Murim's Weakest Princess-Chapter 248: Wonder Child
With the earliest memory being fighting with dogs for food and chasing her family out, the Whimsical Sage proved to be a wonder child. There was literally nothing that she could not learn. Anji soon realised that the reason the Whimsical Sage chased her parents away by acting crazy was that they had denied her education and her request to keep a stray dog.
As a bright and curious child, the whimsical sage loved staying outside the school to listen to the teacher teach the boys. She always had to correct answers, even if she was not an official student. The teacher liked her, but the boys often mocked her for being a girl and unable to take the exams, even if she was smart. That day, she shaved half her head and wore male clothing to prove a point that she could be a boy as well.
However, when a bigger kid told her that boys had a thing in between their legs that made them real boys and that she was fake, she bit his thing off without hesitation. The teacher who previously praised her for her intelligence quickly changed faces and berated her for being an uncultured thing. That incident was the beginning of the Whimsical Sage family’s distancing. She was only three when that happened, and Anji thought it could have easily been written off as a children’s squabble if the Whimsical Sage’s parents had wanted. Yet, they looked at her as if she were a monster and apologised profusely to the boy’s parents, whose wiener had been bitten off. To make matters worse, the Whimsical Sage claimed that she wanted to attach his boy bits onto herself because she made a better boy than he did.
Anji had never heard of such an attachment before. The doctor in her paused for a moment to consider the feasibility, but that was not the reason why she was living as the Whimsical Sage. Naturally, the adults were horrified, and the young prodigy was quickly labelled as a mentally broken defect so they could wrap up the incident and move on.
While the world moved on from it, the fire had been newly lit in the Wonder Child, who was now confined to the four walls of her house. After failing to go to school or become a boy, the bored child genius wondered what else she could do. Her family was so afraid that their daughter might attack others that they purchased many things to occupy her as long as she remained in that room.
For three years, the Whimsical Sage remained in her small world and learned everything from the basic knowledge she received by eavesdropping at the school. Anyone who attempted to understand the four books and five classics would claim that the Whimsical Sage was lying for completing all that in two years without even a tutor. Moreover, the Whimsical Sage also mastered playing the zither and pipa so masterfully with her small hands that many thought her family housed a secretly talented musician.
It wasn’t until her fifth birthday that the Whimsical Sage heard a whimper outside her window while painting the same tree outside her window for fun. For the first time in years, she broke the rules to climb outside her window to check what it was.
It was a puppy that wandered to her family’s residence, looking rather weak and wounded. The Whimsical Sage, like any other child, was the first thing she did was scoop up the pitiful creature and seek an adult to ask for help.
Yet, the first thing they did was to snatch the puppy from her and shove her back into the room as if they had seen a ghost. The puppy never appeared again, and even her windows were locked at all times from the outside so that she would never leave her room.
For a five-year-old, the incident weighed heavily on her mind. Anji had no idea why she was able to experience the dreams of the past that the Whimsical Sage had. Although she did not know how the Whimsical Sage escaped the room and became crazy, she could understand that the insanity was simply another side of the same coin that made her brilliant. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Slowly but surely, the three rules started to make sense. True to her words, the Whimsical Sage started to be more open with her desires. She also snatched every opportunity that came her way. If there was something she wanted but could not afford, she would maximise all the resources available to her, regardless of ethics. People looked at her with disdain and fear for the reputation she bore. Yet, nobody would dare argue with a crazy person’s demand. It was safer to give in and be forgotten than to be the target of a relentless mad person.
Just like this, the Whimsical Sage grew up alone with her dogs and an increasing number of wild adopted strays in the compound. If there was one thing Anji learned after a while, it was just how much the Whimsical Sage adored animals and cute creatures. She loved children, even if they cried whenever they saw her. She was never mean to children, even if she did not give two shits about adults.
Then, on her sixteenth birthday, the Whimsical Sage proved to the world once more why they call her that.
Anji watched as the sea of flames erased the existence of the house that was both the Whimsical Sage’s prison and refuge. Many of the strays and wild animals fled when the fire started, but the few loyal ones who grew a strong attachment to the Whimsical Sage stood by her side and watched as the fire destroyed everything.
With no shelter, only the clothes on her back and two loyal mutts, the Whimsical Sage set off in the direction of the sun and left her hometown for good. The people who saw her leave that day would claim she had the biggest smile they had ever seen. Anji felt her joy of leaving with nothing to her name. There was an excitement that Anji could not relate to. Yet, she continued to observe. Her shifu told her not to judge by the Whimsical Sage’s actions. After all, there was always more than met the eye.
