Chapter 287: Broken Hearts Were All They Had [1]

[KAIA]

"She was running towards the gates, muttering things that were incoherent. Anyway, Raqeeb managed to get her to stop, and then the whole blast happened," Kylian explained, the reasoning not making him feel any better.

This was not what he had signed up for when he said he would sign up for the warrior position in Incayon.

Everything had been destroyed.

Everything they had worked so hard to build for Rania during the day had been reduced to shambles. There wasn’t a pretty sight; it was like destruction happened here and Jahiro got his jaw clenching in anger.

This wasn’t what he wished for and as the realization of his beloved came at him again, he felt like he needed to probably switch off again, but would he be able to do that when his beloved would need him?

Sighing, Jahiro waited to see what was next for everyone here. He had to try and be patient because he knew that there were different ways that this could go and none of them was the peaceful one.

He just had to be the sensible one but goodness, that seemed to be harder than he had anticipated. Perhaps there was going to be a way for him to work this out, right?

"Is everyone okay?" Dalrae asked as she looked around. The warriors were still trying to come to terms with their situation, but at least they were okay, thankfully, there were no casualties.

However, Dalrae couldn’t help but think that once again, the woman they all wanted dead had turned everything, but had she really? She had fucked them over and she was probably going to get away with it, thanks to her powers, but was she right to think that?

While they were thinking of the different ways they could butcher Yanna, she was still equally shocked in the dungeons as she heard the blast. She had never expected such a thing too, but with the warlocks and hybrids in one place, the worst was expected anyway.

But then this wasn’t even about the hybrids or anyone else. This was about Kim Rania, and her friends didn’t even know that yet. Perhaps they would change their minds right after, right?

Well, Jahiro wasn’t exactly being subtle as he gazed at the woman who seemed to have taken a dip in the fucking gutters anyway. He was still trying to wrap his head around the possibilities that stared at him and he was still confused.

"Yeah... but where is Rani?" Paloma asked just as the body that was lazing on the ground and the little valley that the blast had resulted in suddenly lit up and began burning, the light from the fire finally making it known who was the reason behind the chaos of the night.

The fire was so sudden that everyone instantly moved back.

Jahiro was already thinking of how pointless the drama was getting and he wanted to go back to bed. But he also wanted to watch how things unfolded. Of course, he had a feeling that this wouldn’t end well for him, but who was counting, right?

Besides, it wasn’t like the world would pause just because Jahiro had a beloved, no?

"What?" Kylian and the warriors asked in shock as the fire introduced them to a reality that creeped the hell out of them.

It was a reality that they wished was not true and yet as the fire blazed, as everything around Rania showed her body and everything burning, they couldn’t believe how fast things had gotten and how times had changed.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

It wasn’t supposed to be hard, but life was once again fucking them really hard and there wasn’t a thing they could do about it.

Rania on fire was more than just a reality check to her friends who had been waiting and hoping to see Yanna Petrova. There was disappointment and ultimate betrayal written on their faces as they saw their friend go up in flames.

The ashes were already forming and the sky was getting darker, a little too darker than it had ever been. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

It was like the universe was mourning the girl who had gone through so much and still managed to find herself at the center of a life in so much pain. It was crazy and they wished there was more they could do.

It took more than a few moments for them to snap out of it and realize that the fire wasn’t because of Yanna but because of Kim Rania. Rania’s face was battered and bruised, not to mention the fact that her body was on fire.

The realization hit them so hard it was like a gut punch and they knew they were fucked.

Raqeeb and the warriors who had made it back to the place where the fire was, looked pale.

Of all the things he had expected he would ever do, being the one who murdered Kim Rania hasn’t exactly been what he had been planning. It was not even on his bucket list or whatever lists there were in their lives.

It was almost like they had summoned hell and the devil in one setting. Oh, but this would be harder to explain than anything I had ever encountered.

"Put the damn fucking fire out!" Jahiro said as he cast a spell to stop the fire. He was getting angrier at the hopelessness of the situation. He could ask the questions later but right now, it was more important to make sure the fire was out than to stand there like trophy cases.

Chang Wook hadn’t said a word from the moment he had reached there he had sensed his sister and the shock he was in had made him unable to react.

His little sister was going up in flames and for the first time in so long, Chang Wook wished that this was just because of her transitioning and embracing her powers.

Her twenty-fifth birthday was the one time that all of Rania’s abilities would be unlocked and she would be whole again, just like his abilities had been unlocked on his twenty-fifth birthday. Granted, his twenty-fifth hadn’t been this drastic, but goodness, a man could hope, right?

However, what he was seeing didn’t make him feel any hope. His little sister was up in flames and all he could do was just stand there and watch.

This shit wasn’t voluntary; it was like his body had a mind of its own and if Han hadn’t nudged him and brought him back to the current state, he would have stayed trapped in his mind, blaming himself for being the worst older brother that the world had ever seen.

It didn’t make him feel better and it sure as hell didn’t get comforting for him.

This was his version of hell.

The warrior healer’s hell.

"Snap out of it. Let’s try and put it out!" Han said to his friend who was slowly facing the truth.

Chang Wook and Han were also desperately trying to fix the situation but the longer they tried to make it better, the worse it got.

It was like the fire was fueling the magic and that shit was strange.

But Jahiro wasn’t about to give up.

He wasn’t about to let his friend go like that, but was that all Rania was to him? A dear friend that he refused to lose? Or was there more that he wasn’t willing to admit to anyone?

He wasn’t ready to let her suffer on her own and it hurt him.

"No!!!" Jahiro shouted in anger and prue agony as he tried to make things right. But even he had a feeling that nothing would ever be the same again. None of this would ever be what he knew and he hated it.

More than anything, his heart was crying out like he had never felt before.

For a ruthless uncultured whose humanity was supposed to be off, Jahiro seemed to forget to pretend about his humanity switch flipping on again because he was literally crying out in pain, shouting for anyone who would listen to come and help them fix this.

The desperation in his voice was so intense that even the moon that had been shining suddenly disappeared and the skies got dark in an instant.

The winds suddenly blew and the night that had been a little warmer, and had grown so cold that it was near-impossible for them to be here any longer.

"Haru... My magic, it’s useless against this. I can’t even put out the fire."
