rest are going to be a challenge to me now?"
White asked, and the instructor’s brow furrowed before shrugging.
"Still doesn’t mean you’re ready to take on a second year," he said, continuing with the interface.
"See, Instructor Iritis, I’m not fighting for the sake of being better than everyone and needing a bigger challenge."
"Oh, really? What are you fighting for then?"
"Let’s just say it may have something to do with my Limitless Essence."
"Hmm-hmm."
"See, it adapts to power. It’s like the stronger the opponent’s power, the stronger it grows too."
"I fought Inumaki, who suddenly exhibited an unbelievable amount of strength for someone who is an unawakened. Special thanks to his weird Otherworld summon, Irasul."
"I feel like my Limitless Essence adapted to that, and now I’m in the Late Stage."
"I just want to confirm if my hypothesis is true, and for that reason, I need to fight someone who is obviously much, much stronger, to see if my Limitless Energy does in fact adapt, or if it’s just a one-time luck."
"This... I want to get to know more about my essence energy."
"You know how difficult controlling Limitless is as an energy, don’t you?"
He said, and the man paused with a hum, before asking—
"What are you, by the way?"
"Huh?"
"Are you from the True Limitless Family or an outcast?"
He asked, and White’s eyes shrank before replying,
"An outcast."
"Oh, I guess that makes sense then. You’ll have to figure everything out about Limitless on your own. So, you do have a point in wanting to experiment."
He said, finally closing up all the interface and walking to White.
He reached him, his hand finding its way to White’s shoulder.
The man was tall.
Really tall, as even though White was 1.9 meters, he was easily twice a head taller.
"Since I did say I owe you one, and it’s obvious you’re not doing this for ego’s sake, I’ll do this."
He said, and White smiled.
"Thank you, Instructor."
"Your opponent is the Top 6 on the 2nd Year Cyber Ranking, and he controls Limitless too."
He added, and White’s smile dropped as the man continued to the exit.
"What?"
"Also..."
Instructor Iritis continued, reaching the exit.
"He might not like you, since, unlike you, he’s a true family member of the Limitless Clan. I’ll advise you to bring your A-game to the fight. I’ll send you a message once he’s ready."
Right after, the man faded into motes of light, air rustling and shutting the door.
All that remained was White, who stood there dumbly before a fact occurred to him.
"Shit! I forgot to tell him I’ve only got 70 hours."
White mused, but then he shrugged it off.
If he had said that, he must be fighting just two days from now. It would have seemed suspicious.
"I guess I can only wait for his message then," he thought before also rising, moving to the exit.
He had only walked 10 minutes away from the subject area when
DRIIING!
DRIIIING!
His runic watch rang, and White turned to it, his eyes glowing from the message.
[He’s up for It.]
[Tomorrow, 8:00 at the 2nd Year Challenge Area.] 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
White’s smile widened into a grin.
"Nice... Very nice."
