Chapter 362: A Brother’s Road To Humanity

[RANIA]

"Because we had a war and they would have been distracted then," Chang Wook said, making Oshita look at him like something was definitely amiss.

There was no way that the two most powerful mates could have been distractions to each other when they were meant to protect each other for their whole lives.

They had missions to deal with and things to attend to and the best way for them to do that would be at their full strength, which the both of them hadn’t been in, no matter what they had done in the past few weeks and months.

"What does that even mean? I knew they were mates for the first time she invited him over. That was about six months ago. Surely the lycans only need two months to finalize their bind and get used to each other.

"The past four months should have been their best target either way,’’ Oshita said, like he couldn’t believe what was happening.

However, the shock on the faces of the misfits was the instant reminder that things hadn’t exactly gone as he had stated. But then if that was so, then what the hell had gone wrong in the past months?

What had gone so wrong that they had been unable to consummate?

"What do you mean you knew they were mates when he first came home?" Chang Wook asked and Oshita just sighed.

He couldn’t believe that he had been the only one who had seen what Kaia had transformed into when they had first met him at the Incayon gates. There were a lot of things that he changed and maybe they needed to take some time because there was no understanding of this.

"Exactly just that. Kaia Seto never gets summoned, not unless he hears his brother is in trouble, everyone knew that by then. But when he came to answer Rania’s call, none of us even knew Han Seong was his brother, much less that he was coming.

"Kaia himself was shocked to see his brother in Incayon, which meant that he had no clue where his twin had been at all that time. He had come eating a damn bunny, of all the things he could have eaten.

"Normally Kaia never knocked. He never asked questions, he always went to a place, wreaked havoc, then disappeared after bringing the place down. But then when he came to Incayon, he didn’t cause chaos, as usual.

"Everyone panicked, yet he never threatened them, demanded the impossible, nor did he turn Incayon into a mass grave. He waited, until Rani came down. We all saw how he had changed and even his habits.

"Don’t tell me you guys are the smartest people to ever exist and still couldn’t even comprehend that," Oshita said as she stared at the misfits who were seated calmly around him.

He was glad he was back and was happy that things were right, but he hadn’t truly expected that this would have happened like this.

If anything, he had been expecting that the war had long been won and the fact that they were home, meant that there wouldn’t be a war.

But then life didn’t always come with a manual and that was a reality that they were all easily coming to terms with. Perhaps it would be easier for them to explain at a later time, no?

"Damn, you are really attentive," Kaia said and Han Seong smacked his brother’s head, once again surprising everyone.

The brothers had never bantered easily before them and right now it seemed like Oshita was the bubble of happiness that they needed to unlock all that they had in mind and the long list of impossible things that they wanted to explore.

Perhaps it would do them more good at a later time, yeah?

"Oww, Haru," Kaia whined and his brother just rolled his eyes at his barbarian twin.

"I told you but you didn’t listen," Han Seong said and Kaia stared at him like this wasn’t fair, something that still surprised the misfits even more.

Apparently, the Seto siblings were just like every other sibling out there. Their bond wasn’t just one that showed when they were at war or protecting each other and frankly, that was a relief for them.

It reminded them that they were opening to each other and they were embracing the bonds that bind them and accepting their realities.

"You knew?" Odelia asked and Han Seong shrugged.

"I have known both of them best. My brother is a prick, who wouldn’t just go anywhere for anyone that wasn’t me. Just like Oshita said, Hiro didn’t know where I was, so there was nothing that could have brought him to Incayon.

"Unless he had chosen a beloved and was gambling at the possibility that his beloved wouldn’t want him or his beloved would be a normal person who wouldn’t want him.

"We have both lived with rejection our whole lives, so when Rania summoned him, he came as fast as he could," Han said and the misfits once again stared at the brother like it was the commonest of things.

However, that didn’t answer the one question they all were having. The question of why Kaia hadn’t said a thing at that time.

He had the power to make things go in his favor.

He had the chance to be the hero, to make Rania’s life easier, and to make her understand that she was always going to belong to him, or even that he would forever adore her with all of him. But he hadn’t done that.

He has been calm and waited, occasionally showing his fangs where he felt Rania was threatened. But beyond that, Kaia had remained a sane person trying to live through his days in Incayon, the one paradox that many were still baffled by.

"You didn’t say anything?" Rania asked amusedly. She didn’t have the strength to even be mad because that wasn’t going to be fair.

Mate bonds were sacred and so much could happen.

Rania knew her friends and she knew they would do whatever it took to make things better for her. She didn’t want to be unthankful this time and frankly, she was just glad that they were all back here, as a team.

"No, I couldn’t. My brother was clearly smitten with you, and I wanted him to discover that on his own, though he was still too dumb to ever understand emotions when it came to everyone who isn’t me.

"It was more of a task for him to discover and decide for himself if he wanted to go through with it or let Jihoon keep on being your mate. I also couldn’t interfere, because of the fates. I am just a high warlock, and I can’t tamper with life bonds so uncertain.

"That was something that Hiro had to do on his own. It would give him insights on whether he wanted to stay for you, or if he would leave after what you wanted him for here would be done.

"I was honestly shocked when he accepted the mate bond. The brother I knew wouldn’t have raised a finger to embrace anyone who wasn’t me, and I am so very proud of him. So yeah," Han Seong said and they all just looked at him with awe.

"You understand your brother best, wow," Oshita said, almost forgetting that he was here to demand answers. But what good would the answers do?
