Chapter 674: The Interview

The questions asked in the interview were mostly about the daily life of the prospective students. Irene had prepared her answer very carefully. Aimee even helped her to stay calm and gave the answer she should have. So did William, as a legal guardian of the princess, he answered several questions very convincingly.

Although everyone there asked politely because Irene was a royal princess, there was someone who made William a little annoyed. The man was one of the members of the school directors at the academy. Sir Romario Altez, the younger brother of William’s mother which meant that the man was his uncle.

The Altez Family became one of the surviving families in the north. Even though their family son-in-law, D Ashryver had long since left Northendell, they still stayed here.

They always acted like they were part of the royal family because one of their family members, William’s mother, married one of the royal’s great-grandsons. William had always hated his family from his mother’s side, but they hadn’t done anything that crossed the line so far, so there was no reason for Ronan or William to drive them out of the North.

Romario, his uncle, leaned forward.

"Lord William. If I may ask, what duties does His Majesty the King have that he can’t spare his precious time to accompany his biological sister for this important day?" Romario asked in a polite tone even though his words were not, and it made William get irritated.

"I cannot convey this to the public. Haven’t we repeated this question?" William replied firmly. He still clearly remembered that he had said that Ronan couldn’t come because the man had a royal duty that could not be abandoned. That was why William came as a representative.

"How about Her Highness the Queen? Can’t she spare her time for her sister-in-law too?"

"Her Highness the queen was newly crowned recently. Northendell didn’t have a queen in a long time, so there’s a lot of work currently being taken care of by Queen Arielle in order to fill the vacant of the queen’s seat in many years."

"But, this concerns the royal princess’ importance, which is also part of her duties as a queen. Am I right? Isn’t Princess Irene’s education also important? Besides, where has the princess been for three years? Why did she only attend the academy after she passed the appropriate age?"

"The king and queen have conveyed that all this time Princess Irene’s body condition did not allow her to go to public school."

"How about now? Are you already fine?" asked Romario while looking at the princess.

"Yes. I am very healthy now. I already have a lot of energy to participate in every activity in the academy."

"Hm ..."

A teacher raised his hand to ask, and the school directors allowed him to ask.

"I am a physical education teacher. Are you sure that you have completely recovered so you can take part in all the academy activities?"

"Yes. I am very confident."

"Princess, please be honest. Are you really sure about the condition of your body? I’m afraid that after you attend our academy, something will happen to you and make the king issue an order to change the curriculum."

Irene didn’t understand what one of the school directors was saying. She turned toward William. She didn’t learn about this, so she couldn’t answer it.

"Are you underestimating the wisdom of His Majesty the King? Princess Irene came here to register with the permission of many. If the king’s decision states that Princess Irene is capable enough to attend the school here, it means that she is eligible to enter. I believe that a great academy like Edelweiss Academy is a place that is fair and adheres to the vision and mission that has been built by its predecessors. Thus, I believe you will definitely assess everything objectively," William answered.

William glanced at Mrs. Churchill who had been silent all this time. The woman was impartial and fair. Why did she just keep silent? Why didn’t she reprimand Romario for spouting nonsense like that?

"Of course, because we adhere to the vision and mission of this school, we ask several questions because for all these years, this case almost never happens. Is Mr. William willing to accept a few more questions?"

William smiled a little at his uncle. "With pleasure, Director," he replied politely.

Romario stood up again and placed a piece of paper on William’s desk. Irene glanced and saw the paper containing her exam result she could see so clearly. She frowned when she saw something she couldn’t believe. Her heart was pounding fast and her hands were starting to sweat with worry.

"We have got the scores for Princess Irene’s entrance exam. Princess Irene has perfect scores for multiple choice but is totally wrong for essays. It’s a shame, since both grades carry the same weight. Princess Irene’s score is still below our academy’s standards."

A panicked Irene grabbed William’s hand. "I... I have answered it as best I can," whispered the child in a trembling voice.

"Which teacher taught you, Princess?" Romario asked Irene. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Sir Ferguson Altez, Sir," Irene replied weakly.

"Ah... my father... is also a former excellent headmaster. It’s a shame you learn from a great person, yet fail miserably."

William read the essay written by Irene. Irene’s writing might not be very neat. The child had only learned to write for the last month and to write an essay with many paragraphs like this should deserve an extra score.

William read Irene’s essay carefully and adapted it to the questions. The more he read the more confused he became. How could Irene get zero?

"I find nothing wrong here? Princess Irene has answered correctly. They are brief, clear, and detailed. How did she get zero!?" William asked in a high tone because he did not find a single mistake there.

Romario shook his head. "Lord William, if you read it more carefully, you will find a lot of misspellings. Many letters are mixed up and most of it uses writing that is not in accordance with the rules."

William growled. What the hell did this mean? He did see a lot of typos in there, but the point was everything Princess Irene had written down was correct! The man stood up to protest, but before he could utter his complaints, Irene interrupted.
