Mage Legend-Chapter 374: Travel and Travel Beyond - Two Funeral_3
Chapter 374: Travel and Travel Beyond Chapter Two Funeral_3
The house in front must be at least thirty years old. Its fully wooden structure had begun to warp under years of wind and sun exposure. The door frame and window frame looked crooked and skewed, as the wind blew, the loose door panels swung, making a "bang bang" sound, making people feel like it could fall off at any moment.
"There’s someone over there." Soka landed beside them, pointing her little finger towards the west of the town: "I see many people gathered there, I don’t know what they’re doing."
Lynch grabbed Zilvra and headed westward, as if a blazing fire was ignited behind him, urging him forward.
The villagers were huddled together at the west of the town, with fully armed knights at the center. Their armor was polished like mirrors, and pennants hung on the lances in their hands. Everyone was silent, with only a person in a wide priest robe standing in the middle speaking.
He was a Priest of Pate, wearing a white, long robe that trailed to the floor. Silver thread decorations embellished from the cuffs all the way to the neckline and feet, dotted with golden circles. The top of his tall, round hat was marked with a sun emblem.
"Today, we are here to commemorate a warrior. He was not a Priest of the Holy Pate, nor a glorious Paladin, he wasn’t even a believer in the Light God. But everything he did will be remembered by us."
"As a Priest of the Holy Pate, I, too, initially doubted whether such a funeral truly had meaning, whether performing such a ceremony for a soul that did not belong to the Light God was truly a waste of time. After all, there are too many children still living under the shadow of war, and they need saving more. But from friends, from other priests, I learned everything this soul did in life, and those doubts dissipated. Now, I’m here, filled with confidence, because I know, this is undoubtedly the will of the Light God."
"We are currently enduring a difficult time. The enemy wishes to tarnish Pate’s glory; they want our idols toppled, so we can no longer pray aloud. It all began six months ago in Moon Port, where the enemy’s plots and iron hoofs triumphed for the first time, successfully insulting our invincible Northern Fortress. We face that defeat, we do not shy away from mentioning that humiliation because we firmly believe that victory will eventually return to our side."
"In Moon Harbor City, countless brave warriors sacrificed their lives. Their hot blood was shed on that scorched land. Every inch of the broken ruins records their struggle. Though they were defeated, in their hearts, they were never truly defeated. Through their actions, they told us that our people of Pate have honorable and proud spirits!"
"Among these souls, one is very special. He was not born in the land blessed by the Sun God, but in this little town of Haisas. Heavens, how much I wish to bless this child’s birth instead of recounting his deeds at his funeral. Lynch Von Dutchland, that is his name in the Mage Association, a glorious name. As a young man, he left his hometown and appeared on the battlefield defending Moon Harbor City. Citizens, knights, what a distant journey that was!"
"Mage, this title might make you scoff, a group that once caused disasters. Their heart in pursuit of power made them stop believing in the love of the gods. But what I want to say is, among these people, there was still such a person, and he still had faith. Although that faith was not in Pate, he believed that justice and goodness always exist. This is essentially no different from our teachings of Pate. In every battle against the invaders, he appeared on the front lines. Every warrior in Moon Harbor City knew there was a mage standing by their side!"
"He exerted all his power to fight alongside us, burning his young life on that land which did not belong to him, bleeding for our sacred Pate people. Pate bless! What kind of spirit is this? Only the most reverent knights can achieve this!
"As I said before, through the enemy’s schemes, the defense of Moon Harbor City eventually failed. Even when the situation was determined, he continued to fight. The traitor who betrayed us hid in a sturdy castle, thinking he could escape punishment and judgment! But our mage friend, our friend from Haisas, he would not let such a murderer go unpunished."
"In the dazzling explosion, the sound echoed to the clouds. The Lynch we speak of, Mage Lynch dedicated his all there. He used his life to make up for our mistakes, allowing our knights not to worry about the hidden hands from behind in future battles, and to charge forward more valiantly!"
"Today, we stand here, to commemorate this friend who came to help us, a noble soul, and we feel no shame! Because Moon Harbor City has returned to the hands of the holy Pate people! Our brave knights have proven their glory! We will ultimately achieve victory! The glory of the Light God Pate will always shine on us. Today we stand here, able to hold our heads high, facing this friend who sacrificed his life."
"The nationality of Haisas cannot hinder us from commemorating him, the title of mage does not prevent us from praising him, the distance of thousands of hills and roads cannot prevent us from coming here to mourn him! Let us pray in our own way, may his soul gain eternal peace, may Pate accept this just and kind soul."
The priest spoke with emotion above. His resonant and rhythmical voice echoed in the sky above the cemetery. The knights stood straight, without a hint of wavering. However, there was little reaction from the townspeople at the funeral, except for one woman; there were no sounds of weeping.
Lynch rushed over from afar and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw all the residents without any unexpected events. He couldn’t hear clearly what the Pate Priest was saying, so he grabbed a villager’s clothes and quietly asked: "What’s going on here?"
"Can’t you see a funeral is being held?" the villager quietly replied to Lynch, "Keep quiet, it’s rare to see a Priest of the Holy Pate."
Lynch oh’d and obediently stood at the outermost part of the crowd. His companions rushed over and gathered around him.
The funeral continued, with the protracted eulogy going on endlessly. However, the more the mage listened, the more he felt something was wrong; it seemed they were holding a mourning ceremony for someone with the same name as his. He looked towards the center of the venue, and his mother, covered in a black veil, was sitting on the ground crying, with Wislin and Morgan by her side.
"Let us commemorate the mage from Haisas, let us remember his name!" With the priest’s gesture, the Holy Temple Knights beside him raised their lances, saluting towards the sky, which is the highest etiquette to commemorate a friend of the Holy Pate.
The woman could no longer bear it upon seeing this scene and fainted.
"Mom!" Lynch shouted loudly, causing the strong airflow to scatter the crowd blocking in front of him at once. The mage ignored the people swaying around and shrugged off Zilvra, leaping straight over their heads.
The Pate priest took two steps back in a panic, very dissatisfied with the young man who disrupted the funeral. To rush indiscriminately in such a sacred ceremony, it was simply blasphemy! Spiritual light appeared in his hand, and he began chanting a spell.
Deluo, seeing the movements of the Pate priest, smiled and pulled out the Double-headed Sword from his back, looking at the two rows of Holy Temple Knights and licking his lips, "Now it’s getting interesting!"
