Chapter 291: A Strike So Undetermined

[RANIA]

"This bitch," Rania said angrily before she grabbed her mother towards her and wrung her neck, making sure to break it without thinking twice. It came so naturally for her that for a moment, Rania wondered if she had finally become the psycho that people ran from.

It wasn’t clear why she had done that to her mother, but goddamn, there was only one thing that could confirm that a man had lost his mate. And it was the loud howl of Alpha Kim in the distance.

"What just happened?" Dalrae asked as she looked at her sister who was retracting her claws from her mother, the former Luna’s chest like it was easily the best thing that she had done.

The smug look on Kim Rania’s face as her mother’s lifeless body fell to the ground was something that they all would never be able to forget for a while. She looked like she had finally gotten her fill and that she had finally gotten the justice he had long been seeking.

Well, if this was about her promise to her father, the promise to make him feel what it felt like to be alone and without a mate, then Kim Rania sure did know how to keep her promises.

There was no doubt that she had wanted to do this since the time she knew that her father was betraying her with the mate she had wanted but couldn’t get.

It hurt, for a moment, probably because Rania had loved her mother even if the woman had been nothing but a bitch to her.

But well, she couldn’t exactly choose who she was born of, right? but she sure as hell could choose what to do with them if they broke her heart one too many times. But even then, was taking her mother’s life the only way out of this for her? Was it the only thing that could give Rani the peace she was seeking?

"Rani?" Dalrae asked as she walked towards her sister.

"She’ll kill you too."

"Don’t go, let us figure out what is happening first."

"Don’t sacrifice yourself to her."

"You might be hurt, Dalrae. She is in her most dangerous state yet."

Their friends tried to stop her, seeing what Rania had done to her own mother, but Lim Dalrae knew there wasn’t anything to be scared of. This was her sister, the girl with whom she had sworn to be loyal.

Nothing would ever separate them because they had bound themselves by a blood oath. It was an oath that they had come up with to protect themselves. It was one that they had worked out so that if ever the world was against them, they would still have each other.

It was a binding one and Dalrae didn’t care what could occur right now.

She was not going to abandon her sister.

She was never going to leave Rani’s side, ever.

As everyone stood there worried for Lim Dalrae, even though they knew there was a chance that she wouldn’t exactly be hurt, there was a last voice, one that spoke a word so unexpected in the night.

"Mate."

The fact that the owner of the voice was the most unexpected one made the whole scenario even more confusing. But then was there a perfect time to get a mate? The Obren rules never demanded that wolves only get their mates at mating festivals anyway, right?

If anything the Obren system acknowledged any and all mates, irrespective of when they found each other. They believed that the goddess never made mistakes. But could Rani say the same for her mate situation with Park Jihoon of the now-fallen Calindra?

"What?" Han was the first to react, momentarily shifting his focus from Rania who Dalrae had gone to, to the person who had spoken the words so forbidden in the moment, and yet they were the worlds that seemed so comforting to someone, anyone, or whoever the fuck was mated to them.

But was that supposed to be comforting or scary the other times?

What were they not doing now?

"Mate," the voice sounded again, and given the tone the person used was possessive, proving just how insane the situation was. But maybe, just maybe, this was the beginning of the end, right?

Maybe, the world would stop spinning right and make do with whatever the fuck had re-developed, no?

"Hiro?" Han spelled out slowly and carefully, as he looked at his brother who was focused on something else, or rather, someone else.

He was shocked that his brother had been the one to spell that word, seeing as he and his brother had never really had the opportunity to be bonded to anyone.

Maybe they had mates somewhere in the world, but they had been through so much pain that over the years, the brothers had locked themselves and their hearts so that they wouldn’t make way for anyone who could love them.

They didn’t know if anyone would ever love beasts like them and to avoid rejections they had promised not to look for mates.

Well, Jahiro and his brother had kept that promise, because Jahiro Seto hadn’t exactly gone out there to hunt for a mate anyway. If anything the moment had just happened.

Everything had just popped up and with Jahiro’s humanity back on, perhaps it was because of the mate he seemed to have found. That was good news, right?

"He got a mate?"

"You people can have mates too?"

"Well, talk of a shocking night."

"Where is your mate?"

"Who is he or she?"

"Is he a warrior hybrid?"

"Is she a regular wolf?"

"Our friends all have mates, so it’s gotta be the wolves of Incayon or the hybrids."

"Oh, damn, Jahiro getting a mate is incredible."

As everyone tried to wrap their heads around the sudden reality, Han was watching his brother so carefully. He was checking if that had been a wish for Jahiro, or if it was something that was truly happening.

With Kaisei Seto, there were so many uncertainties, and his brother was right to be worried for him. The younger Seto twin didn’t want Jahiro to be heartbroken because that would unleash a madness that even Han Seong himself would never be able to help with.

It would be destruction upon destruction to the very end, and honestly, that didn’t look good, coming from a man who couldn’t be taken out. It was insane.

"Chihiro, you found a mate?" Han asked again, as he followed his brother’s line of sight, and for a minute, he felt the world come to a standstill in uncertain fury.

His brother was looking at the two ruthless best friends, who were more dangerous than most of the regular wolves.

Han wasn’t sure if he was supposed to be happy that there was a chance that his brother was mated to either Dalrae or Rania. Or maybe it was someone he couldn’t see in the night, right?

But was that really it, or was the fear of the impossible really what they needed right now?

"Mate," Jahiro added with conviction as he looked in the direction of the two sisters, making Han even more confused.

What manner of wild situation was this?

How was he even to make it make sense, especially for his brother who had not known the love of anyone other than his very own brother?

Oh, Jahiro.
