Chapter 690: Visiting Grandma Bertha’s Residence

"I didn’t mean to offend you at all. What I mean is ...."

"I’m not the slightest bit offended. It’s an honor for me if I look adorable in your eyes," the man said, then brought out his wolf ears so suddenly that Arielle gasped.

Ronan also took out his tail that was thick with soft furs and teased Arielle with it. He drew closer and inhaled the scent of his wife’s neck more deeply, making her almost fall backwards. Arielle wrapped her hands around the man’s neck and touched his furry ears which were so warm and fluffy.

Ronan involuntarily sighed at Arielle’s touch on his ear, especially when the girl stroked his tail gently. He wanted to growl peacefully.

Arielle knew that the man still wanted to continue where they were left off before as she felt the string that tied her dress at the back fall off. Arielle then swiftly held the man’s hand and shook her head.

"But we couldn’t do it before..." Ronan whined while looking at his wife with puppy eyes. It made Arielle have to look away because she knew that the man was currently taking advantage of her weakness.

"I know, but we can do it at night, right? We must finish our work soon so we can have a trip next week."

"We can get William to finish it," Ronan replied lightly.

Arielle shook her head, still trying to avert her face so as not to see her husband’s dejected expression. She pulled the ribbon of her dress on Ronan’s hands, wanted to tie it back but the man kept pulling it off again.

"Ah! I forget! I should at least say hello to Arthur before he goes home! Really, I’m such a bad daughter-in-law if I don’t see him when he visits," Arielle said, trying to make an excuse. And it worked! She managed to escape from Ronan’s tight embrace, who half-heartedly let her go.

Ronan was still sitting on the floor all alone, while Arielle had already run away. The man nodded lamenting his fate. Perhaps he was destined to focus on work so as not to delay their trip, which Irene and Arielle had been waiting for.

The day of the trip arrived.

Both Arielle and Irene couldn’t wait to see the sea. The two of them had only seen a large lake, but they had never seen the actual sea. Even Arielle also taught Irene about the sailors’ song which she had memorized very well since she was little.

They had also been informed if they were going to visit one of the relatives, namely Grandmother Bertha’s residence which had become William’s and Lazarus’ nightmare.

Ronan knew that they wouldn’t be received with open arms, so it was Arielle and Irene who would be the ones encouraging Grandmother Bertha so the old woman would be willing to meet him again.

Arielle had brought a pack of chocolate which Arthur said was his grandmother’s favorite dessert that he had brought every time he visited the woman.

Initially, William and Lazarus disagreed with the visit because they remembered how Grandmother Bertha had treated them. What’s more, Arielle and Irene only visited together without supervision. They were afraid that Grandmother Bertha would punish the two girls in the torture room without them knowing.

William and Lazarus were worried and panicked because of their childhood trauma, so they forgot that Arielle had fought a wolf alone.

Grandmother Bertha’s residence was in the south, which was warmer than any other places in the North. Entering a dense forest full of white trees as well as piles of snow, Arielle could see a white owl perched on a tree branch to a small deer running between the trees.

The carriage got a bit bumpy because the road had quite a lot of turns as they arrived near the banks of a fairly swift river. Then, after a long journey on unpleasant roads, they arrived at a large manor with tall stone walls that looked like a fortress.

The road led to a ditch, and after waiting for a while, the giant wooden bridge was slowly lowered down so that the horse and carriage could cross.

Ronan helped his wife get off the carriage. All the troops at Grandmother Bertha’s residence had been notified that there was a visit from the king and queen. Irene followed behind with Aimee and Kael.

Meanwhile, William and Lazarus stopped at one of the inns they went through because based on a decision the two of them had agreed on, they did not want to get involved in Grandmother Bertha’s matter anymore.

"Will William and Lazars be okay?" Arielle asked her husband as they walked towards the gate.

"Of course. If they are hungry, they will be forced to join us. They don’t even have their moneybags with them," Ronan replied simply, making Arielle feel sorry for the two men.

The guards announced Ronan’s and Arielle’s arrival, and one of the guards knelt before them. He apologized for not getting permission to open the gate. As Grandmother Bertha’s orders, all the royal family was told to return to the palace.

Arielle handed the pack of chocolate to the guard.

"Could you leave this to Grandmother Bertha? We will wait for the answer once again here," she said with a subtle smile.

"Your Highness, I am only carrying out orders."

"And the orders of the queen are the same as the orders of the king. It’s absolute," said Ronan, making the man bow his head deeply.

"I will try to convey it again, Your Majesty," replied the guard who then received the pack of chocolate that Arielle had brought.

"Thank you," Arielle said, making the man fall silent for a moment. Then, he returned to conveying the message and delivering the chocolate to Grandmother Bertha.

The guards there also did this over ten years ago. When the crown prince visited his grandmother to invite the woman to his coronation ceremony, it was refused outright and he had to return to the palace empty-handed.

Now they faced each other again. Of course they would immediately open the gate if the king ordered it. However, as a person working under someone else’s orders, they wanted to appear to be putting in more effort.

After waiting a few minutes, the guard returned while running.
