Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening-Chapter 172: Dormant
"Ughhh!"
The frown on kiwraks face deepened hearing the Jake’s pained groan, but that was no sign to stop. He pressed down harder and continued to push his energy in while beginning to direct it in Jake’s body.
’I’m getting rid of it!’
He wanted to say out loud, feeling the external energy blocking Jake’s pathways being crushed after constant bombardment with his own energy, but he couldn’t yet.
He couldn’t see it with his eyes closed, but with his mirrored perspective, he could still quite well understand what aas happening to him.
The energy pathways in his hands were in shock, and it wouldn’t take long before they gave out. They were never designed to be used that way and Kieran was forceful pumping more energy than he had initially needed.
Why? He lacked control and a lot of the energy he transfered earlier git dissipated the moment they made it out his body and he had to increase his output, even of for a lesser result.
"Hmmmmm!"
Kieran was forced to ignore the burning pain from his hands, which felt like they had ants crawling through them.
His jaws were clenched so bad, they bled yet his mid was fully trained on Jake.
’Just a little more!’
’Just a little more!’
He keep repeating to himself, forcing out any other thoughts, and moments after the concept of time had blurred out for him, he finally stopped, falling to the ground immediately.
"Huff!"
"Huff!"
"Huff!"
Tired pants came forth as he tried to catch his breath as quickly as he could. His mind felt fuzzy, but he coukdnt let himself faint in a place like this.
It was a miracle they hadn’t been attacked by the dormant monsters in the room yet.
With a bitter taste in his mouth, Kieran forced himself to sit upwards, resting against the wall, and looked down on his hands.
They were completely covered in blood, his or Jake? He had no idea, but he could bearly feel them.
The sense of feeling was slowly returning to his hands as he no longer flooded them with energy, but he could only proceed with his hands in a bearly usable condition though.
He wasn’t sure they had much time anyways, the monster aura in the room had increased while he was treating Jake and while he had no idea what that meant, it just felt like the monsters in the room could be closed to completion anytime and could wake up from their slumber.
’I have to finish this quick’
If Kieran was going through this much pain because he was taking energy out of his body, then he couldn’t imagine how much more pain the unconscious Jake was going through.
The twisted expression of pain wasn’t enough to describe.
Unlike the energy of his previous opponents which stuck at the site of the injury and simply prevented him from healing, Kieran’s energy had no such purpose or rather, he didn’t know how to give it one.
Hence, his energy was just running wild in Jake’s body, moving against his flow, disrupting his body and ripping through his pathways.
If he didn’t so something fast, Jake’s pathways were going to take a lot of damage and he was most likely going to get crippled.
It was a race against time and he had unknowingly, while trying to save his friend, put him in a significantly worse situation.
Looking at the bright side, a known enemy was several times better than an unknown one.
It was his energy running rampant, and even outside his body, he still had some control over it.
Kieran looked at his hands again and sighed, his brain spinning rapidly to see if there was another way.
He had to absorb his energy into himself through direct contact just like he had sent it out. His hands were the most obvious way to do this, but the pathways there were damaged and he wasn’t quite sure he found handle another uncontrollable surge going through them again.
The only other place he could use in this moment was his mou–
’Fuck it! They’ll heal!!’
Kieran shook his head vigorously. There was no way he was going to that. He even hated the fact that he had even thought of that.
"Hell no!"
Riding the wave, Kieran placed his barely working hands back on Jake’s torso and with the connection established, he closed tried to feel once more for Jake’s energy pathways and flows.
He quickly went through this and spotted some balls of energy running rampant, like wild dogs in unknown territory. That was his energy and with this mental sense, he tried to probe them and strengthen the rapidly weakening connection between them.
If that connection broke completely, it was the end for the unconscious Jake!
This process didn’t cause him any physical pain, well not yet. But it was mentally draining and the pressure to get this done before the damage became extreme weighed down on him even further.
"Ughhh!"
Beads of sweat rolled down his head, and his body had long since become soaked with sweat as he sat in the same spot, unmoving, like a statue.
’Now!’
Kieran’s mind sharpened the moment he made the connection and pulled as fast and hard as possible before he lost control again.
"AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!"
His head shot up in pain, feeling a huge surge of energy rip through the already damaged pathways in his hands.
It felt like eternity, as he fought hard not to rip his hands off Jake’s body from the immense pain and at a point, he have up but still his hands didn’t come off no matter how much he tired.
If felt like they were glued on. In actuality, he had just lost his ability to move his hands and was slowly losing all feeling associated with his hands. All sensations except pain.
That was the last thing he felt before his vision blacked out completely.
.....
"!!"
Kieran’s eyes flashed open and his aura swept out in alert sweeping the area around him.
’I can’t believe I fainted’
"You wouldn’t want to wake out hosts, would you?"
"Most of them are dead either ways"
Jake’s voice came calmly from his side and Kieran turned to see him in a new pair of clothes, sitting cross legged with closed eyes.
His aura was flowing continuously around him, weak but recovering. At a decent pace too.
"What do you mean dead."
Kieran tried to push himself up with his hands before getting shocked by a huge jolt of pain.
"Tssss!"
He winced, looking down on his hands which had been covered in bandages up to his shoulders.
Ignoring the pain which settled down just after, he looked to the middle of the room where the numbers of monsters had reduced drastically, leaving just a third of the original amount alive.
"Did you do that?"
"No. You should seen it."
"Their aura rose like they were about to wake up, but they suddenly turned hollow and shriveled like they had been sucked dry before falling to the ground and turning to dust."
Jake recounted what had happened while he was unconscious.
"How long was I out?"
"Not long, about 15 minutes or so"
Kieran felt the shock run through him when he heard that. About two-thirds of the monsters here had gone through that in that short time.
To think Jake also had a root attached to his leg earlier.
’This is a farm.’
Kieran finally managed to place a purpose on this place.
Whatever those roots were, they were taking away the energy of the monster’s once they were complete, like plucking fruits of a tree immediately thay turned ripe.
"Oh, don’t touch the roots on the walls and floors too"
Jake added, and Kieran noticed the claw marks kn the walls and floor around them. Jake had cut it all off. He didn’t do that back them cause he saw no meaning to it and it was a rather urgent situation.
"Why?"
They absorb your energy just by being in contact with them. It’s not as efficient as being attached to one of them and it was pretty to miss until those monster’s started dropping dead"
"If you stayed for too long, you would’ve collapsed without knowing any strength to struggle. You know the rest"
"Haa!"
He let out a deep sigh before opening his eyes.
’Hmm? Why is he like that?’
Jake wondered looking at the dark expression on Kieran’s face.
He finally understood why he had been led here. He haf initially thought of it as an ambush—a group of monsters lying in wait to overwhelm him with their numbers, but he became lost when he saw them all frozen like statues.
It made no sense that he had been led there, where he could kill off the monsters while they were unresponsive.
Whichever creature was behind this was not only good, but pretty greedy too, wanting to absorb both he and Jake rather than killing them.
But there was one odd thing about the actions of this moster of theirs.
It never acter directly, using illusions and monsters under its control to guide and force them on certain paths. It’s actions were,
"Too dormant."
