Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 94: Studying In The Royal Library
***
Arielle had finished her breakfast, and so had Ronan.
"Then let’s start studying," said the man.
Ronan tightly gripped Arielle’s hand to come with him. The man did not invite Arielle to study at his desk as usual, but instead, the two of them left the king’s office. Riel, the little rabbit, sat comfortably in the king’s arms.
The two of them walked towards the west wing. Through the hallway full of glass windows, Arielle saw several soldiers who were training in the Colosseum. For as long as Arielle stayed here in the North, the girl had never set foot in the Colosseum, where the soldiers stayed as well as trained.
Arielle continued to follow the king’s steps until the two of them were faced with a large wooden door with intricate plant vines carved on them. A guard bowed respectfully when he saw the arrival of the king with Princess Arielle.
The guard then opened the door for them. And soon, Arielle found herself inside the palace library.
The library looked very spacious and was shaped like a sphere compared to the more angular rooms. Each wall was surrounded by shelves filled with thousands of books of various colors and shapes.
The library was divided into two floors, and on the right, there was a wooden staircase that connected the first and second floors.
Arielle was really amazed because this was her first time seeing a library. The girl wondered in her heart, had the king read all those books? Because for Arielle, who was new to reading, it felt like the time spent reading just one book would take days.
Ronan invited Arielle to go deeper.
"Choose a book you want to read," offered the king.
"Huh? A book? But... I don’t know what book I want to read." Arielle looked around her and she became panicked.
"This is too much," she muttered.
Ronan smiled and led Arielle to a bookshelf located near the glass window. The man propped up his chin as he read each title on the spines of the books.
He decided to take a book with a green leather cover. The title in front of it was written in gold ink. Ronan then gave the book to Arielle.
The girl started to spell the words one by one.
"1001 stories over Foresham Mainland."
Ronan nodded and confirmed that she had read correctly.
"I think you will like this book," said Ronan, who then led Arielle to go up to the second floor with him.
Ronan invited Arielle to a wide sofa by the glass window. The purple sofa with gold edging was spacious enough to use for one to lie down. Arielle sat there and looked around her. Ronan put Riel on Arielle’s lap, which left the girl confused.
"Wait here a moment," said Ronan, but before he moved, Arielle grabbed the man’s hand quickly.
"You’re leaving?" asked Arielle. She sounded scared. "I mean, am I going to read a book here alone?"
Ronan touched Arielle’s shoulders and smiled gently. "I’m just going to take something to read from that room and come back here."
Arielle followed Ronan’s line of sight to a steel door located at the end of the second floor. The girl felt embarrassed when she knew she was overreacting. She was just a little afraid of being left alone in the library.
The light from the glass windows around the library was unable to illuminate every dark corner of the library. Arielle felt nervous if she was in a dark room alone. The girl pressed herself against the glass window and released her grip from the king’s hand.
Ronan reached into his key from his pocket then turned around. He temporarily left Arielle with Riel on the sofa. He opened a door he hadn’t touched in years. The musty smell entered his nose. The room was very dark and damp. Ronan could smell the dust wafting around the room, even from behind his mask. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Ronan pulled the small curtains from the windows to let in some light to help him see around the room.
A table where the previous kings wrote their diaries was very dusty. Ronan had neglected the room for quite some time. He began to turn towards the bookshelf and searched for the notes his great-grandfather had made.
The records there were secret records between the former kings. No one was allowed to read the records because they contained the secrets of the kings who kept their wolf side from the eyes of the world.
Ronan looked up the name of his great-grandfather. He took three piles of brown leather-covered books from another pile of books. The books had yellowed, and some of the covers were starting to peel off.
He brought the three books to the window to make sure the books he had picked up were correct.
After he confirmed that the book was written by his great-grandfather, Ronan closed the curtains of the room again and locked the door tightly. The man stepped closer to Arielle and sat on the floor.
"You’re not sitting on the sofa?" asked Arielle, who folded her legs to make room for Ronan to sit with her.
"No need, I’ll just sit there. Just straighten your legs back," said the man.
Ronan looked so focused on reading the book that he had taken, it made Arielle doubt whether she should re-straighten her legs or not.
Arielle continued to watch Ronan. She saw the man who looked really serious as he held the journals. Even so, Arielle still folded her legs and resumed reading the storybook in her hand.
Time passed, and Arielle managed to read two pages at a steady pace as she muttered the words underneath her breath. Ronan himself was still reading his first book.
Suddenly the man let out a long sigh and put his book on the floor. He rested his head on the sofa and stared up at the library ceiling. Arielle lowered her book to return her attention to the king.
"Are you okay?" asked Arielle, quietly worried if she would interfere.
Ronan looked at her for a moment, then shook his head.
"Sorry if I bothered you reading," said the man. He then took back his book to read his great-grandfather’s notes which made him dizzy.
