Chapter 95: Mystery Of The Past

Ronan’s great-grandfather wrote that the man he met had white hair with black irises. The man was found unconscious on Mount Birwick while the knights in charge of guarding the mountain were on patrol.

The priests couldn’t find the source of the mana in the man’s body. The man said that he did not expect to meet a descendant of the God of Amadea.

Ronan frowned as he read the name of the god written on it. He had never heard of Amadea’s name before, in fact, in all the literature he had read so far, no one mentioned that name.

Ronan kept turning the pages of the note and was again confused by the new name.

His grandfather wrote that based on what the white-haired man said, all the kings who ruled Northendell were direct descendants of the god Amadea, along with a queen who was not loved by the king. They were descendants born from revenge.

The man closed his book again after reading the nonsense his grandfather wrote. He once again opened the book to read the paragraph over and over again, trying to understand what it meant. But the man’s efforts ended in vain because no matter how hard Ronan interpreted it, he didn’t understand what the note meant.

Who was this God Amadea? Which queen was not loved by the king? Which king did you mean? Ronan didn’t understand at all.

The man decided to skip that page and read the next page, which noted that the white-haired man displayed a great deal of power to his grandfather. The man opened the layers of barriers in the sky.

"Unlocking the layers in the sky?" muttered the man as he tried to imagine what was going on.

After opening the layer of gray in the sky, the dazzling sunlight burst in so fast. But it brought a new consequence. The man went into a coma for days.

"Huh?"

After spending several days in a coma, the man woke up in the middle of the night and found his grandfather. The note then stated that his great-grandfather helped the man escape back to Mount Birwick. However, the reasons were not written down.

"What can I even do with this?" asked Ronan. He slammed his grandfather’s journal, which made Arielle gasp in surprise.

"Your Majesty... are you all right?" asked Arielle nervously when she saw the anger of the king in front of her.

Ronan raised his eyebrows and nearly forgot that Arielle was still with him.

"I’m just a little dizzy," the man lied. He didn’t want to make Arielle curious about what he was upset about.

Ronan grabbed another of his grandfather’s journals and climbed onto the sofa. He grabbed Riel from Arielle’s lap then rested his head on the girl’s lap. Arielle, who saw Ronan’s restlessness, took the initiative to untie the mask from behind the man’s head.

She gave a small smile to Ronan, who now rested on her lap.

"Thanks for the smile, it makes me feel better," said Ronan as he grabbed Arielle’s loose hair and kissed it. The girl’s face turned red again. She lifted her book to cover her flushed face. Ronan smiled at the nervous Arielle.

The man grabbed Arielle’s hair and watched it carefully.

White hair? The same phenomenon of melting snow? Did Arielle have some connection with the man his grandfather helped escape?

"Arielle," Ronan called, which caused Arielle to put her book back down.

"Yes, Your Majesty?" said Arielle softly.

"Do you know who your mother is at all?"

Arielle was quite surprised by the question Ronan suddenly asked. Her mother?

"No, Your Majesty. I don’t know anything about my mother," Arielle replied sadly.

"Haven’t you heard any stories about your mother from your father?"

Arielle shook her head. "As far as I know, Mother never touched her feet in the Palace at all. I was born outside the palace, and after I was born, my father took me to the palace. So I don’t know anything about my mother."

"Didn’t you ever try to ask?"

Again Arielle just shook her head. She didn’t have much opportunity to talk to King Hugo. She also couldn’t possibly ask her siblings about it. They would answer that she was the daughter of a witch if Arielle asked.

Ronan thought for a moment. It indeed looked like Arielle didn’t have any idea about her origins at all. It seemed that Ronan had to investigate who the girl’s mother was and why King Hugo had abandoned her like that.

Moreover, King Hugo’s attitude of not paying attention to Arielle was hard to understand. If he didn’t intend to take care of the girl, why did the man bring baby Arielle into the palace?

Ronan raised his hand to touch Arielle’s cheek.

"Sorry for asking something that makes you uncomfortable," he said, and Arielle nodded.

Ronan took his grandfather’s second journal to start reading. Riel jumped on top of him, the man brought the rabbit close to his face and allowed the rabbit to snuggle his furry body against the king’s face.

"The rabbit looks very fond of you, Your Majesty," said Arielle, who smiled as she observed the closeness of the two.

"Hm-hm, it reminds me of you. White, small, and adorable," Ronan replied.

It made Arielle blush again."You equate me with a rabbit?"

"Don’t you remember that you’ve compared me to a cat? What was his name? Thomas, right?" asked Ronan back.

"B-but, I don’t mean to equate you to a cat. You just remind me a little of Thomas’ attitude," Arielle replied nervously.

"Doesn’t that sound the same? This bunny reminds me of you too," Ronan replied. "So cute."

The king continued to tease Arielle until the girl was speechless. The time they both had, unfortunately, had to be interrupted by the presence of William, who came into the library with heavy pants.

"I’ve been looking for you everywhere, and here you are," said William with bated breath.

Ronan was not interested in William’s presence. He still laid on Arielle’s lap and continued to play with Riel on top of him.

"The Royal Nieverdell Carriage was seen crossing the border. Reports from the guards said that Prince Alexis and Princess Andrea came to visit Princess Arielle."
