Narika: The Ghost Bride-Chapter 50 - Fifty: Everything Is Business To you!
"So, you don’t remember anything at all?" The question was directed to Miguel, who had an icepack to his jaw that was swollen with him, having no idea how he came about with the injury.
He had woken up to find himself in his bed, the difficulty that came with standing up was caused by the pain in his back. The series of questions roaming through his head, was suddenly cut short when his eyes landed on his bruised face.
No matter how hard he tried to think of what happened, this brain was playing jokes on him because it was blank. Nothing was there, and that did leave him all confused and pissed off too.
No one could come about his injury, neither did the security guards who had looked at him as if he had gone crazy, when he had walked in to check the cctv to find out the hidden truth.
Right now, he was in the sitting room answering to Jason, who was bothered about his look until his eyes landed on Vanessa, she looked away from him immediately their eyes met each other.
That action, only gingered his curiosity to suspect that she had a hand in what happened, but he’s still not very sure since the blow to his face doesn’t look like what a fragile woman like her would do to him.
"Miguel, are you still here?" Jason asked for the second time, when he noticed that his mind wasn’t here with him.
"Yes boss. I’m sorry." Miguel apologized, but Jason was too tired to ask him what was wrong with him, all he wanted was to get this all done with and get some rest. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Vanessa baby, come" He called for her, to which she left the company of her mother who had this scowl on her face, after seeing her father walk in moments ago.
"Father," Vanessa pecked his cheeks, going about to stay at his side. She still wasn’t looking at Miguel, while saying a silent prayer that Adrik’s powers worked on him so that he wouldn’t regain his memory, because it would be bad if he does so.
"I’m sorry that i wasn’t able to throw a big party for your arrival..." Jason Ivanov started, holding her hand into his while gushing at the sight in front of him. His daughter...the apple of his eyes.
"So in order to make it up to you. The president’s son is celebrating his birthday to which we got invited."He added.
"I still don’t see how that concerns me,"Vanessa sassed, rolling her eyes because she knew exactly what he was trying to portray but she still believed that he wouldn’t be so dumb, to do the same thing that caused her brother’s life to her too.
"We got invited, well actually you got invited. So, you take it as a cue to leave the house since i haven’t been kind enough to let you leave, you know...campaigns going on..."
"You can’t risk putting me in danger, yeah i got it." She completed for him, sometimes age just wished that he wasn’t vying for that position. To be the next president of the country, but who is she to tell her father what to do?
It’s already alarming that he’s got himself a big name in the business, which had caused Adrik’s life, so she understands the need for him to protect her from harm since he’s going for something more big than just being a renowned tycoon.
"Exactly. Thanks for understanding, so i hope..."Jason was a little bit too excited for this birthday, until she crushed that excitement with her next word.
"I’m not going." Vanessa said flatly, crossing her hand over her chest. This time her eyes met that of Miguel’s that was stationed right at her chest.
Pervert!
She cursed, before looking back at her dad while trying to curtail her anger." I’m not going to his party. Be him the president’s son or not."
"Why?" Jason asked, looking a little pissed off. Miguel took this as his cue to leave the both of them." Vanessa baby..."
"Do you think i don’t understand what you are trying to do?" Vanessa spat.
"It’s just a birthday party," Jason lied, snacking his teeth together while trying to control his anger. He can’t hurt his child, his only child? Nah!
"No, it’s a date covered up as a birthday party. Oh father please, spare me the explanation. We both know what you are trying to do, I’m not dumb." She scoffed.
"Well since you know, you are going on that date and there’s nothing you can do about it."Jason said with finality, looking towards where his wife, Marilyn, was to see that she’s no longer there.
"It’s not even been a month im back, and now you are trying to sell me off," Vanessa said, her voice breaking down. She was on the verge of crying.
"It’s just a date sweetheart, I’m not selling my babygirl off.."
"Well that’s what you are doing." She shouted, wiping her tears that rolled from the corner of her eyes before continuing." Adrik lost his life because of this..."
"No, you do not involve your brother in this." Jason warned her.
"Well i want to. Everyone’s been acting as if everything is fine since he died, as if you weren’t involved with his death."
This was the last straw that broke the camel’s back, because Jason banged his hands down on the counter that hosted his wine cellar.
"I didn’t kill him!" He barked. " Your brother chose to be stupid, and fell in love with the enemy’s daughter. So tell me how i was involved with his death?"
"You know all he wanted was a normal life, to be with her. But you couldn’t give him a breathing space and had him engaged to some British princess for power. Everything is business to you!!"
"Shut up Vanessa before i make you!" Jason warned, with his hands raised up in the air. He was pushed to hit her, but he couldn’t until they both heard Marilyn’s cries.
She was crying for Adrik, again.
"This is not over, and you will go on that date whether you like it or not," He said lastly, and left for Adrik’s room. The only place he knew his wife would be crying for their dead son.
Meanwhile, Vanessa stood immobile watching his retreating figure. She wiped the tears from her face before turning to leave for her room, only to hit a wall.
But it wasn’t a wall...it was Miguel’s chest.
"Are you okay?" He asked, his green eyes piercing through her blue one’s in concern that she didn’t know whether they were genuine or what.
Afterall he works for her father, and if her father says that she’s going to that date. He’s going to do everything to get her there.
So, with nothing being said she left him there. But not without taking note of his injury, Adrik sure has done a lot to his face, but maybe he deserved it.
