Chapter 60: Is This Love?

Night fell fast, and they were only halfway through. The royal entourage rested at a nearby inn.

The innkeeper looked so surprised to see people dressed in iron armor approach his inn. With their limited human resources, the innkeeper immediately told his employee to clean up the inn to receive the royal guests.

The old man and his two daughters bowed respectfully as Ronan entered the inn. The king checked the suitability of the place to ensure that Arielle could rest comfortably. Although not luxurious, the inn was quite clean, and there was no gap

for the night breeze to enter.

It was warm enough for Arielle. He nodded in satisfaction. Ronan then gave orders for his knights to take turns guarding outside. Arielle and Tania occupied the best room the inn had.

After he warmed up Arielle’s room, Namina was summoned to warm up some of the knights who were sitting together downstairs.

Arielle was enjoying her hot soup with Tania in the room when she heard a loud cheer from downstairs. Her eyes widened momentarily. It looked like the males were planning something exciting. Were they perhaps drinking or doing something else?

The girl glanced curiously at Tania, who laughed lightly.

"Northern people aren’t even tired at all despite having ridden all day in the cold like this," said Tania as she finished her meal.

"Tania, don’t you think that we might be slowing them down?" asked Arielle.

"What do you mean, Princess?"

"Er... I’m really excited to visit this Frostmount Village. However, I feel my presence is slowing them down. If I don’t come along, maybe they will continue their journey and will be able to arrive at their destination faster," she replied, looking disheartened.

Tania gripped the princess’s hand tightly.

"Hearing their laughter just now, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind taking a break for a while. And after all, His Majesty the King himself asked us to rest."

"Is that so?"

Arielle still felt bad.

Tania told the girl to lie down after the food was finished, and Arielle complied. She closed her eyes, but even though it had been a while, Arielle couldn’t get to sleep. She saw Tania, who was still seated in her chair. The old woman also needed to lie down. Tania should not treat her body like when she was young, thought Arielle.

"Tania. Come here," said Arielle.

The girl opened the blanket that covered her and then shifted slightly to the edge of the bed. The room in this inn reminded her of her own room in Nieverdell. It was very simple and basic.

It only needed one large wooden window and a few scattered painting supplies, and this room would almost seem like her own room.

Tania then slept beside Arielle. The princess took Tania’s hand and made it a sleeping pillow. She hugged her tightly, which made Tania chuckle softly.

"I still can’t believe you’ve grown this big," said the old woman.

Arielle pursed her lips, looking sullen. "I’ll be nineteen soon, Tania."

Tania gently stroked Arielle’s hair, and finally, the girl slowly started to yawn.

"Right. Does that mean we’ve been together for nineteen years?"

Arielle tightened her arms and nodded. "Thank you for taking good care of me."

"It’s an honor for me, princess."

Arielle was really grateful to have met Tania. She was the person to whom she could tell her stories, be it happy or sad. If she was happy, then she would share her happiness with Tania. And if she was sad, Tania would always be near her to hug her tightly while telling her that everything would be fine.

Tania was never married. Arielle did not know the reason why the woman didn’t marry. Even though there was no prohibition for the servants in the palace of Nieverdell to get married. Many of the maids that Arielle knew were married to guards in the palace or people from their village.

"Tania ... I feel so grateful that I met you, as well as the servants in Nieverdell," said Arielle which made the old woman feel touched.

"Thank you, Princess."

Arielle really loved Tania. Arielle thought she would feel empty without Tania’s presence.

Wait a minute... Arielle remembered her inner conflict lately. She did not dare to tell Tania because she was embarrassed. But she needed advice... or answers.

Arielle bit her thumb, thinking, should she tell Tania what she was feeling?

"You’re biting your thumb again. Is there something troubling your mind, Your Highness?" asked Tania worriedly.

"Tania... I need your help."

"Yes?"

Arielle thought for a moment but decided to just tell her maid. Tania was her confidante, and surely Tania would help her solve this problem.

"Tania... if I like you... why doesn’t my heart beat faster, just like when I am with His Majesty the King?"

"Huh?"

Arielle let go of her arms and looked at Tania with sad eyes.

"I don’t know this new feeling, Tania."

"What kind of feeling?"

Arielle looked up at the ceiling and tried to find the right words to describe her feelings.

"My heart is beating really fast, Tania. Sometimes it makes me nervous. I don’t hate his presence, even though it often overwhelms me. I continue to want to be with him. Whether it’s just to sit down together or talk about trivial things."

"Are you falling in love with His Majesty the King?" asked Tania quickly, making Arielle freeze on the spot.

"F-falling in love?"

"Yes, love," said the woman, who was also surprised that the princess harbored a crush for the king.

Arielle batted her eyes. She felt strange with the term Tania used to describe her feelings.

Love? It felt like the word was too strong to describe her feelings. Arielle had heard the word love before. However, the girl did not really understand the meaning of the word itself.

Her heart was beating so fast at the thought of the word love. She patted her own cheek lightly when she felt her cheeks heat up.

Is this real?
