Chapter 302: In Which Love Had Beautiful Memories [6]

[RANIA]

"I don’t know how to thank you for making this a beautiful night. But I will just make you a promise, the promise to protect Incayon with all my life, just like I always have done. Thank you for understanding and letting me, a stray wolf back home.

"I still have much to prove to you, but on my birthday, all I have to say is thank you for bearing with me. Thank you for understanding me. thank you for not kicking me out," Rania said before letting out a chuckle.

"—Even though you pretty much don’t have a choice. And I’m sorry about that. But If I’m being honest, if I had to do that to make sure Incayon was safe, then I would do it again, without a second thought.

"I know many of you have so many questions, as to what has happened the whole time. I know you are curious about how I got humanity’s greatest evil on my side much less, how I got mated to him.

"I can only answer the first, as the second is but a question from the goddess and the deities," Rania added. She looked at her people, and she could see the curiosity in their eyes, even as she gestured for them to take a seat.

It seemed like the long night was her and the final story of peace was finally making its way out of her throat. It wasn’t something that she would have imagined like this, but it was one that she was thankful for.

So much had happened and so much would still happen. But in the middle of all that, Rania was choosing love and truth.

"I met Kaia, on my sixteenth birthday, the very day that I was first rejected, over eight years ago," Rania began and the wolves stared at each other in shock. That was easy nine years ago.

Nine years that they had had no clue that they had subjected their child to a fate worse than death. But perhaps it wasn’t a fate worse than death, right? They had left her to a questionable fate even then, but it seemed like it had all been for the best, but had it really been that?

********

[Incayon, Nine years ago]

The night that had started off beautifully had somehow managed to end up with the birthday for being rejected and accepting her ejection.

She knew that there had to be a reason for all that, but she just wished that it wasn’t on her birthday, she had always looked forward to her sweet sixteen but the words that her mate had spoken to her had broken her in so many ways.

She wasn’t good at showing emotions, but her sister had been quick to tell that something had been wrong with her. So when Dalrae suggested that they go for a run, Rania hadn’t objected to that.

Because there was only one other option that night; Dalrae would have to dig an extra garage and that wasn’t what Rania wanted for her best friend.

Sure, they were psychotic in so many ways, but that didn’t mean that she would ruin the day for the other mates who had found their partners. Some had been rejected like her, but she wasn’t seeing them whining about what was good for them and what wasn’t.

It was just a matter of common decency and Rania knew that she was still the alpha no matter what. She had to be ready and make sure that the pack went on well, even if her heart had been shattered one too many times.

She didn’t have a way out anyway, so the run had been it for her.

"I’ll go get some air," Rania said once they had come back for the run with Dalrae.

They had gone for a run for an hour and frankly, Dalrae felt like her joints were about to fall off. She was so tired, but she was also worried about her sister. It wasn’t daily that they got to this point.

It wasn’t what they were used to, but the world was not ready for that discussion just yet.

"Are you sure about that?" Dalrae asked, the worry so clear in her voice.

She knew that it wasn’t going to be easy for Raia to get through this, but Dalrae was so certain that she needed space to think about it. So she wasn’t going to press as much, even though she was worried sick for her sister.

"Yeah. I have to or you will have to dig three hundred graves, and that is a lot for one person," Rania said coldly and absentmindedly.

Her heart hurt a lot and she hated it.

"Rani—" Dalrae began but Rania stopped her.

Rania knew that Dalrae was willing to do whatever she wanted and frankly, that had to be the craziest part of their loyalty to each other. It was like the world was just a shell on its own and they were living in it just because they had to.

Life was never fair, but when they were together, they didn’t care what was fair or not. They would get through all that shit together.

"I know. If I need you, I’ll call you. Always. Now go, have some fun. You might even find a mate there," Rania said, though she had a feeling that Dalrae wasn’t in the mood to look for a mate today.

It was pretty obvious, given how theta had grown up together.

They’re like two peas in a pod and maybe that was also why many had assured that if they weren’t sisters, they could have ended up being mates. But wasn’t that so bad?

If anything, they may have been crazy, but at least Dalrae was the clam to Rani’s storms. She knew how to balance with her sister so well it was admirable.

"Fine. Don’t hurt yourself, or I’ll kill you," Dalrae reminded and Rania just smiled sadly at her.

Of course, that was how Dalrae showed that he cared for Rania, but it pretty much is one of the many things that made them a unique set of best friends who had turned into sisters for life.

"Yes, Your Highness," She teased as she watched Dalrae walk back into the assembly hall where the celebrations were.

She could only hope that everything would be alright with Rania.

Perhaps this was the night of a new beginning, but what kind of new beginning would it be for them in such cases? Nothing would ever be better if Rania snapped, at least that much Dalrae knew. But would Rania snap? 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

"Fucking hell, this shit hurts," Rania sighed defeatedly as she kicked the nearby stone harshly. She wanted to let it all out, to cry, but she couldn’t. She hadn’t cried in a long time and she didn’t know how to even start.

It was crazy what she had been reduced to and she hated it with all of her. Everything seemed to be against her. Her whole world was slowly shattering, and no one had even come to her rescue. Maybe she wasn’t as important, yeah?

"Maybe I should just disappear, right?" Rania asked no one in particular as she wiped away the tears that were threatening to spill. She couldn’t do this.
