Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening-Chapter 133: Abrupt endings
"Where to now?"
Dorian asked Lucian’s cloaked figure.
"To complete this mission!"
Lucain replied looking at the darkness of space up in the sky, and the stars which illuminated their surroundings.
"Hmm. I’ll come with you. I owe you one, we all do"
Dorian said, referring to both he and his organization.
"No need. I’ll cash in that favor another day. Till then, I’ll be off!"
Lucian said, stepping onto the terminal.
He had spent way more time then needed at C-3. After making quick work kf Technix, they had to preform a clean up, as there had been sightings of some monsters, presumably those that night have escaped during the fight at the facility.
After a quick round with them, Zeryl promised to take care of the remaining strays. It was their planet now and the issue of the monsters had officially become theirs to handle.
Now, Lucian could move on and complete the rest of his mission.
There were several planets between C-3 and D-6, and each of them had reported the same monster sightings.
Lucian didn’t try to go around with out each and every monster both on open and hiding. He went for the factories that produced them.
The factories could be found not on every planet, but some. Manufacturing the beasts and spreading them to the surrounding planets just like the one at C-3 did.
Lucian simply went on a rampage, abandoning any intent of stealth as be burnt their buildings to the ground.
The security in each of those factories kept increasing as he came across them. They were becoming more prepared for the wild person whi had been poking his head into their business.
Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough. Lucian always managed to find a way to sneak in and turn them to ashes.
Battles like the one at C-3 rarely occurred as he made sure to eliminate the threat before they could be activated.
One thing he felt was odd though was the fact that no matter how brutally he brought down each factory nor the amount of messang34s he had sent to the next factory, they never made the decision to pack up and leave before he arrived, shut down their works temporarily.
They chose to fight. A stupid move to Lucian as all they did was lay their lives down pointlessly.
"How come they haven’t interfered!"
Lucian wondered.
The closer he got to D-6, the more sophisticated, advanced and larger the work and scale of each factory was.
Each one that he destroyed should have been like a stone in their pocket, yet they let him do what he wanted, even though parts of the other factories he trashed were dedicated to some of their other sections.
"Hmm..."
Lucian could feel the change in atmosphere when he stepped on D-6.
The whole place was unlike he had expected. People could be seen walking around the streets without fear. Stall owners set up their business, waving their hands and running their mouths trying to catch some customers.
D-6 was the first planet he had been to in this section where the inhabitants didn’t carry any weapons on them, at least not openly.
They all moved without worries, and Lucian’s attire with the dark cloak and concealed face made him stand out a little.
Ignoring the abnormality of the whole place, he checked his watch and marked a route to Alcatlain, the place that had been the aim of his mission all along.
"After this, I should dig into those guys too!"
He muttered.
Just because they had handed him some key information, didn’t make them any more trustworthy.
Their goals were unclear, just as much as their identity.
The route to Alcatlain didn’t take him too far, just to a small building still within the settlement.
"Hmm.."
He suppressed the doubt in his heart. After all, he had destroyed factories in different locations and not all of them were built in a desolated place on the planet.
Creak!
The metal door groaned as he pushed it open.
Lucian’s eyes widened as how senses registered the scent of blood and feel of death. Something had happened before he got here.
"Squish!"
His feet stepped on an eye all and using his gear to light up the room, he saw a pool of blood in front of him, the whole room was painted with blood and several dead bodies.
"Hasn’t been quite long!"
Lucian muttered, inspecting the bodies that had been mutilated.
Whatever killed them, it definitely wasn’t a beast as he had thought initially. Their death was caused by a few people of similar power levels.
"One swordsman poison user. A bare handed fighter, and one more person..."
Lucian muttered, using the clues left on the dead bodies to identify those responsible.
From what he could make out, only three people had come in here, at least just three had done the killing.
The swordsman was most likely a poison user, judging from the dark veins and corrosion around the cuts. The ability of the bare handed combatant was unknown, all there was to see on their body were fist marks, like he had killed them with sheer force only.
That was indeed a possibility, if he had a body enhancement ability. As for the last person, they seemed to be a mental ability user, as all those attacked by that ability died with bleeding from their eyes and ears without any sign of physical interference.
Those were the three types of corpses he had identified so far.
"So, 2 males and one felmale?"
He muttered uncertainly, walking deeper into the building while following the trail that lead both up and down.
The entirety of the upper floors of the building had been cleared out. All that remained where drag stains. The bodies had all been moved to the first floor.
With nothing to see up there, he followed the only other available path, the one that lead down.
The smell of blood mixed with bodily fluids from those who must have shit and pissed themselves from fear was even stronger here.
"Yeah, it hasn’t been that long!"
Lucian repeated the same words he said while he was on the ground floor.
The corpses had yet show the visble signs of decomposition. They hadn’t even gone fully cold yet.
Still, Lucian continued along the trail. Checking out the offices and hidden rooms he could find.
Almost everywhere was stained with blood.
Walking over to the cell section of the facility, he also came in contact with the destroyed bodied of several experimental prototypes.
"Hmm?"
Lucian’s attention was captured when he stepped into a large room.
At the center of the room were several equipments and tools stacked on each other, each lost of them bearing the authentic Galacticous touch, at the top of the the tall stack was a data chip.
One similar to the one he had been handed back in Crane City, before he embarked on this journey to D-6.
Inserting the chip into his bracelet, a holographic screen popped up, and the first thing he saw was a message, more like a letter addressed towards him.
<Judging by your advance on the other planets, you should arrive here just after we finished disposing of these scum. You don’t need to worry about fighting, we saved you that stress. This chip also contains all the info they have and in front of you should be enough physical evidence for you to bring those responsible to law.>
<You don’t need to know who we are, detective. All you need to know is that we are putting our trust in you to do things right. You made the correct decision not to involve the D.R.I. Now that there’s sufficient evidence, they have to excuse not to take action. It was nice working with you!>
Lucian’s expression was freezing at the end of the message, and it only got colder the more he read into the information they had complied into the chip.
The mystery was over. Everything was in his hands. It all made sense now, those behind the attacks, the experiments, supporting Lucas, infiltrating Crane city, convincing Galacticous to do something that risky.
It all made sense to him now as he read through the contents of the chip, but that was what didn’t sit well with him. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
The information was right, he could find any fault with it. Yet, the feeling of having all this delivered into his hands by some mysterious people only made him more edgy.
If anything, he had the immense urge to hunt these new guys down and conduct some proper questioning, but he couldn’t.
Tied down and held back by his job and obligations, Lucian had to report his findings to the lord of Crane city first.
Regardless of the Viscount’s next actions, he was going to involve the D.R.I and he was going to make sure those guys came down from their high chair.
"A vassal family, huh? They’ve been getting awfully bolder of late!"
Lucian muttered, walking out of the base. His job here had come to and end. For now at least.
