Chapter 303: His Love, Her Light [1]

[RANIA]

Sitting in the dark, Rania was suddenly consumed with her thoughts of disappearing. She had never once imagined that she would ever want to run away from home, but the circumstances that he had been forced to deal with were dire.

He knew that the following day would not be kind to her and she knew everyone already had an inkling that she had been rejected. It didn’t make it any better that her nemesis Jihoon was yet to get mated.

So there was just no way that she would win one over Park Jihoon in any universe.

"Maybe I should just disappear, right?" Rania asked no one in particular as she wiped away the tears that were threatening to spill. She couldn’t do this, not on her own or even with Dalrae. Everything was just suffocating her and she wanted an escape.

"It never works out in the end," a voice interrupted her. She wasn’t sure what she had been expecting but someone out there listening to her thoughts of disappearing wasn’t exactly what she had been counting on.

It felt like an invasion of her privacy, and yet at the same time, she felt like she couldn’t even complain because Incayon was a free land.

Then again he doesn’t feel comfortable with someone around her. But perhaps it was alright because they were in the dark and she had her werewolf sight, right? If anything, it wasn’t like the person would ever bother to be a kid to her when morning came right?

"I figured as much. Why are you out here anyway? Shouldn’t you be in there getting a mate or something?" Rania asked and the man let out a light chuckle like that was the silliest thing he had ever heard, and yet as he looked at her, and her stature, there was a sense of sincerity in her voice too.

What could such a beauty be doing out here alone, yeah?

"They’re too happy there. And I know I can never have one, so I figured I’d come out here and try to sort my thoughts out," the man said and Rania sensed some tomfoolery in his voice.

She may have been young, but she knew when someone was trying to get to her using lies. But then she decided to keep the conversation going in the hope that she would get to know who this person was and what he wanted there.

Because there was no ounce of sincerity in his voice either way.

"Ah, tell me about it. I have just been rejected and I feel like tomorrow is really going to be a long day for me. Do you know a few escape routes out of Icayon?

"Judging by the rich woody scent on you, I assume you might know a way or two," Rania said nonchalantly like she was done trying to find ways of hiding. However this stranger was, he wasn’t an Incayon wolf and she didn’t want him next to her people.

She knew that she was taking a leap of faith and taking great risks with him, but what else could she do?

Rejected or not, she was always going to be the reigning alpha of Incayon, and her first duty was to ensure that her people, however ungrateful they were, would be well protected. It didn’t matter what she had to do to make that happen.

It was her responsibility as she wouldn’t dare turn her back on that.

"You are quick-witted for a young person like you. Anyway, I know a few just like you said. Wanna tag along?"

"Of course, shall we?" Rania said and he looked at her like she was something else. Of course, she was.

She was Kim Rania, the psycho loved by her people, and yet hated with the same intensity. She was everything people wanted to be and people wanted to run. So it wasn’t hard for her to hop on the hopeless bandwagon and get to her destination.

Maybe this was the last time Incayon saw her, and she didn’t exactly mind that because it would save her the embarrassment of feeling rejected. Goodness, it affected her so much that she wanted to truly disappear.

"What’s your name? I figured if we’re going to be using the same pathways out of Incayon we might as well know each other, right?"

"Sure. I’m Rania, but many call me the psycho of Incayon," Rania said honestly, extending her hand to the man, and instead of shaking her hand, he just looked at her like she was nuts, before he kept on walking, ignoring the hand that had been out for him to shake.

So Rania assumed that he wasn’t the kid to shake strangers’ hands.

"Ah, I can see why. No one in their right mind would follow a stranger who they already know isn’t for their act through the woods and in the hope for a shortcut that probably doesn’t exist.

"A little too many loose screws in your head, aye?" the man said with a laugh and Rania joined in like it was the best thing she had heard all night, even though she had just been called stupid and crazy in the politest of ways.

But that didn’t matter to her anyway.

"You don’t say. Anyway, what’s your name?" Rania asked, even though I had a feeling that’s why I wouldn’t like the answer she would be getting.

Perhaps the worse the answer, the more her dream of running away from her homeland and leaving this all behind would eventually come true, right? After all, isn’t she the girl who always had so many wishes but whose wishes mostly failed to come true anyway?

Then again, was that something she needed to think about right this moment?

"You sure you want to know that?"

Instead of Rania being anxious and worried about herself, she seemed to be happier, way too happy that this had happened to her. Perhaps she had really gotten to the point of losing her mind.

"Of course. Besides, the worst you can do is leave me alive anyway," Rania said and the man paid, clearly not expecting the answer he had gotten.

Surely, he had heard the rumors of the Incayon heiress being a complete nutjob at times but damn, this wasn’t what he had expected. This was beyond the rumors and it was interesting that he stopped to look at her.

"Which way again?" Rania asked when she noticed that the stranger had stopped walking.

"Don’t tell me you’re having second thoughts," Rania added as if to instigate the stinger that was so huge and bulky with so many exhaled scars on him.

He looked like he had been to a hundred wars and had worked on all of them. And given how long his hair was even in the damn bun, she knew he had to have gone to a thousand or more wars. But why was that very comforting to Rania?

"Kaia Seto. That’s my name," Kaia said with a curious brow.

"I’ll call you Kai if you don’t mind," Rania said and Kaia just facepalmed. That was when he knew that he wouldn’t ever be able to harm the girl in front of him.

If anything, there was this urge to be with her and learn what was going on in her mind, because she was definitely a perfect match for him.
