Chapter 317: When Worlds Collide

[OBREN]

"Wow, this wasn’t what I was expecting," Bai Ting said when they reached the camp.

It was a pitreal war camp and the stench of anger and disdain was more than obvious. The warriors looked like they were from different regions, and they seemed to believe that they were fighting for something just and perhaps they truly were.

Some of the warriors were sparring while others were drowning themselves in beer.

They looked like they were hoping that the day would get better when they knew so damn well that the opponent they were after wasn’t just any opponent but the woman who could bring down their whole realm.

It was a crazy idea, but Nate couldn’t help but agree, that this was easily the bravest lot of people he had ever encountered.

Even with the danger that was looming over their heads, they were still here, trying to find a way to get everything back in order. There was no doubt they were aware of the cruel consequences of their brevity, and yet even then they bucked up and showed up for the fight.

"We should go meet them," Nate said and his brother just stepped aside as if to tell him that this was his forte.

Nate always knew how to deal with people while Bai was his warrior, the one who always fought the battles. Granted, they were both leaders but just like every family, they were a unit that spent most of their time perfecting each other’s skills.

Right now, it was Nate’s that could help them out here and if it didn’t work and there was a need to go for the defense, then Bai would be the one to do that for them. It wasn’t much but it was a given for both brothers.

"They are on high alert though they are pretending like they haven’t even seen us," Nate commented, making Bai ting take a second look at the people at the camp.

He could see that those who had been drinking beer were just playing with the drinks, and not really drinking them. The woman who had taken up arms seemed to be gossiping, but they were on high alert and ready to fight their wars.

Those that were sparring were ready for war, and had weapons tucked under their belts. It was something they had learned to do and while it was a harsh reality, this was what had become of Obren.

From a kingdom that was revered by people to one that people were scared shitless of even getting into. And they had Kim Rania to thank for that. Perhaps they would find their way around eventually, right?

Besides, it wasn’t like they were supposed to make anything out of this. This was a voluntary mission, one that could go sideways so fast.

Maybe there was a way out, right?

"That is what’s good for them. They have clearly gone through enough with Rania and her goons," Baia said and his brother just nodded as they waited for the response from the warriors who had been there.

Soon enough, they were surrounded by warriors who didn’t look like they wanted to smile or even make merry with their new intruders.

What was even more interesting was the fact that the other errors were still in the same state they had been in and that got Nate wondering how many warriors had volunteered to come to the damned mission to deal with Kim Rania.

They had to have despised that woman so much for them to be this angry and riled up. But hey, the kingdom did have a King, and the vampires housing up here wasn’t exactly what they could consider pleasing at all, especially for two races that had been at war since time immemorial.

"You both look pretty hiding under the scents of wolves and their clothing. Makes me wonder if you managed to fool others or they were too busy running away from Rania to even bother with the both of you," Boksoon, Luna Park’s enforcer said.

Her voice was so cold and she sounded disgusted as she stared at the vampires who had come to their camp. This was a suicide mission and yet for some reason, the vampires had still insisted on taking the long road here.

Either they were unhinged or this had to be the craziest bunch that they had ever had to deal with. There was no telling what the hell would be happening with them but one thing was certain, this wouldn’t end well for both parties.

"Well, they didn’t bother to look harder. Perhaps they just didn’t care about anything we did.

"Can’t blame them for running, after everything that the kingdom has gone through, right?" Nate said, his tone neutral like he didn’t want to give away why they were always here, and yet at the same time, he was trying to tell Boksoon that they weren’t here for war.

Well, they were but just not with this battalion and the revolting warriors.

It was a leap of faith for both parties but it was the one thing they needed to come to terms with because, at the end of the day, they all had people to answer to.

"What do you want here?" Boksoon asked coldly, and Nate watched her carefully. He could see that she was a well-trained warrior and she looked like she was about to sever his head from his neck; if she couldn’t get to his heart fast enough.

He didn’t blame her for being tempted to do that though, because this isn’t their normal kind of interaction.

Their words had collided and no matter what they wanted to do about it, there was no denying that their lives had changed drastically because of a few hundred people, or maybe because of a bunch of misfits who were having the time of their lives back home.

"The same thing that you all want," Nate said and Boksoon looked at the vampire king to tell him that this wasn’t really the best time for him to be trying to play games with her.

She was certainly not in the mood for that shit and if this king wasn’t careful, she would thrust a wooden stake in his heart, and watch him die as easily.

Then again, hybrids always had a beating heart, so the only one who could truly be affected by the take was Bai Ting. Well, that was an option that Boksoon wasn’t worried about exploiting.

She was mad and pissed with the whole situation and these could be a few interesting kills for her, right?

"And what would that be, that got you out of the safety of your royal palace, the same place you got your ass high up and one that got you always feeling superior, huh?" Boksoon asked, and Bai Ting let out a chuckle.

He had never heard anyone talk to his brother like that, and he couldn’t be blamed really. Usually, it was his brother threatening people’s lives.

Nate was always the menace, but right now, the big bad vampire king had found someone who wasn’t ready to buy his bullshit and one who was equally as threatening.

"To put an end to Kim Rania’s madness," the vampire king said and Boksoon snorted in response. This king was something else, but even then would she let him in?
