Chapter 59: Lord Kael And Admiral Lazarus

The carriage moved at a moderate speed. In the forefront, a knight rode with the flag of the royal emblem. They chose the public route, even though the distance traveled was longer so that if Arielle wanted to rest, they could stop at the nearest village.

Apart from that, the mountain trails were not suitable for carriages. The existing shortcut road was not very level, and Ronan didn’t want Arielle to feel uncomfortable on her first trip at Northendell.

Arielle lifted the window curtains to take in the view outside the carriage. Outside, the entire ground was covered in white snow. Some trees also had white leaves.

There was almost no other color than white. It seemed like they were traveling on a hilly road because Arielle didn’t see any houses around.

"May I open the window?" Arielle asked the apprentice priest.

"If that’s what you wish, I can’t refuse," he replied politely.

"Thank you...." Arielle did not know who the teenager was. "What’s your name?"

The young boy blinked briefly and glanced at the old woman beside the princess. Tania nodded, giving the teenager permission to answer.

"Namina, Princess."

Arielle chuckled at the blushing child.

"Which one can you use, heat or light mana?" she asked curiously.

"Just the heat mana, Your Highness. I was assigned so that you and your maid would not catch a cold during the trip."

"Have you ever been in such extreme conditions at your young age?" asked Arielle worriedly.

She estimated the boy was only thirteen or fourteen years old. His black hair was neatly cut short. He also wore a crystal necklace that could be used to store heat or light, as Priest Jill once explained the other day.

"I don’t know for sure what happened. I have spent my whole years in the Cathedral. Priest Elis and Priest Jill said I was found near an orphanage nearby. Because I didn’t cry, the orphanage people didn’t notice the baby in the basket that was left there. And it just so happened that there was a blizzard that night."

He continued his story, "They found me the next day with a very hot body temperature, so they immediately took me to the Cathedral authority. Because the flow of mana in my body has been opened, Priest Elis recruited me to be one of the apprentice priests. And I learned a lot from Priest Elis."

"Oh...!" Arielle gasped.

She was saddened to hear that a teenager had gone through such a hard thing since he was a baby. Arielle also felt sympathetic.

Even though Namina had earned a decent life in the palace, deep down, he must have asked who his parents were. Who would throw away a pure baby who didn’t know the world yet?

Arielle felt deep sympathy for Namina. She understood exactly how the boy must be feeling. Even though she lived in the palace, she often wondered who her mother was...

Why did she decide that Arielle be left alone with her father? Even if her mother was only from the farthest, rural village, Arielle thought that the life there would still be better for her.

With her mother, she could have lived a far more satisfying life than live in a palace that was not at all friendly to her....

"Are you happy with your current life?" Arielle asked Namina.

The young boy quickly nodded as he gave her a wide smile, showing his white teeth.

"I was fortunate to have met Priest Elis and become his disciple. I’m also lucky to be able to live in the palace because the food there is better than the one at the orphanage."

Arielle smiled too. Typical of a child’s answer, she thought.

"His Majesty King Ronan is also leading the kingdom very well. I really admire him... Even though he can be really scary sometimes."

"Scary?" asked Arielle. "What do you mean?"

Namina covered his mouth quickly. Oof, he was too comfortable talking with Arielle that he almost talked nonsense to the princess. Namina racked his brains quickly and tried to figure out what kind of excuse he could make or change the subject.

"His Majesty has fought dragons... I think that someone who has fought dragons cannot be underestimated. He is the strongest man in all of the North and the mainland of Forsham."

Arielle nodded in agreement.

"Then, isn’t His Majesty worried about leaving the palace empty?" she decided to ask Namina.

"You don’t need to worry princess, in the North, His Majesty the King is not the only one who is strong and powerful. We have the greatest warrior knight’s order under the leadership of the greatest knight named Lord Kael. We also have the greatest fleet leader named Admiral Lazarus." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Lord Kael and Admiral Lazarus? Who are they? And why have I never seen them? I thought William was the strongest knight in the North after His Majesty?"

"Master William is indeed very strong. However, he is in charge of diplomatic affairs while Lord Kael is indeed tempered to lead the Northern army as the representative of the king. Lord Kael is the only person who accompanied King Ronan into the dragon’s lair in the Birwick Mountains," Namina explained.

He then added, "Lord Kael came back badly injured. Due to his injuries, Lord Kael doesn’t really like crowds, he is always aloof. Only summoned when there is a war or a commotion."

Arielle nodded her head as she listened to Namina’s story.

Why didn’t anyone tell her about the man? No wonder His Majesty the King left the palace so readily two days ago without telling William because they had someone else looking after the place.

"Then what about Admiral Lazarus?" she asked then.

"Oh, that man would absolutely not return to the palace if not summoned by His Majesty the King. Admiral Lazarus will only spend his time by the sea. Maybe only once a year, they would all get together. His Majesty the King, Master William, Lord Kael, and Admiral Lazarus. Usually, they would meet on His Majesty the King’s birthday."

Only the four of them? Didn’t Lucas and Priest Elis also spend a lot of time with the king?

"Then what about Lucas and Priest Elis?" Arielle became more curious.

"They do often join in the royal affairs, but they don’t belong to the four pillars. The four pillars were built by His Majesty the king because the four of them were friends from childhood. Mister Lucas is their junior while Priest Elis studied at the Cathedral since childhood with Priest Louise, his father."

"They sound absolutely incredible," said Arielle.

"They’re really amazing," replied Namina, confirming this.

Arielle tried to compare what happened in Nieverdell. In the south, they lived very prosperously. Even Arielle wasn’t sure they got a navy fleet.

Arielle stretched her hand out to feel the wind. Even though it didn’t snow, one or two snowflakes fell into her hands as she passed through the area with few trees.

Ronan rode peacefully behind the carriage where Arielle was. He tilted his head slightly at the girl’s outstretched hand. He chuckled in amusement as the girl waved her cold hand once a pile of snow dropped onto her hand as they passed a snowy tree.
