Chapter 14: Chapter 14

Aria POV

It finally felt like everything was falling into the right places. My lips on his, our spark growing even more, the intensity in our breath as we clenched to each other tightly.

But then everything came back to me. I realized the mistake I was making and instantly, without thinking twice, I pushed him away as he staggered backward, almost falling.

"Why?" he questioned as I stood up, dusting my hands like I had done something of huge achievement.

"Don’t question me, don’t ask me why. You know this is a huge mistake and you are watching me do it. Yes, you might not realize because your so-called mate is pushing you, but I know it is a very, very huge mistake you are making. So please stay away from me. I’m begging you," I said to him as he laughed.

"I can’t stay away from you. You know," he said, trying to come back close to me when I raised my hand.

"I would hit you if you try it," I said, hoping he would at least take my choice. Even though I knew no matter how hard and no matter how much I hit him, it wouldn’t affect him at all.

He scoffed and still walked closer to me, placing his hands on mine as I flinched. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"Don’t make me yell. If I should shout, everyone would gather, and I would lie that you did something worse than you can ever expect. So stay away from me and keep your distance," I said to him angrily as he seemed confused.

"Why? We just kissed now and it changed nothing. Nobody found out about it. It is between the both of us. I don’t know why you are scared. My dad is not here. He can’t do anything where he isn’t," he said to me as I laughed.

"Can you just shut up already, Jaxon? You don’t know when to say the right word or else you would not open your mouth and tell me that your dad is not here. Does it really matter if he’s here or not? I am telling you I don’t want to do anything with you. I don’t want to be with you. I don’t know what is so fucking hard for you to understand in those few words. I don’t want you. I repeat it again. Stay away from me. I only gave you a chance to be close to me because you have no choice. But that does not mean you force it on me. If I don’t want to be around you, I don’t want it. I want my own peace, my own privacy. And I’m sorry for walking away from your... from your ex who you could not get back together with. And now she’s trying to pour all her anger on me," I said, not understanding why I could not hold in my emotions.

I’m not the kind of person who would not be able to hold in little emotions like this as he stood there for a while. I guess he was very much confused.

"Fine, fine, I would stay away from you, but I know you would not forget what just happened. The kiss we just shared now, it would continue to come back to you nonstop, and then you realize that you also feel something for me and whatever connection we have is true and sincere and it cannot be severed no matter what," he said and turned around as he walked away.

He had not even gotten out of the door when it came flashing back to my mind—his lips clashing on mine, how I felt so happy, how I couldn’t help but creep a little smile and wanting it not to end.

I shook my head immediately. "No, he can never be right. Jaxon can never be right," I said to myself like a crazy person as I opened my book again, trying to concentrate but I couldn’t.

All through the day, I could not concentrate up until the school session was over. I stepped out of the building and still saw Vanessa at the corner talking to some group of girls, and just then my gaze fell on Jaxon as he stood in front of his car under the scorching sun, his eyes a bit shut.

Clearly, he was trying to see through the harshness of the sun as I stood there, my hands folded, clearly waiting to watch the drama. I know that he’s waiting for someone; I just don’t know who exactly it is. Maybe it’s another girl that he wants to waste her time and he wants to just use and dump, I thought to myself.

But then his eyes met mine and quickly he smiled. Before I could look away or even escape his presence, he ran toward me and pulled my arm as I looked at him.

"Stop it," I muttered as I could already feel gazes on me.

"Why should I stop? I want to take my sister home. Is that also an offense?" he said while keeping his voice as high as possible.

"I am muttering a word to you and you are shouting. Do you want everybody to know what you are discussing about her?" I said to him as he laughed.

"I really don’t care though. It doesn’t really matter to me. I just want to take you home, or am I not allowed to also take you home too?" he asked as I felt a bit puzzled, noticing that Vanessa was still looking at me so keenly. I couldn’t help but pull my arms away from his grip and enter into the passenger seat as I sat down.

"Drive," I instructed as he laughed.

"Yes, my lady," he mimicked as I looked at him, rolling my eyes.

"Stop that," I instructed as he did not say another word.

But just as he started the car, he pecked me on the cheek, and I almost jumped.

"What risk was he taking in the presence of everybody? How can I escape? Jaxon Grip, I don’t think this would be possible ever."
