Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 93: Alexis And Andrea
***
A horse-drawn carriage that bore the crest of the Kingdom of Nieverdell and several escort horses had crossed the border between North and South. They proceeded at a moderate pace.
The snow that covered the road didn’t stop them. The carriage continued to move smoothly.
In the carriage, Prince Alexis was reading his book. He tried to keep himself from complaining about his sister, Andrea. They had been riding for three days and three nights from the South to the North which as far as the eye could see, was always covered with snow.
Andrea had put on her warmest clothes but still, the wind of the North could come in, which had made her always cold since they arrived.
"I hope Arielle can survive in the cold like this. Don’t let us come just to see the girl frozen and motionless," Andrea said as she pulled her jacket closer.
Alexis frowned.
"Brother, don’t you feel cold?" the girl asked her brother, Alexis.
"Cold," Alexis replied curtly. The man didn’t try to give Andrea any attention at all. He kept his focus on reading the book.
Alexis and Andrea were born from Queen Rosalie, which meant they had equal standing in the palace. The two of them were at the top of King Hugo’s ten-children hierarchy. Therefore, no one dared to refuse their wishes.
Alexis himself had confirmed his position as the Crown Prince and the heir to the king’s throne. Andrea had also been crowned as the Crown Princess.
Therefore, until the age of twenty-five, Andrea had not yet been betrothed to any men by the king. It was because of Andrea’s position, which meant she cannot be married off to any random nobleman.
Andrea didn’t mind that either. She actually thought of herself as too perfect for ordinary nobles. She came to the North because one of her agendas was to see what the Northern nobles were like. Queen Rosalie once suggested that she introduce Andrea to King Petra of Wolgast, but it seemed that the man was not interested in women.
"I hope we can get a replacement wolf soon," said Andrea, who got a nod of approval from Alexis.
"We can only hope that Arielle doesn’t do anything bad in the North so we can bring the girl back unharmed. I’ll take care of the deal with Duke Pellington once we get back from the North," replied Alexis.
"Being a prisoner... It’s a shame for our younger sister." Andrea’s words made Alexis’s eyebrows rise.
"Since when did you think of Arielle as your sister?" asked Alexis.
Andrea just laughed at his question. "Of course, since Arielle was brought by our father into the palace. Didn’t you defend her by saying that Arielle is our father’s daughter? Why do you look surprised?"
Alexis laughed wryly. Andrea was not the type of person to love or worry about Arielle. The girl turned out to still hold a grudge against him when he defended Arielle more than her.
Andrea was the first to call Arielle the witch’s daughter because of her hair color, and the older Alexis stopped Andrea and his other siblings from abusing Arielle.
And there was one more thing that remained a mystery to Alexis. He always wondered what Andrea and his other siblings did to Arielle on Andrea’s birthday night. It was the incident that made Arielle disappear in the forest. The next day, she was found in a tattered dress.
Yup, Alexis was sure it was Andrea’s action, even though she didn’t confess to the king. He knew the king would defend Andrea more, and his defense of Arielle would become a thing of the past.
Alexis closed his book and then looked at the scenery outside the window. He didn’t hate Arielle just because Arielle was the illegitimate child of his father, Alexis just didn’t care about silly things like that.
In a rational sense, for him, Arielle was never going to be able to interfere with his status as the king’s first son as well as a potential heir to the throne. Therefore, he did not participate in the bullying of the girl as much as his other siblings.
Nieverdell was also abundant enough that they didn’t need to even worry about material things, so he never understood the need to fight amongst them.
And when he thought about the matter that pertained to Arielle being married to Duke Pellington, he felt it was the right decision. Apart from Duke Pellington being able to further strengthen his position, Duke Pellington was not abusive towards women and treated them well enough.
The proof was with his two current wives. They seemed to get along and didn’t have any scandals, unlike other noblemen. Alexis believed Arielle could definitely get a better life with Duke Pellington than living in the royal palace.
In the palace, Arielle could only play with low-class people, those peasants working as servants. Even after her debutante party, Arielle couldn’t make friends from among the nobility. Once she married Duke Pellington, Arielle could experience the real life of royalty. At least, that was what Alexis thought.
"Whoever the mother is, it couldn’t be denied the fact that Arielle is the daughter of our father, Andrea," said Alexis, which made Andrea snort in displeasure.
"You know, the more you defend her, the more I expect Arielle to get hurt in the North." The answer from Andrea received a sharp glare from Alexis.
"And if Arielle gets hurt, who will take her place in marrying Duke Pellington? You?" asked Alexis sharply.
"And whose fault is it all? If you hadn’t shot a wolf with the arrow, the girl would still be in the South, and we would have married her off to Duke Pellington."
Alexis hated it when Andrea brought up the topic of himself killing a wolf. Alexis slammed his book on the sofa, which made Andrea smile triumphantly because Alexis was unable to reply to her words.
"I hate you, Andrea," Alexis said after he closed his eyes..
Andrea chuckled. "I know you always hated me because you liked Arielle, right?"
"Shut up, or I’ll make dad marry you off to an old man like Duke Pellington," threatened Alexis in a harsh tone. He wanted to close his eyes to fall asleep and forget every word his little sister said.
Andrea laughed once more. "You would never do that," the girl replied.
"Hm," Alexis replied nonchalantly.
